I am jumping ships!!!

RCCL has smaller cabins if you are on one of the older ships. The newer ships have bigger cabins.

I just went on the Freedom of the Seas which we all loved however the cabins are much smaller. We had an ocean view cabin with three people in it. Just a middle of the road cabin and it was much much smaller than a comparable category cabin on Carnival. The bathroom was also much smaller with the shower stall measuring 24 inches across (it was round) and felt like a test tube when I was inside it. The beds also are different and we were not able to store our luggage under the bed we had to put it in the closet. Even the lowest category of cabin on any Carnival ship is larger than this one.

Having said that I loved the cruise but if I were sailing Royal again I would spring for a better cabin.

I've been on each line over ten times...they each have their good/ different points...try to choose the newer ships on either line - does it have the ports you want to see and the port you want to leave from and the amount of nights you wish to sail (love those 12 dayers!!!) and of course price. It's like comparing two very good restaurants you like to eat at...sometimes you just need to mix it up a little. In my opinion a room is a room - who is ever in it??

Carnival: better night life, better food, more relaxed atmosphere, fun oriented

RCL: better variety of shows, older passengers (which equates to quieter and more formal which is not necessarily a bad thing), service oriented

Just enjoy whatever you decide to do and Godspeed...

So?? You are comparing a suite on Sovereign with a regular cabin on Imagination?? Im missing your point. All the suites on Imagination have balconys I believe. Only suites on Sovereign have balconys, so you must be talking about suite on Sovereign to ??? on Imagination just because its "on the top floor".

You say you were never in a suite....but there are no regular balconys on SOV. So what you are saying, cant make heads of tails of it.

...I swear it had a balcony ...maybe it didn't but the room was definetly bigger I am looking through my records as I type

Edit...I apoligize I just pulled out my sign and sail card it was a JR suite...room 1050 October 28 1995. I didn't realize this was a suite.

Also without a Funnel, how will you get back to the ship?

LOL....valid point, Fred.. I've used that trademark red, white and blue funnel as a reference to 'navigate' my way back to the ship on more than one occasion!! :D

But if you get a wee bit too involved in the drinking while in St. Thomas, you might still find yourself a knockin' on the wrong door anyway. :) :)

Fred, that was exactly what I thought when I looked at the pic.

I love every cruise on each line I've tried thus far, but I have a soft spot in my heart for that Whale Tail funnel. :)

I have only been on one Carnival ship, the Conquest, and two RCCL, the Rhapsody and the Voyager. Personally, I prefer RCCL. As far as I'm concerned, the food is just a bit better, and the people seem to be just a bit quieter. But then I'm an old man so that would be my preference. I have never had a bad cruise.

thats ok, just like comparing apples to apples. Been on the SOV myself, B2B, Rhapsody which I thought was only so so, had a better time on the SOV, and the Voyager which I just loved that ship.

Interesting responses. We have found after multiple cruises on Carnival, RCCL and Princess, if the kids are with us we prefer (or I should say THEY prefer) RCCL because of the roller skating, ice skating, rock climbing, etc. My DH and I don't really care as they are all so very similiar. We have found the food to be a mite better on Carnival. As for the shows, nightlife, casino, etc. they are all just too much alike. Price is very much a deciding factor for us because when the kids are along we have to get two cabins. Carnival usually wins the price war. Take for example our summer Glory cruise coming up. Carnival was over $2200 cheaper for a balcony and an inside guarantee than RCCL. So, I guess it boils down to personal preference and what is important to you on your cruise. As previous posters have stated, though, we have never had a bad cruise, regardless of the cruiseline. :D

Just did a quick check and the Voyager class are pretty comparable with CCLs ships in the OV and balconies. The oceanviews are 160 sq ft compared to 185 for CCL.

I consider that a lot, 12%. It usually cost more too.

Anyway!

I did four cruises b2b. Two were Carnival and two were RCCL. I have found more difference between ships than lines.

I was in a OV on Voyager and was told it was 180 s.f. not 160 s.f. From RCL's website, cut and paste.

Oceanview Stateroom

Two twin beds (can convert into queen-size), sitting area , vanity area, and a private bathroom. (180 sq. ft.)

I just happened to see this when Pineview pulled it out in quotes. The window must be over 5 ft tall, very large. This was a connecting cabin, so a comfortable chair instead of a sofa.

Not married to any line here, either. For us the Voyager class RCI ships win hands down, but CCL pricing is hard to beat. Hence, our LOS in 1/09 is soon to become a CCL booking. I'd love to stay on LOS, but with 5 people in 2 cabins CCL is saving us $1,500 - $2,000, so it's a no-brainer. If prices were closer, we'd be willing to pay a bit more for a Voyager class ship, but that's enough for dh and me to take another cruise. Nothing on the Triumph was better than on the Mariner except the price, but we got what we paid for, and we weren't complaining. It was quite good enough. (the exception being the bed of nails aka CCL comfort bed)

I agree with the bed of nails. Mine to was awful, nothing like the comfort bed on the other ships.

Actually I like the new Carnival beds... sure beats the piece of plywood with a layer of foam rubber they used back in the day..

I like CCL for the price and the rooms. I like RCL because they seem to have more port days and less "fun, at sea" days. My daughter and I love RCI my mom likes Princess for familly cruises I think we are doing CCL.

Room size I'm on a cruise who cares!!! I am still in Iraq living in a very small space (way smaller than a cabin and the bathroom is down the road) I would cruise in a closet in a heart beat!!!

You are indeed correct. The insides are 160 sq ft. Trying to make the point for RCI and shot myself in the foot.

My apologies for the misinformation.

I would like to sail RCCL just once since the ships appear to be gorgeous but the price is a huge factor. Just to compare, the 25 sq feet difference in cabins is significant. The cost for a balcony cabin (not suite) from Carnival to RCCL can run $500-$700 per person. That would more than pay for our pre-cruise hotel and airfare for 2.

Also, not having access to self-laundry, iron, etc., is a big factor. Even though I don't use it that much, it's nice knowing you can.

As always lots of help and interesting comments. This board has helped me find unbelievable excursions and invaluable tips for many years. I thank everyone. I wouldn't set foot in a foreign country without checking these boards.

Every cruise on Carnival has been awesome but thought I might spice it up this year and try something new. I have my tax rebate to help me along this year so price isn't as much of a factor. My family cruises every year at Christmas. We take two cabins one balcony for my DH and I and one inside for my daughter and friend (she is college age) Haven't picked a ship yet on Royal Caribbean (I usually book in June) but my choices are good since I live in Florida.

This board at one time was for a community of cruising friends. I feel so sorry for people who feel they must leave rude comments. I thought we were here to help each other make our cruises more fun.
