Does anyone know if there is any bars on the Discovery Princess that uses the Riedel Wine Glasses?

Tom😀

I don’t know but, we went on several Grand Princess cruises several years ago.  I inquired on the first cruise about having thin rims on the glass.  This was in the Vines.  The wonderful sommelier pulled out in the back two riedel glasses.  The rest of the cruise he nightly served our wine in the reidels

the other Grand cruises we took for the next two years, the same sommelier worked and astonishingly to me he remembered our names and automatically gave us the reidels.

By the way, his name was Christopher.  The grand is no longer in San Francisco.

heres wishing you the same good fortune.

The majority of glasses on the Discovery and Sky recently have been Spiegelau in bars and dining rooms.

The Sky also has Riedel and you can actually take them with you from the original.place of service without being chased down like a criminal! It was very refreshing for us last June!

Too funny!

If you can't get anyone's attention for refill, simply walk away with the glass - you'll have a server almost immediately!

Same thing happened to us on Regal. We PROMISED we’d bring them back, after dinner and they let us take them. And we returned them….

On Ruby (December 2023) we were given special dispensation to take our Riedel wine glasses with us to MDR. Of course we had to promise to watch them like a hawk to keep the MDR staff from "clearing" them from the table and to return them to Vines. Several times we had to stop the MDR staff from taking the glasses. The guy in Vines (Leonard?) said they love to steal those glasses.

Not a surprise. Since they are very thin, it's easy to break one, too. I made the mistake of having one break in my hand, while drying it at home.

They use both Riedel and Chef Sommelier wine glasses on the Discovery but they are getting harder to find.  The Discovery used to always have nice wine glasses but they’ve been replaced by those chunky heavy duty Libby type wine glasses.
We were recently chased down leaving the Crown Grill (not on the Discovery), as my husband had one of the Chef Sommelier glasses in hand.  I was done with my wine so left my Riedel on the table.  Ridiculous!   We aren’t going to steal them.  I guess some people do but, we always return our wine glasses to wherever we’ve gotten them.  I get that they are fragile but we are always careful with them and haven’t broken one yet.
We cruised on Celebrity last year and every single venue, except out by the pool, used Riedel glasses.  Even their water, martini and champagne glasses were Riedel.   Wow!

We'll be on Regal on the 25th. I'll be bringing my Reidel glass to dinner from Vines, and then we'll return it. I'll report back. LOL

I see some comments suggesting that the bar folks think some folks will steal the good glasses-While I am sure that none of us would, I do think there might be others who would-I saw one lady who had 4 rolls of the ship's toilet paper in her suitcase as she went through customs 🙂 ? On a serious note, we just got off the Emerald Princess after spending two weeks at Vines bar. Interesting to listen to our bar tender, Aldrin, tell us about how hard it was to get the good glasses back. We saw many folks come back with their glasses after "pinkie swearing" to return them.

I experienced the same. Went to Vines and was like finally, a nice wine glass like I’m used to using at home. I thought I could bring it to my cabin, wash it out, and use it for the rest of the cruise but a waiter said he needed to swap it out or he would get in trouble. He was on it in like 5 seconds flat once I stood up with my wine glass full of wine. I totally get it. I’ve broken my share over the years and once I do, I’m like there goes $20+ down the drain. But once you use a Reidel glass, you never go back.

Just off the Discovery yesterday, after 3 weeks.   Thin rim glasses were easily obtained if requested.   Never had any issues with being restricted when leaving a venue.  Several different brands and sizes were in evidence.

We just love Aldrin.
We not only pinky swear but tell them to charge us a deposit of $25 a glass .. not that they charge us but I’m serious that we would pay that amount if we don’t return them.  Another one of our favorite bartenders told us they definitely keep track of who has those glasses.
some ships are pickier about it but once they see we always return them at the end of each day, they trust us with them.  We are super careful with them and when we order a second glass of wine, we just have them our it into the nice glasses we’ve already used that day.

Still, a very decent wine glass and a little more heavy duty than the Riedels.  I’d take one of those every day.
Even when we got to Vegas while playing at the machines, they will give you a nicer glass in some casinos if you ask for one.  We always return them to the bartender at one of the bars and they are always so appreciative of that there, too.

Oh my word, you have to be really desperate to steal cruise ship toilet paper!
Whenever I return from a cruise, I always note how much I have missed my Charmin! 😆
