Man overboard call on Indy this morning

Recommended Posts

7am woke up to Oscar Oscar Oscar over the loud speaker. Supposedly man overboard port side was wearing life jacket floating face down. We were already at the dock in Nassau. Thoughts and prayers for his/her loved ones.  Dunno if it was a passenger on the ship or a dock worker. Anyone else here on the ship have any insight?

Could it have been a crew drill?  We witnessed one like that, while in a port, with a dummy thrown overboard, and all departments responding, with lifeboats, medical staff on standby, etc.

No evidence of anything happening on Nassau webcam.

that would be a best case scenario.

There ought to be a very clear announcements for passengers when there is a drill.  If not immediately (if the idea is to catch crew without notice and have them take it seriously), then right after the drill's conclusion.

They do but many times announcements are after most passengers are ashore

If it is a surprise drill for the crew they will cal Oscar Oscar Oscar port/ starboard side  and then add this is a drill for crew only.  I have experienced a drill where the emergency signal went off without a announcement that it was a drill and saw lots of passengers grabbing life jackets and heading to muster stations

Yes, there are. We were on Wonder in February and they were doing drills. They made several announcements about it.

Just an update. Was on iots this week, during the captains q&a he explained that the call was a genuine call as we were the first ship in port and may have been the ones who made the discovery. It was then made clear that local authorities were dealing with it. As you could imagine this was a topic of conversation for the rest of the trip.
