Bidding/Upgrade Question

I was looking at the cabin options listed for bidding on under our cruise for comparison by looking at the cruise if I was booking it initially. It shows those same options are sold out - has anyone else ran into this? A glitch in the programming that makes you think there are cabins you can bid on, when they are all sold out?

Princess is known to have cabins held back that you cannot see, plus they know last minute cancellations and no shows happen for various reasons.

The 3rd party company that handles the bidding process is also using the data collected to help establish bidding thresholds and what passengers are willing to bid, even if all categories are ‘sold out’. This is part of the ‘process’ and the 3rd party company is doing what most competent bidding processors do.

Twice our bids were accepted for cabin categories that had 'looked' sold out for weeks before.

There are always cabins held out that you cannot see.

AND, remember....since my bid was accepted, that frees up a cabin in my category that probably had appeared sold out !

I purchased through Costco Travel and the room bidding says I'm not eligible to bid????

just a "heads up" for you......we are not allowed to mention the names or travel agents or agencies here.

No ouch necessary. You were being reminded that you had violated CCs Terms of Service by mentioning the name of a Travel Agency, as that is expressly forbidden . As you are clearly new here, you wouldn't have known that.

Some big store agencies have opted out of the bidding program.  If you purchased your cruise through one of them, you won’t be able to bid.  As far as bidding on sold out categories or sold out cruises, just got awarded an upgrade on 2 of them.  So it is always worth it to take a chance.

I am at 75 days for cruise, full payment was due and paid 3 weeks ago.  that is the only thing I see (being not eligible agency) as the reason for not being eligible to bid on Princess site

IIRC, your specific store agency was not participating in the bid upgrade program (have no idea why not).  This was from a post I recall back when program was newly launching and someone who knew about it was mentioning it.

Who is "it" Are you referring to the CC newbie who made the faux-pas. Referring to a person as "it" is pretty much, isn't it?  And of course, every one of us CC veterans have long since read and memorized the Ts and Cs, but I don't have an issue with cutting a new member some slack. ;o)

How many days from the cruise did you find out your bid was accepted?

We placed our bid 28 and 35 days before sailing.  In both cases our bid was accepted within 48 hours.  But I have been monitoring cabin availability and would have been surprised not to be upgraded.  What puzzles me is that we are on a B2B and we were upgraded in 2 different cabins. One of the cabin is still available for the other sailing. I called Princess today.  Not possible to avoid the move without paying a big amount (more than $2K).  Oh well, the move is more trouble for the steward than for us.

I gather you were upgraded to two different cabin categories.  If it was the same category, you should be able to swap to another cabin for no charge at all.

Is there a guarantee that you keep your existing perks ?

(OBC &Casino credits)

Several things...

We have won bids on original casino bookings & kept all perks.

Apparently all big box stores & some other agency do not participate & the upgrade program.

Happily for me, my favorite internet agency does.

A long time ago, I inadvertently mentioned the name of an agency.

SOMEONE COMPLAINED to cruise critic that I broke the rules  .. get a life.... anyway, I got an email with a warning not to do that again & they assigned me a point. I have no idea how many points you have to get before they take any action against you   :O)
