mets550 Posted September 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2012 I love handing my seapass card to security for the very first time as I board. That first ding sound really hits you with reality that the cruise is about to start! What do other people look forward to?
tehbubba Posted September 11, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2012 For me, it's the step from the gangway to the actual deck of the ship. Actually, even just waiting in the terminal is awesome because for the most part, the not fun stuff is over!:D
andiloveu Posted September 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2012 :DI enjoy all the welcoming hellos from all the staff as you board. Never seen a grumpy face once when I've boarded.
pltag Posted September 11, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2012 The first time we step out on the pool deck, and then .... shortly after, the first time we hear those two magic words, "Bar Service?" :D :)

jailer19 Posted September 11, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2012 The sound of the horn as you leave port. There is no going back after that and it means you are truly on your way. Even though the horn usually scared the holy hell out of me, I never tire of it! :D
gambee Posted September 11, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2012 definitely stepping in the gangway and feeling the ship, there is just something about it :D
Daghis Posted September 11, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 11, 2012 My favorite moment is actually that period of time after being checked in but before boarding. I love the anticipation of knowing that my cruise vacation is but a mere moment away and that everything is all done to get myself ready. When they say that we can start boarding, I get a little giddy.

Even though the horn usually scared the holy hell out of me, I never tire of it! :D On my first cruise the captain blew the horn once, about 4 days into the cruise. I thought, "maybe its just a love boat thing"! Then FINALLY when leaving the last port, Capt. Trond layed down on it!!! Whooooo hooooo!! :D

Erik101 Posted September 11, 2012 #17 Share Posted September 11, 2012 Going to the top deck, look over the water and then look at the city realizing that the vacation has started. Five minutes later, go back inside because it's too hot!

shippmates Posted September 11, 2012 #19 Share Posted September 11, 2012 One of my favorite things is when we pull into port and I can see the ship for the first time. I know vacation is only a few steps away. The ding of the sea pass card is also exciting. I am not happy unless I have a cruise in the wings. I love the anticipation of knowing that my cruise vacation is but a mere moment away and that everything is all done to get myself ready. When they say that we can start boarding, I get a little giddy. Espically after forcing yourself to wait until 10:30 to get the taxi to the port as you don't want to arrive too early. Otherwise, you would be there at 9:30 or earlier.

Worn out mailman Posted September 11, 2012 #24 Share Posted September 11, 2012 :DI enjoy all the welcoming hellos from all the staff as you board. Never seen a grumpy face once when I've boarded. That was my initial thought. Every crew member you encounter the entire first afternoon greets you with "welcome aboard", even knowing as they do that you're going to ask them to do something for you. That's opposed to the look of dread we get in our everyday lives when someone in service (other than your friendly neighborhood mailman) knows you're going to ask them to do something for you.
