Vibe sells out on Escape before group 1 even boards?

Do both terminals board at the same time? Is it possible that even being first to board from your terminal, the other terminal was further along in the process? Just a thought...I really don't know.

I certainly hope we're able to get passes in a few weeks but I'm prepared that the odds are against us, even with early arrival at the pier.

I'm thinking there may have been some on back-to-back cruises that picked off a few of the passes. They'd be back on board even before the wedding guests.

I think a lottery is a great idea- was just thinking that right before seeing the OP posted it. (off topic they are doing the same thing to be in the front section for Bruce Springsteen's tour- those with floor tickets can enter a seperate lottery to be up front- its fair and eliminates needing to get there early and risk getting shutout).

However, on the 2 Breakaway cruises and 1 Escape cruise I was on, I never found Spice H20 remotely crowded. I actually preferred that with either the pool or psuedo waterfall than vibe.

Is the same thing to be said for spa passes as well? Don't those sell out as quick?

We were lucky enough to get Vibe 9/15 on Breakaway and loved every minute of it. Booked aft and rushed on the ship with boarding #6 and got #'s 64&65. Worth every penny!!! Loved it! Booked 4-17 on Escape aft and hoping to getting Vibe again!

If the guys running NCL had any brains they'd really up the price on Vibe. Clearly the demand is significantly more than the supply at the current price...it's what I would do.

WOW, this is the first post in months in favor of a price hike. Are you related to FDR?

No...but I work in Accounting and Finance and seeing weekly posts about people clamoring about getting a vibe pass it just seems silly not to raise the price.

I agree.

Hell it worked for Margaritaville. :D

Yup that is the answer to everything. Raise the price.

Really people.

Well, yeah, it is....Intro to Marketing 101. Supply and demand. The demand is high for the low supply, raise the price. With that said, I'm one that prefers Spice H2O over the Vibe/Posh. Adult only during the day, great view, water feature available.

Maybe it will settle down a bit? I've told before about going to guest services at 9:00 PM on our Getaway cruise and asking for 2 Vibe passes, and they still had them available.

We didn't take them, and were just asking for fun after reading so many horror stories here about difficulty getting passes. We'd gone back and forth about getting them or not, and after viewing the area, we were thrilled with our NOT decision. Spice H2O is a much better location with views in 3 directions, as opposed to Vibe, which is jammed in the middle of the starboard side with no view either forward or aft.

He or she is right though. A price hike would likely have little impact on demand given the perks of vibe over spice.

Unlike the margaritaville impact, which wasn't apparently all that special anyway.

So I'm new to NCL. We've always sailed Celebrity & RCCL. Looking at booking a suite. Why would someone that has access to The Haven buy a Vibe pass?

The Vibe is for 18 and older only so no kids. Haven has kids and sometimes kids come with parents who have not taught them manners or don't have any themselves. You don't get to pick whom you cruise with in or out of Haven. IMO with Haven its over kill but clearly I am in in minority.

Another reason would be if you have friends not staying in Haven on ship so you have a place to get together. That's quiet and relaxing and no chair hogs.

In my magic ball I see another vibe price increase. If NCL has proven anything lately it is that if they come up with something people want they are not afraid to charge more for it.

I remembered this review that said the Haven concierge was able to get vibe passes for guests without them having to go down to guest services:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2260638&highlight=concierge+vibe

It stuck out in my mind because it always struck me as wrong that Haven guests were able to get passes this way. I get that Haven guests get priority for a lot of things on the ship - tenders, specialty reservations, theater seats, etc. - but given that they have access to the Haven area, it seems wrong that they could grab up vibe passes in this way.

In any event, the review gives a nice description of why a passenger might want access to both areas (and the thermal suite, too).

The concierge can do most of the things other guests have to do themself at different locations on the ship, to buy a Vibepass is one of thoose things.

Since the cruisefare is often twice as high as for a balcony, and sometimes even more, it's only fair that suitepassengers get that priority.

Most passengers in the suites don't seem to care about Vibe so I don't really think that priority is such a big deal.

