Obc?

Due to the generosity of SS and our TA, we have A LOT of OBC. Can it be used in the shops? What about the casino? I'm assuming it's not refundable......so we're forced (haha!) to spend it on board. So other than shore excursions (been there, done that!) special wine and the spa, where can we use it?

The $1 per night "voluntary" charity charge! lol

There were a couple on the Wind last week who had $3500 OBC. They at one point were offering to buy excursions for people and "sell" them on at half price. Not sure if they did or not - but in the end I know they were attempting to use it towards their next cruise since it IS on board spending. I'm unsure if that was accepted in the end!

We used ours on trips and Le Champagne.

I bet that went down a storm on the ship.

One real shame is that OBC cannot be donated to the crew welfare fund, however items purchased from the boutiques with OBC can!

I'm unclear as to how SS could prevent you from buying chips at the start of your cruise, and cashing in"your winnings" ( ;) ) at the end of your cruise.

It says in their Ts and Cs it isn't for the casino, but some years back I think someone posted they had bought chips. Might be worth a try.

ONBOARD SPENDING CREDIT

Any onboard spending credit issued to a guest is provided in the form of a shipboard credit, in US dollars, based on double occupancy suite, not per voyage and may only be applied once on combined voyages; can be used for onboard expenses such as shore excursions, spa treatments, premium wines and spirits, specialty restaurant dining fees and / or purchases in the Internet Café and onboard boutiques; not for use in the Casino or for Silver Shore Simply HotelGrande Hotel and Land Adventures. Single occupancy suites receive 50% of the shipboard credit shown. Onboard spending credits may not be redeemed for cash and any unused portion will be forfeited.

It think it depends upon the ship's purser as to whether you can apply a donation to the crew fund against an OBC. On my December cruise I was expecting it to pay it separately, so was surprised early this month when I was told my onboard account needed to be adjusted because it couldn't be applied against my OBC. Unless the rules just changed, which I don't believe they did. Confusing.
