Buried away at the bottom right hand corner of page 178 of the new brochure is an announcement that from specified dates in spring 2016 the dress codes on Arcadia, Aurora and Oriana will be brought into line with the rest of the fleet. ie, two codes, Evening Casual and Black Tie, no more Jacket Required. P&O has joined the 21st Century.

Inevitable IMO as the code differences probably confused passengers. Oceana used to have different codes in summer and winter seasons and that caused confusion.

no mention of Adonia? A topic on the cunard forum reports that Carnival corp are disposing of 4 ships this year!

I am also saddened but not surprised to see this. Rather cowardly to keep it quiet though. Personally I like that dress code and the ambience it brings. I just wish they had kept it on the adult-only ships.

Shame.

Then again, there's nothing stopping anyone from wearing a jacket on those nights.

That's true, I wear a jacket or light suit every night on a cruise. Tux on Formal. This will not change just because other people don't.

I think this will probably be a good thing. I dont really see much difference on the casual / formal nights apart from the men putting a jacket over what they would have worn anyway. Sometimes the jackets matched. Sometimes, they really didnt.

I can see this will make packing easier for the men as they wont have to pack jackets AND tuxs suits. If they only need one formal suit it will make packing for fly cruises much easier.

And the women can now squeeze more shoes in the 'extra' space in thier partners cases...

I cruised on Arcadia to the Baltics. Jacket required nights had the ambience of a tramps convention with wierd and wonderful, ancient and modern jackets on display. ;)

ps - maybe they will sneak in the logical 3 formals per fortnight as well! ;)

So you will come on and say you got it wrong when the Adonia brochure comes out? :) :) :)

Of course not Dai. Nothing like a little teasing on a sunday ;)

Adonia is no use to me anyway, no casino

Exactly. They could not have picked a better ship to keep in the Caribbean on fly cruises. Still nearly 4 month before we cruise. I am going the opposite of stir crazy.

think you will already have to eat humble pie before you complain online read the brochure first especially bottom right of page 23 where it is explained about Adonia.

I think it's a shame but will still wear dressy clothes on casual nights if I feel like it; I normally take long for Formals, and a mix of short smart and short casual or separates for the rest.

I have obviously been lucky to experience generally good standards of dress on the cruises I have sailed on :). Sadly your suggestion about going down to 3 formals would not surprise me either. They seem hell-bent on getting rid of most of the traditional elements of cruising I am sorry to say.

If they are going to casual... then make every day is casual... why fool around with silly ties? Nonsense.

Because some of us like the formality. There are plenty of casual cruise lines to choose from if that is your preference.

Well P&O is one of them now, perhaps those wanting more formal should look elsewhere if P&O no longer suits them.

Really pleased to hear this, loved the Arcadia last summer. We only did a short cruise on her so didn't have the pain of semi-formal, nice to know now on a longer cruise it won't be an issue either. Well done P&O.:)

The reason that us 'traditionalists' get a little fractious about this is because our choice is ever more restricted - unlike those that like the more casual style. Having regularly cruised with P&O since 1997, the product is so very different now. And just for the record, I am mid-fifties and like to have fun :). I just happen to like the ambience the more formal style brings.

Slowly chipping away. I love dressing up for formal nights. When I went on my first cruise, the first and last night you wore what you wanted. I think one other night was jacket and open neck shirt. The rest was formal or shirt tie and jacket.

Cruising is evolving to survive, I am almost mid 40s, I don't mind the odd formal evening but the semi formal is just ridiculous in this day and age. No reason why what someone is wearing impacts on others holiday. I love the fact that P&O is finally moving with the times.

Me too Andrew. I shall still wear semi-formal while I have the clothes anyway.

Well said, I too have seen the some men wearing very faded velvet jackets with frills on the shirt, something not seen since the seventies.

An awful assortment of jackets, and yes it was the wifes fault for dressing the hubby up like something from a B rated movie

he he, it gave me a giggle.
