As someone that needs to be careful of their posture due to various back injuries when I was younger, I'd rather have a nice supportive backrest than be lounging. I also find it easier to drink my coffee/drinks and eat nibbles without getting crumbs all over the place if chairs and tables are matched in height for that.

Well it appears you got it... QUEEN POSTUREPEDIC!  At least it will discourage those armchair nappers in the Commodore and Chart Room in the afternoon... the ones with the same book for the whole three weeks and never make it past page 21. Ditto no steamer chairs. It seems a mite austere and severe to me, but I always aced cabin inspection on my ship... even sharing a cabin with three 16 year old cadets.

Yes... very hard to get a fair impression of interiors in at this stage... finished just enough to be deceptive without being well... really finished.  And empty spaces without people even more so.I bet the housekeeping staff is not pleased with all those black hard surfaces in the suites... what a dusting nightmare!

Me, I am more concerned that I have yet to see one piece of furniture that is not covered with what appears easy care vinyl or imitation leather.  There is not a single piece of comfy looking fabric upholstered furnture either portrayed in the renderings or in reality. And all of the chairs are upright, small profile armchairs that might be suitable for dining but hardly condusive to lounging with a good book and a coffee. The other Cunarders are filled with this type of traditional furnishing imparting a cosy quality that seems wholly lacking in QA as presented. So those who want different... well it appears they got it!

A bit of dusting must be nothing compared with keeping shower screens clean… if they have any. Amazes me in hotels how well staff clean shower screens.

I have no problem with QA being different. Looking forward… 67 days to go.

It is clearly going to be different in the same way QV was different to QE2.

And my, wasn’t she lambasted… mainly before people sailed in her. I must say I really don’t like the black wood though, but I’m sure lots of people do.

The main comment from housekeeping about QVs aft refit, was all about keeping the black wood 'smear' free although there it is gloss black as opposed to QA which looks as if it might be a matt finish.

I'm not impressed so far of the little I've seen of the cabins but it's early days and hopefully, once onboard and with the ship 'finished', as I get used to the interior finishes, I'll get used to the decor and the cabins.

Absolutely and now many people's favourite.

The ‘new’ aft grills suites on QV were a test run for QA. Having occupied 8178, I can confidently say the finishings are beautiful, though you’d sure want to keep hands away from the glossy wood panels (must be a pain to clean - another reason to tip stewards).

I’d say the QA will look amazing too (love the colour schemes) and look forward to sailing later this year.

That said, 8178 did feel more cramped due to some design elements like including a partition wall between lounge and bed. I felt the coffee table was also too large for the lounge space. It seems that the suites are smaller than on the other ships so I hope they get the furniture sizing right.

Having also stayed QG 'aft' a couple  of times, and of course not having had any experience so far of QA, I would say the very comfortable elegance of the aft cabins have little in common as far as I can glean so far with QA QG suites.

From renderings and the short video, the adjective I would use is for QA is 'contemporary' although I'm hoping 'comfortable' will also feature. Luxury of course, is in the eye of the beholder.

We have been spoilt on QV so will have to approach QA with an open mind.

From the renderings and the photos of the bathrooms I’d say QA is very similar in decor to the QV aft QG suites. Not identical but very similar. Also, still under construction with poor lighting probably isn’t doing it justice.

Taste is an interesting thing. So many loved QE2 but when I see photos from the 90s and 00s I see a dated decor that belongs in a grandparent’s home. Yet clearly many people (mostly grandparents? 🙂) loved it.

Bathrooms, yes, similar apart from the ensuite 2 doesn't seem to have two sinks but then it does have two bathrooms [I say bath but one is a shower room]. It will be interesting to see if the great room decor will be similar to QV aft. I still say not.

Having two cruises booked for this year, I will report back.🙂

Not just grandparents. I first went on the QE2 when I was 20, and the faded grandeur was one its most enduring appeals. There was something very special about that ship.

When considering taste though, I'm not sure any ship could be considered particularly tasteful, if you look at the constituent parts. It's a bit like Vegas hotels. None of the decor would be what you would ever choose, but you find the place that feels right.

QE2 looks very 70s.. My parents (in 90s) loved it. Now looks very dated whereas QM2 etc are more timeless. QA looks a bit blingy to me at the moment, but I am sure looks much better in person. Which is 66 days away for us. Not that I am counting (My Cunard tells me). I have no problem with Cunard trying something newer

What a lot of people don't understand about QE2 is that one of the things frequent passengers loved about her was the crew. For a long time, she was the only Cunard ship (not counting "the yachts of Seaborne" and the brief time they had Caronia), so crew stayed with that one ship and became family--amongst themselves AND with the repeat passengers. Being greeted with "welcome home" really meant something.

As for decor, ship or hotel, I've seen some that were ugly and some that were beautiful. But even the beautiful ones weren't necessarily decor I'd want at home. But they fit the purpose for which they were designed.

And on the subject of design, I do wonder about those chairs--they're everywhere. Different fabrics, but same chair. Comments about whether they'll be comfortable make my think they might be designed more for short-term sitting rather than a leisurely lounge. My mother used to talk about working in NYC in the 1950s and eating at Chock full o'Nuts lunch counter/coffee shops. She said a story went around that the counter stools were specifically designed to become noticeably uncomfortable after 20 minutes so that people would move on and another customer could be served. Perhaps that's what Cunard is up to with those chairs?

It must be the way the photos have been taken as all indoor rooms look like they have low ceilings which cannot be the case as the ship hasn’t been built for the Borrowers.

The latest render from this week (with the slot machines in the background) looks like the casino bar, seems very low.  And looking back through all the previous renders they do give that impression.  Because this HAL class of ships that the QA is based upon have a lot more superstructure compared to the QV and QE, I wonder if they have reduced the height of each deck for stability purposes?  I am due on the maiden voyage, if I remember I will take a tape measure and the same on my next QV voyage to see if there is a difference.

If you look at the photos I shared you can see the finished casino and the ceiling height looks about the same as the others. This render makes it look much lower than it is

That’s only the carpet. If you could look up and see more of the roof/ceiling, it is a glorious light white and gold. You would almost expect a few angels to pop through.

Why are all the guys laying up tables ie  the glasses , wearing white hard hats? Are there low flying angels?

Safety hats to prevent the excess spit from angel trumpets landing on heads!
