molecrochip Posted July 21 #1 Share Posted July 21 The Captain has now made public that he is moving to Disney Cruise Line. Last rotation begins end of August. I know a lot of passengers really like him and will miss him. 3
Rare carlanthony24 Posted July 21 #2 Share Posted July 21 Don't believe ever had the pleasure of having him be a Captain but heard great things. Good luck to Wesley Dunlop.
Angel57 Posted July 21 #3 Share Posted July 21 Sailed with him as Captain of Iona for the first time last month and I thought he was fabulous and obviously had a great rapport with passengers and crew alike….. what a shame that P&O couldn’t retain him. I wish him lots of luck.
Harryjacobs Posted July 21 #4 Share Posted July 21 I loved listening to his daily report over the tannoy. Tickety Boo!
AchileLauro Posted July 21 #5 Share Posted July 21 We had the pleasure of having Captain Dunlop on both Iona and Aurora. On Aurora it seemed like every time we stepped out of our cabin which was near the bridge, we would bump into the cheerful talkative captain. We wish him well with his new company, certainly a loss for P&O.

sandancer Posted July 21 #8 Share Posted July 21 We enjoyed Captain Dunlop on our Iona cruise. Every port he was out on the dock greeting passengers. I can see that Disney will be a good fit for him.
Rare TigerB Posted July 21 #9 Share Posted July 21 He was the 'driver' on our Fjords cruise last June, and introduced us to the port manoeuvres: the Stavanger Shuffle and the Haugesund Hustle. He referred to his number two as, "my right-hand man, and thoroughly decent chap and all-round good egg, Deputy Captain Chris" He did make us laugh and was a breath of fresh air compared to a couple of other dour and mute captains we've had. I wish him all the best
AndyMichelle Posted July 21 #10 Share Posted July 21 We were lucky enough to be on his very first P&O cruise on Britannia, thought he was fantastic but wondered if his eagerness to engage was just because he was new. From recent reports, sounds like he is still as engaging today. A definite loss to P&O. Andy

wetterthanwater Posted July 24 #12 Share Posted July 24 Probably some light relief for the crew on Iona who won't have to hear the same jokes and announcements for the 69th Fjords cruise in a row. 😁

He was certainly more entertaining and noticeable than many of the other Captains we have sailed with.

On the other hand the perpetual announcements from a certain cruise director who shall remain nameless and hopefully long forgotten really, really, really irritated.😬

Rare P&O SUE Posted July 28 #17 Share Posted July 28 I’ve never had the pleasure of sailing with Captain Dunlop but have heard good things. Sounds a great loss to P&O.
Cruisemeister2002 Posted July 28 #18 Share Posted July 28 Sure I have met him. Not sure who they were but two things come to mind. One was when I was in one of the scenic lifts and the Captain was also in the lift. I made the unforgivable remark that it was a nice boat. To which the Captain replied "It's not a boat, it's a ship" The other story I heard was one of P&O's ships was hit by a large wave and a little old lady went up to the Captain and said"Captain, Captain, there's water running down the Atrium stairs" To which the Captain replied " Madam, I will only be concerned when there's water running up the Atrium stairs"

a1psx Posted September 21 #23 Share Posted September 21 Just back from the Fjords and it was Captain Wesleys last cruise with P&O, saw him on the quayside a few times during the offboarding talking to folks and doing photos. 1

travelhamster Posted Tuesday at 03:33 PM #25 Share Posted Tuesday at 03:33 PM Met Captain Dunlop on his second to last cruise during the tour around the ship. He was lovely and a great loss for P&O but a fantastic win for Disney. Guests are going to have a Very Funny, Very British captain who is going to make sure things run tickety boo!
