Trying to find some reviews on this cruise as thinking of booking for next January. It would be our first SS cruise, previous ones on Regent. Will we find a big difference? Suite upgrade to veranda being offered but no on board credit, is this the norm? So many questions

We did this trip in 2012. It was great, we loved the Cloud, we had a fantastic time and made plenty of new friends. I cant comment on other cruise lines as after our first cruise on Silverseas we were hooked.

my husband did a trip report - we stayed at the Hilton for a couple of days pre cruise and he takes A LOT of photos so it is 7 pages !!

I see he has already posted a link to his report !!!

Go for it! This was one of our most memorable cruises. The Cloud is just perfect for the trip. Not only is she a wonderful ship with a great crew and friendly, well traveled passengers, but she is the right size to navigate thru the Brevis Narrows. For us, the passage thru this stretch of the river was a highlight of our trip. Life along the river, so isolated, so basic was fascinating. I think the Cloud is the only luxury cruise ship able to offer this extraordinary experience. The bigger ships may get to Manaus, but cannot sail the winding Narrows.

Robyn2, I'd suggest that you look through the thread that Duct Tape began aboard our Cloud Amazon cruise from November 2012. Lots of info. I posted various photos during that cruise, some of the sights and some of the interiors of the remodeled Silver Cloud. We were starboard, but both sides were just fine. Terrific cruise!

Appreciate this great reporting from our Aussie friend. I am up through all of your great posts, pictures and details to your stop in Manaus. Will continue the rest later this week. On this thread, it was great, also, to see such positive posts as those from duct tape, Wellseasoned, Emtbsam, CruisinPashmina, etc. I will be checking, also, the visuals, etc., from rojaan19. All very, very helpful.

For drron29, I see that you planning to be doing the Silver Cloud in June 2015 for the Norway Coast, top of Europe, Russia, etc. Great adventure there. As noted below in my live/blog, we got to travel with duct tape for so much of this great trip. Let me know any info needed to help on that exciting sailing for you. Loved our visit earlier this year to Australia and New Zealand.

We had planned for the Silver Whisper March-April 2015, Mombasa/Kenya to Cape Town. Wanted to do Africa, but we might substitute this option and later do Africa in 2016. Too many health and security questions for parts of Africa right now. My wife is "sensitive" that way. Still considering our options, but ready to make the switch from Africa to the Amazon later this week. Plus, would also do the nine-day Barbados to San Juan Silver Cloud trip. Total of 26 days, escaping the cold of Ohio in the heart of the winter. Smart??

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

For details and visuals, etc., from our July 1-16, 2010, Norway Coast/Fjords/Arctic Circle cruise experience from Copenhagen on the Silver Cloud, check out this posting. This posting is now at 154,959 views. Nice to be hitting this high of a level for viewership. Appreciate the interest and follow-up questions/comments!!

Hope you folks from Ireland join us to do this Amazon adventure. I am also very much into photography and have done several fairly popular live/blogs with lots of visuals from our travels. We super loved Ireland from our 2000 visit there, seeing most of the west coast areas, SW region, up to Dublin, etc. What part of Ireland are you from? The Irish are so much fun!! And on the Silver Cloud, we can try to drink the ship dry.

Back from doing a 14-day Celebrity Solstice, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure on this ship and getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Go to:

Terry, not ALL Irish people want to drink the ship dry!

Duct tape is 100% correct. Personally, I do not actually want to drink the ship dry. I just want to THINK about doing such. The thought is the excitement and fun. Much safer that way, especially for the next morning.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

If Venice is one of your future desires or past favorites, you might look at this earlier posting that I did on the Italy board that shows many options and visual potentials for this city that is so great for "walking around", personally sampling the great history and architecture. This posting is now at 41,463 views and I appreciate those who have dropped by and tuned in.

We were also on this cruise. Loved it, loved it, loved it. It is an unforgettable experience. Cruising the Breves Narrows with all the locals paddling out in their wee boats was just amazing.

Appreciate so much this posting and highlighting for this amazing area of the Amazon. Not sure our 2015 Silver Cloud cruise will go exactly that route and/or be near Belem. But, clearly there are many great options and sights with this adventure cruise.

Love to hear more details from patnlcc and any others who have sailed on this Silversea and/or other lines for these parts of the Amazon River in Brazil.

