Other person in cabin isn’t going, can I still?

So the other person that’s was going to cruise with me next week backed out; but the cruise is entirely paid for already. Can I still go without them?

also will I be charged for their mandatory gratuities?

I'm pretty sure the port fees will be refunded. And if gratuities are prepaid they too will be refunded.

You can absolutely sail and you will not be charged the gratuities and your price will not change since the cruise in now in full penalty and the other passenger's cruisefare is non-redundable unless they bought trip insurance.  jasbo49 is right...the other passenger will be refunded port charges, taxes and any packages or excursions purchased back to the form of payment used.  It is always best to notify the cruise line once you know for sure they are not going.  You may be able to change the 2nd passenger to another guest that can go if that is doable for anyone.

If the other person has insurance, they will be refunded cruise fare minus cost of insurance.

 

If the other person did not have insurance, then...

1.  They will not be refunded anything

2.  You will be charged a solo supplement if you did not purchase insurance.

 

Happened to me at the last minute.  It was a "short" cruise, bought under 90 days...why would I need insurance???, other passenger bailed out on me.  I had to pay a solo supplement.

Good point...that is true especially if they have Princess Trip Protection and not an independent travel insurance.  Thanks for clarifying with your experience.

Yes, but you'll pay the solo supplement. 

 

There'd be lots of people trying to work this loophole if they didn't have it in place.

Because the other person could put in an insurance claim?

 

If you're paying for both of you, why aren't you the primary on the cabin?

If it is a free comp, and the primary isn't sailing, not sure how it would be handled. It's a comp for a reason. People would be selling comps all the time by not showing up, and having another person pay port taxes and fees.

 

Say I have a friend who gets comps. They put me as passenger 2, and then don't show up. I get a close to free cruise? Doesn't sound right.

 

Will be interesting to see how it's handled.  I'm sure it's in the T&C somewhere.

Do you have access to the T&C of your comp?  It should state what happens when cases like this arise.

I looked up the T&C and I don’t see anything about a “single”..but from reading other posts; folks say just do a “no show” and tell them at the port “she’s delayed, we’re not traveling together” and board without her

I just found out I have this same dilemma for a cruise in 2 weeks.  

 

Cruise is booked under friends name under a casino offer.  I had the same offer (which I've since used on another cruise), but we chose to book under her name.  

 

Now she's not going.  I'm tempted to show up, using the delayed excuse and see what happens.

All I can say is this ALMOST happened to me, but I was able to make a BIG change. I was counting on my friend to go with me, but to make the long story short a few months ago she got sick and kept getting worse, and she just found out she has leukemia, and had to start treatments, so she couldn't go. I knew I would be fine with the room (I had paid for all of it), and I do have a Princess CVP, so I contacted her as soon as I knew my friend was not able to go, and what would the options be (losing money or etc.), or what if I could get someone else to go in her place. My CVP told me that I would probably lose about $500, but if I could find someone to take her place, she didn't think there would be any charge for changing the names, and thank God I was able to get someone to go, and her name was put in the place of my friends. Now I don't know if you booked the room on line, or if you have  a CVP, but I will say she has really been a blessing when trying to book for the 8 of us.

I've had time to digest this thread.

 

1.  Passenger with casino offer booked the cruise (Passenger 1) and is now not going.

2.  Passenger 2 wants to still go.  Was also offered casino booking, but did not make reservations under her name (therefore....a non-issue).

 

My take (and just that since I have never booked under a casino offer).

 

I know of someone who was going to do this.  They were told that the casino offer person who booked this cruise would have to be on the cruise or it was a no go.  How would Princess know that they "just didn't show up"?  who knows.

 

Since no insurance was purchased, if it becomes a solo cruise under normal conditions, remaining passenger would be charged a solo supplement.  

 

Will Princess remove passenger who is already boarded before cruise leaves port?  Will they add the solo supplement to onboard folio?  Not a risk I would be willing to take.

You need to call to see what can be done especially since you've had offers too.  But this being a casino offer you may have no other choice than to pay the full fare if you choose to go.  Here's the fine print from a recent casino comp email:

Pay the full fare AND solo supplement.  That’s a hefty chunk of change for a “free” casino cruise.

The OP says stated they looked up the T&C. Apparently, they didn't, or just didn't bother to read it in it's entirety. 

 

They're going to board and get the bill because they agreed to these terms.

Looking further, they bid on an upgrade and don't like the location. Maybe that's why the spouse is refusing to go?
