Suggestions To Crystal

It sounds like Crystal may need to rethink ballroom dancing or at least the venue.

On another topic, thoughts on face-timing and talking on speaker phone in restaurants and lounges on the ship. On my last two Crystal cruises it was out of control. It seems as though Crystal should create a policy and train staff on enforcement of the policy.  Is this just the world we live in now?  Would love to hear from others.

Oh yes, please enforce those phone guidelines! On OC, there were to be "blackout" areas such as the main dining room but that never happened. Listening to other people screaming into their phones at the pool or anywhere else is just plain uncivilized.

1000% agree. In my perfect world, the internet wouldn’t work in any of the restaurants and on the pool deck so nobody could talk on their phones. It’s just so rude.

Our last time on Serenity (which was amazing, btw) one afternoon at the pool, a woman was having the loudest FaceTime call - speakerphone no less - and we all had to listen about some inane drama with some family member. So I went up to her during the call and quietly said - ‘I’m sorry, but I’m able to hear your entire conversation and I don’t want to overhear something that’s private.”

I obviously should have been more direct, she didn’t get the hint. She responded and waved her hand at me “oh, don’t worry about it, it’s nothing confidential.” And just kept on talking!

Didn’t want to spoil a perfect day, so just waited her out. But damn if I didn’t want to throw her phone in the pool.

We were recently on the Serenity and a woman was haveing a FaceTime call in The Bistro. Scott Peterson asked her if she had ear phones, and when she said no he asked her to take the call somewhere else so it wouldn’t disturb others.  Bravo!

I could not agree more. 3 weeks ago on Crystal Symphony,  in Waterside during dinner, a middle aged female chose to shout and hold a video chat with a remote person. We tried to ask her to leave the restaurant but to no avail. We called for the restaurant management who asked the women to speak quieter. The real solution is to enforce a no telephone usage during meal times. On the rare ocassion when you need to take the call, stand up and leave the restaurant immediately.

Yes in the perfect world it would be blacked out in dining venues.

At the same time in the perfect world people would use common sense. You know common sense where you do't speak loudly so that you are bothering people nearby. You don't put calls on speaker phone.  You know common sense. Unfortunately we see this on land too. Even in fitness centers.

So yes they can put something in Reflections like they do asking people to use the hand sanitizer and not reserve chairs. but it's a shame they would have to police it too.

Then again speed limit on a road is 70 and you see people even on motorcycles doing crazy things.

How about when they call your rows on flights?

How about when you are in the city on a sidewalk which can accommodate only two to three people in one direction and those people don't go to a single line.Often I find myself saying two way not one way.

When you choose to sail with a lot of people you see the best in people but unfortunately the worst.

I can give you more examples.

OK one more. How about the room stewardess who can't finish up the rooms because one person doesn't leave their rooms until early afternoon.

I was in a hospital recently and there were areas where calls out and calls in were blocked because people were resting.  There were other areas designated for calls.

I feel Crystal should start with a polite notice and if that doesn’t work move onto more restrictive actions.

I see nothing wrong with throwing devices over the side.

I agree with the polite notice.

As a reminder one of the rules we follow on-board is not to throw anything over.

Now having completed  70 cruises, I must correct Keith1010. Man over Board, throw anything any that floats , so why the smartphone.

Read post 31. No person overboard.

And it is very clear what you toss in if someone goes overboard.

Given that, over 24 years with Crystal, the Sunset on Serenity and Starlite on Symphony are our favourite bars, we have had more than enough opportunity to observe the "ballroom" dancing, and frankly, it is rarely more than maybe half a dozen couples, plus the Hosts and the Single ladies out there, so really, which group is in the minority???

However, Crystal actively markets the ballroom dancing and ambassador hosts so the people you label as "entitled" are, in actuality, entitled to significant ballroom dancing.  More than one poster on this website has stated the they would not cruise on Crystal but for the ballroom dancing.

There are also people who hang out in the area to watch the dancing. Over the years I've had people I come up to me and mention when I'm wearing their favorite outfit, or tell me which host they think I enjoy dancing with the most and/or dance the best with etc.

One feature of Crystal is its many enrichment programs. The Art Instructors provide a variety of experiences. Dance Professionals offer Ballroom and Latin lessons. The Gentlemen Hosts encourage women travelers to enjoy dancing and host dinner tables with solo women and men. A Bridge Instructor teaches Beginner and Intermediate lessons and coordinates afternoon practice games. The Golf pro teaches and hosts golf outings. Magicians entertain groups with a maximum of 18 passengers. Guest Speakers discuss topics ranging from Rock Music to World Events to Planning for Travel to Mars.

There are five potential Dance Venues on each ship: Palm Court, Starlite on Crystal Symphony, Stardust on Crystal Serenity, Crystal Lobby for White Night, and the Disco. In Summer 2021, the Band played on the Pool Deck for Dancing.

Palm Court is the site of the Captain’s Welcome Aboard Party. It is crowded with dancers during the Party!

The original Filipino six-member and subsequent five-member Band and Singer performed in Starlite and Stardust. They provided excellent Ballroom and Latin music and encouraged requests from the dancers. The dance floor makes Starlite and Stardust the preferred location for Ballroom and Latin dancers.

So on my expensive luxury vacation my wife and I are not allowed to sleep late and enjoy a late morning / early afternoon together because Keith thinks it is wrong.  I too go to the gym every day but it doesn’t have to be at 4 am, or even before noon, just because you go that early.  Goodness.

On my last Crystal cruise I needed to rest one morning. We called the room stewardess and told her that she needn’t wait for me and I would call her when I was ready for her to clean the room. I told her if necessary she needn’t clean the room until the evening.

The Crystal butler and room steward are only a phone call away so it is so easy to be considerate and tell them your preferences. I have found them very solicitous of your needs.

I have just cruised again on Crystal Symphony, 24 days and felt the need to communicate directly  with Crystal Cruises  new management. I spent a fair of time searching for an email address.

CrystalComms@crystalcruises.com.

I wrote a very positive email and explained that I was however concerned about the relocation of the current  Bridge room which is being moved to allow a casino to be installed later this year.

What was impressive,  someone responded and said that they have forwarded my suggestions  to the appropriate management. Good luck.

I see you were onboard for 24 days. I have a question about the dress code. We are on one of the Crystal Journeys for 38 days. There are NO formal evenings, all the cruises joining us are 7 days. Are men wearing tuxedos? The white nights look popular. Maybe ditch the tux and bring more white clothes?

Up front the  Crystal experience is world class. We have spent more than 3 years at sea and Crystal is by far the best. To help you, on our cruise we had 2 formal nights, many men wore dinner jackets,  black ties ok my  was a white bow tie. White night is super cool. I used my white runners, socks, jeans and a white t-shirt. The ship turn Waterside into an all white , like a Hollywood  film set  and the cove is where it all happens. If you look at your booking online, you will find the daily dress code for your cruise.

Actually, no. I was referring to the "sense of entitlement" in the post I quoted at the time. For some reason the name "Marie Antoinette" came to mind.

Way past time for the ships' photographers to go the way of the Strolling Strings and the Baked Alaska parade.

As first-time Crystal ocean cruisers, we were surprised to learn that Crystal has ship photographers.  Neither of the upscale lines we have sailed post-COVID (Regent and Viking) have them.  Do people really use the photographers a lot?  If not, it would seem @KenzSailinghas a valid point for Crystal's new ownership as they refine their offerings and plan new ships.

We like the ship photographers. They are very professional, and if you’re not interested, simply give them a “no thanks.”

Check cellphones at entrance to Waterside?

Both my husband and I use our cell phones to adjust the volume on our hearing aids.
