Savory Bites!

We're in the process of putting together a dvd for my husband. It's going to be his birthday present telling him about the cruise I've planned for his 50th. It's video, plus pictures from our last cruise, and pictures of the new ports we'll be visiting that I found on webshots.com.

The one thing my husband still talks about from our last cruise were the savory bites served in the dining room each night. We were thinking it would be funny if we had a picture of savory bites to somehow incorporate into the video. If this turns out well, my daughter says she can post it on youtube so I can share with everyone.

Does anyone have any pictures from a cruise where you took pictures of savory bites??, or even a picture of the bread basket would be great.

What are Savory Bites? I've been on three RCCL cruises (though it's been a few years) and don't remember these. Evidently, it is something served in the bread basket?

They are little tiny rolls with herbs. YUM. Sorry, no photo, but someone must have one.

Hahaha I had to laugh when I saw this thread because I swear I could hear George, our asst. waiter on Explorer looking at me with raised eyebrows asking "savory bite?".

Just an idea, but why not buy a couple of those at a bakery, put them in a basket and make the pic;)

and to top it off munch them after the photo session:D

Well, they're not all tiny and hard. Some of the most delicious ones we had were soft and fresh. Just to clarify. ;)

They were good - our asst. waiter would call them "teeny weenies" every night when she served them. They are kind of like mini mini bagels, but without the holes.

I LOVED those things! Wish I had a photo of them for you, I understand the passion! Does anyone have the recipe?

They are just the best! Our group that cruises together all call them "bullets" and we made that up just after they came out and we were on the Serenade with our lovely assistant waiter, Mimi. She never forgot it and we have seen her since.

Loved the savory bites. On our last cruise the waiter was surprised we knew what they were but we got a plate every night on our table.

The title made me chuckle too. Just back from Serenade and I can hear our ass't waiter declaring the contents and makeup of the bread basket at the beginning of dinner. Savory Bites! What a great name for a band!!!

I do believe those are poppy seeds on the outside....easier to spell too. LOL

Have a picture and the recipe too (many years later !), but official recipe starts with "25 lbs potato flour..." so I scaled it down to 1 lb, have not yet tried it, anyone who wants copy, send me an e-mail hgutman@att.net

I was getting ready to post that, until I saw your post. They are definitely poppy seeds. We still don't get what the big deal is about "savory bites". DH and I didn't particularly care for them.

I think the big deal is that they're little :)

I really love all types of bread, and try not to overdo rolls and butter before dinner. One savory bite with some butter keeps me happy enough. I feel noble passing up the full sized dinner roll for one savory bite; well, ok--maybe two savory bites :)
