Lanyard- Fancy or not?

I know that you can get the free lanyards in the casino...but I am also using these as gifts. We have 3 males and 3 females sailing. I got the 3 guys great buys off eBay of NFL lanyards which I know they will each wear proudly. Now the problem is for myself, sister & Niece. I see the "Rhinestone" ones on eBay from 99-4.99 plus shipping but I saw the same things in the $ store for a buck (no shipping there) but they look like stickers. Like gel, rhinestone stickers and even in the store some were falling/peeling off the lanyard. Grant you, I know it was a dollar store so what to expect. Even Dollar General has the same rhinestone "sticker" type but selling for 5.99 I would hate to spend even the buck to have these little gel stickers stuck to us the first day.

So then I started looking at bead ones...I really don't want to go over 5.00 incase they don't hold up either. Has anyone found any good ones that look nice (like a necklace) that hold up and hasn't broken? Can you post the website or a pic of what you use.

Also, do the bead type ones pull your hair? All 3 of us have long hair. Sorry to have made this a short novel!!! Thanks for reading!

I bought a bead type one from E bay several years ago for $10.00. I have used it I know on 3 cruises and has held up well. Looks a lot better than ones sold on ship. I also have several bead for life ones I like. (Charity to help African women. Beads are made out of paper and are beautiful)

The casino ones do not hold up for the entire cruise. I would def. purchase your own. I bought the bead kind at Walmart for myself. I would like to find a 49ers one for hubby. You could always buy 2 $ store lanyards in case the first one breaks and your only out 2 bucks.

Go to WalMart or a bead shop. buy a bag of beads that you like, some beading cable, crimps, and a clip. String as you like, as long as you like.

I had to wear a security badge at work. I made my own lanyard and it lasted for years...

Also check Staples and other office supply stores. Saw some pretty ones there.

Can't help you with the hair issue. I've been using the same casino coil for several cruise now.

I hang a small, lightweight flashlight on my lanyard. JIC.

I have a plain one from a car show that I use when off the ship. I clip both our cards to it and stuff it in my backpack when diving. I just bought a blingy rhinestone one in Las Vegas that I may bring. I rarely use it on the ship, because I have pockets on most of my clothes, but maybe this time.

Very good suggestion to me make one....but I'm not sure I would be confident using it since I never made one before.

I have been in contact with a lady on eBay that makes and sells them. I'm cutting it a bit close but I think it will all come out ok in the end.

Thanks for the thoughts, comments & suggestions.

If you go to a bead store, most will show you how to string and crimp. You see it once, it's hard to screw it up after that :)

I bought a pretty "crystal" beaded one at Staples. Don't remember the cost as I had a credit I used.

I've never used a lanyard out of almost 100 cruises. :D

I have never lost my ID card and have no problem putting it in a pocket or a small wristlet purse or such.

How many of you always use the lanyards? I'm curious approximately what percentage? Thanks if you care to say.

I always use a lanyard. I have a beaded one and a rhinestone one. I constantly misplace my card so it's pretty necessary for me.

This board makes it sound like a lot of people wear them, but I think it's actually a very small percentage of cruisers. To me it would be like having to wear my hotel card around my neck.

I think more women than men wear lanyards.

I do because not all my clothes have pockets, don't carry anything else to need a wristlet and I don't like carrying things in my bra.

Sometimes I'll take off the coil and clip it to my belt loop.

I require our girls to use a lanyard (or clip) because the only thing they ever lose is their cruise cards.

I have used a lanyard for the past 15 years. I love them sometimes I do wear mine or lots of time it is in my beach bag and makes my card easy to find. In fact I was at Home Depot today by the key area and they had a whole bunch to choose from. Local sport teams too if your looking for the guys. My husband uses his and puts it in his pocket. I also buy a fishing license holder. It is clear plastic and can hook onto your lanyards. I can put my drivers license my cruise card and money, I will wear it and just put it under my clothes, keeps everything safe. If my bag were to be stolen I am still good!

I am not a lanyard user in my day to day life. I usually keep my stuff in my purse. I definitely do not want to carry a purse around on the ship and the majority of my outfits for my cruise do not have pockets. So while I am walking around the ship during the day or laying in the sun, I will use the lanyard. For dinner, I have a wristlet where my card (and lip gloss) will go.

We've been on three cruises and have always used a lanyard. I don't have pockets and it's just easier than fishing it out of a purse.

I've never bothered with a lanyard. I have a couple I got as giveaways, but have never used them. I have a cross body bag and prefer that.

My niece bought one onboard, beaded with the magnetic closure so it releases with pressure. She had to get her card reprogrammed a couple times during the cruise due to the magnetic closure.

I've had that happen with cards before, but because of magnetic closures on evening bags...and once a magnetic closure on a tube of lipstick.

Just something to consider prior to purchase, or to be careful with.

I couldn't wear one if you paid me!! I'd feel like an idiot...!

Wearing the lanyard is not elegant but who cares! They sure are convenient. During the day I want to be hands free and comfortable. I don't want to carry a bag around ship unless I'm going to the pool. I just pop it in my bag in port or on formal night. Don't knock it till you try it! :)

I always carry a small purse for my lipstick (hate it when my lips get dry), tissues (allergies seem to give me a perpetual runny nose), and the daily newsletter (so I know what I want to do next), and my cruise card.

Don't care for the feel of a lanyard around my neck or the look of them.