From the web, I found this description for this area: "The Breves Narrows is one of the most fascinating stretches of the Amazon River. Consisting of a narrow channel of water that snakes through the equatorial forest, visitors to this region of 1,000 islands will catch glimpses of exotic flora and fauna, truly adventuring into the heart of the jungle."

Until doing more research and reading this week, I did not realize a few of these "factoids" on the Amazon. This includes: The Amazon River is the largest river by discharge of water in the world, averaging an outflow of about 7,381,000 cubic feet per second, greater than the next seven largest independent rivers combined. It is also generally regarded as the second longest river in the world and has the largest drainage basin in the world. The Amazon accounts for approximately one-fifth of the world's total river flow.

Terry,

I so love the trouble you take with formatting your posts .... and generating interest in all your old ones.

If I gave you my logon details would you mind working your way through mine and bringing them up to scratch?

I feel that mine look so glum and cheap compared with yours.

:(

:D

Hi, Jeff! Appreciate your noticing and kind comments. It is really not any "trouble" at all to set up your posts in this manner. It is as simple as "copy and paste". I have a handy file on my MacBook Pro computer with several items that I use all of the time in doing posts. Long time ago, I highlighted a post using the color of "Blue", the size of "3" and the font of "Georgia". Then, I copied that basic "set-up" from my file. Then, anytime I want to post, I just paste that set-up/text to start a new post. Then type away on my text in the body of the planned posting. Easy!!

Does this help? Added questions/needs?

On the other key past posts, these summaries/set-ups are also kept in my basic "files". Then, I just "copy" and paste that info/link inside the box when doing such Cruise Critic posts. I also have files with lots of past pictures from trips to various parts of the world. Having those organized is done in an easy way to search and access, thanks to good Apple Pages programs, technology. Again, it is just "copy and paste" from those files and drop into a slot with Cruise Critic. Below are two examples with a copies of the key Silver Cloud staff while sailing in Norway.

Visuals add to the "FUN"!! Plus, a picture can be worth a thousand words. Communicates and share quickly what we saw and did.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

B]From the portside control area of the Silver Cloud, here is the view as our ship sailed up this narrow 300’ wide passage in the Trollfjord as a part of the Lofoton Islands along the Norway coast. The Cruise Director is here watching the action from a great vantage point.: [/b]

Thanks Terry. I do so admire someone who takes their own chef with them when they travel. I do the same. The problem is my chef is me. At least it's cheap!

Yes, Jeff, we can all dream and hope. BUT, sorry no personal chef for me, either when we travel and/or at home. But on the small ships of Silversea, we can dream and hope. Kind of close, somewhat, maybe, for that personal chef goal.

I have posted a roll call for our combination Jan. 25-Feb. 20, 2015, Silver Cloud Amazon-Caribbean back-to-back sailing over 26 days. It is at:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2094242

Please share!! Don't be shy! I encourage any with past experiences in these unique and great areas of the world to let us know your favorites, secrets, lessons learned, tips and ideas, etc. Just picked up from the library a number of books for the Caribbean and have others for Brazil/Amazon on reserved to get shortly. Fun doing that future research!!

Silversea Roll Call Challenges?: Not sure that the Cruise Critic "system" works and/or connects that well. Clicking on the roll call search device at the top of this SS thread does not now connect directly to there. Somebody with CC might need to do some fine-tuning to make things work better. Personally for a smaller ship line such as Silversea, I am doubtful that moving these roll calls off of the main board was the best decision to aid access and awareness. But Silversea has many ships and trips. I can see both sides on that pro/con debate.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

We were fortunate to visit theAmazon on the Cloud as the middle cruise from Barcelona to Rio last Oct/Dec.The Amazon 17 days was the best one off itinerary we have experienced with SS.Dont miss the opera house in Manaus but try and go between 10am & noon when most days the orchestra will be playing,go upstairs and sit in a private box (no charge) and enjoy the performance. another must is the SS excursion to the village of Anavilhanas which takes you from the anchored ship to the jungle village up a very narrow creek on a very narrow boat with fantastic local guides.Take some modest gifts for the school such as pens, paper, colouring books and crayons. You will be escorted to the school by beautiful local children approx six children per couple. An amazingly humbling experience you will never forget.Book the excursion on line at first opportunity because numbers are limited.Dont bother with Meeting of the Waters excursion you will see it from the Cloud.Another highlight to do on your own is a walk round Devils Island.Hope these tips will help you enjoy a special itinerary on a special ship which was in excellent shape when we disembarked on Monday.
