Just Back from Summit

There are several reviews of the Summit available on this board, so I will just give you my impressions of some of the concerns I had before we sailed. I had read on this board that the Summit was very warm. My experience was quite the opposite. Hubby turn the temperature dial down the minute we walked into our room and kept it there for the duration of our 7 day Bermuda cruise. This kept our room extremely cold and I needed a blanket during the night. So absolutely no issue of our room being too warm (just the opposite). The only too warm place on the ship for us was the elevator. No biggie to us, we spent very little time in the elevator anyway. We were in room 9112 Aqua. Absolutely no noise from above. This was a major concern for me and I worried about noise as I am a light sleeper. Noise was never ever an issue for us in this room. Now for the most important subject = food. We found the food on the Summit to be very very good. Needless to say, Blu was mind blowing. We also ate in the main dinning room for lunch as well as the buffet. Every meal we had was (for us) excellent and so enjoyable. Food is a personal experience, but for us after 51 cruises, we found the food on the Summit to be above average with no complaints at all. We found the crew to be efficient and always willing to do what it takes to please us. There were a few times when I had wished there were more waiters to take our drink order. Some venues were crowded and an extra waiter would have been very helpful.

Again, these are my personal observations and I hope it helps anyone who has the same concerns as I did about the Summit before we sailed on the her.

I just got off as well, and found there was a clear issue with the AC. Our rooms were good, thank goodness (7132 and 7144), but some elevators were swamp-like and a lot of the common areas were warmer than they should have been. Especially the main dining room. I was actually sweating in there some nights and my dad and brother removed their jackets to nearly drenched shirts on the formal nights. It could have been 10 degrees cooler in there.

We were on the same cruise and agree that the food was excellent. The service was excellent.

We did not find any issues with the AC. I too had read about the air conditioning issues and was slightly concerned before going, but we found that it was pretty cold in public areas and in the room as well. Different bodies have different reactions to temperature levels.

We have had AC issues on Summit twice in the last 18 months....too hot on one occasion and too cold on the other. The first time I fiddled with the controls myself and had marginal success in improving the situation. The second time I got the steward to get a ships hand and he did a good job...exactly what he did I do not know we were not in the cabin. Our next door neighbor saw him working on our cabin and had him fix theirs. I don't think it was just a controls adjustment. I think he had some of the air vent system apart.

Lesson learned....get an expert involved...lol

We were on the June 7-14 sailing and the only place we found AC issues was in the MDR, Select Dining section. It was too warm there every evening.

We had long waits in Select Dining every night. Behave rose issues been resolved in the last month?

Hi Karon thmpsn!

Which sailing were you on? We were on the July 12- and I agree -- most everything was great! From Granite City, IL- so close by on vacation, AND at home.

Steve

Was captain Kate at the helm? If so how did she do at the liars skit?

Steve, we sailed on 7/19/15 cruise. I always check our roll calls for anyone who lives close to us. It is such fun to meet neighbors on a cruise.

We still had Captain Leo. No one could say for sure when the female captain will take over.

Thanks for the report about room 9112. We're booked into room 9110 on an upcoming cruise on the Summit and were a little concerned about noise as others have reported problems. You've eased our minds.

We were on last month. Also found the only "Hot spot" regarding AC was in the elevators. Not a big deal as we're only in them for a minute or two. We also enjoyed the dining experience and staff and crew. The only thing that would have made our trip a little more enjoyable is if there were not a ga-zillion people arriving in Bermuda at the same time on the "Breakaway". Longs queues for buses and ferries which were filled to capacity and then some.

We were in 9110/9112/9114 back in May. Np problems at all with either noise or temperature control. Our only "complaint" was that we couldn't open the balcony dividers between the three cabins.

  • 2 weeks later...

We were on the "Summit" to Bermuda in June. We loved the ship and Bermuda sooooo much, we just booked for next month! We've cruised o Bermuda in Sept several times and it is my favorite month to go there.

There were a/c issues in the cabins that my friends stayed in. It took a couple of days to get it fixed but it never cooled down to the point of being very comfortable.

Will the Summit go through any refurbishments in the near future? Seems like the a/c needs a good upgrade.

Monica

They are due for one in February 2016.

Not wanting to get caught up in crossfire - but IMO some of comments about air conditioning are a little overcritical:

With regard to elevators - there is no air conditioning in elevators. Its a box that gets hauled up and down a lift shaft. They have a small ventilation fan exhausting the air inside into the shaft and get fresh air renewed when the doors open.

So when a small box gets continually filled with warm people over and over again it will get warmer. There is little to nothing an owner/operator can do about this.

The comments about the big public areas, such as the MDR, are more relevent as this should able to be adequately temperature controlled.

We have a cruise booked on Summit and will apologise if it is unreasonable.

May I ask what cabins they were in. Thanks.

We would avoid one elevator on deck 11 because it was really bad. There was also an area in the casino that was very warm. Most areas were comfortable.