I know how hypocritical this will seem after staying in the Haven, but I really don't like the idea of Vibe/Posh. I would much rather see better loungers, facilities and service on some public decks, not neccessarily right at the pool. I guess what I don't like is how NCL is pushing this exclusivity model, which evidentally is more profitable. I can't afford to sail in the Haven all the time, but don't like the crowds at the new ship's proportionally small pools, nor the non-existant bar service. That is a big reason we booked the Star rather than the Escape for our next cruise, everyone has the same chances on the public decks.

I think very few Haven guests buy Vibe passes. I wonder if they opened up Vibe as another Spice type option if it would still be so popular. I'm actually surprised NCL hasn't at least doubled the cost as a Margaritaville type thing.

Boschmann! Was great meeting you at our Meet & Greet! I hope your Med cruise went well. We sailed the Dawn (sister to the Star) a couple years ago and liked it very much. The layout is very passenger friendly. As is the norm with most ships, on sea days, the pool can be a bit of a jungle.

On this particular topic, I think Vibe passes should be just like cabin selection. Presold, first come, first served.

If I want a particular cabin on the ship, I make sure to book far enough out that I get it. For those who want Vibe, Posh, or anything else like it, the same should apply

I agree! I'm not sure why NCL wants to potentially add stress and disappointment to their customers cruise experience. This way you know when you book if Vibe is available for you and you can plan accordingly. It should also be a nonreturnable charge.

We are sailing the Haven for the first time on The Breakaway and wonder what is really the difference between The Haven, Vibe, and Spice --apart from children

It was probably taken by Back to Back cruisers --we had the same issue on Princess last year, we were among the first to board and the Sanctuary were taken by all the Back to Back cruisers.

They get board first after they depart for a moment

Vibe has an outside bar, the Haven doesn't.

Vibe is not as quite as the Haven but still much more quite than the big sundeck.

The hottub in Vibe is better (I think), bigger and warmer, than the hottubs in the Haven.

With a Vibepass you have access to more areas on the ship, more options.

This is my breakdown of 'special' areas on the ship - i.e. for some reason or other not open to all passengers.

Haven (depending on the ship) is a much larger space that is exclusive to passengers in certain classes of cabins (which also confer other benefits that may coincide with Haven services). Depending on who booked those cabins, any type of passenger, including kids, could be in there. Access cannot be purchased independently of booking required classes. Features may vary slightly on each ship that has it, but generally seem to include a covered pool area, hot tubs and lounger areas as well as a bar area. Some have restaurants and sun decks.

Vibe is a private adult (18+) only sun deck, with loungers and in some cabanas. There are hot tubs and a bar. Access is limited to a certain number of passengers and sold on an FCFS basis on embarkation day for the length of cruise.

Spice H20 is an adults only free venue which contains hot tubs, some have a water feature, a bar and usually a video screen. For some events the area may be opened to all passengers.

Thermal Spa is a per-day or per-cruise option, also included with some classes of cabins. It includes a large heated pool, hot tubs, sauna and steam rooms, some ships may have additional features. Thermal and standard loungers and locker rooms are also available.

As someone very kindly put it, I have moved on. However, I think that the fairest thing would be a lottery. They could open it up at the 90 day point and allow one entry per cabin with a limit of two requested spaces max. They could pull the winners 30 days prior to sailing. Everyone would have a fair shot, and bad feelings would be spared. It would also give the winner a chance to plan out their cruise a bit more. Just a suggestion. What say you?

Too freaking complicated and a lot of hassle. Either you get to GS in time to buy passes or you don't. Simple and easy. The submit requests and hold a drawing thing is lame. You can't limit it to two per cabin. Some cabins hold as many as eight people. Even if you did open it to one per passenger, it gets complicated and absurd if ½ the passengers in a cabin get picked and the other ½ half don't. Are we to expect NCL to hire a Vibe Pass Lottery Admin and not pass the cost on?

Just face it not everything in life is going to be 100% 'fair' all the time. What one person's definition of fair will be different form another person's definition as well. Put as much effort into enjoying a cruise as you do into worrying about silly stuff like this and you will have a great time!
