Fyi, I knew I would get flamed for posting this, so much for people understanding the work and effort one puts into in organizing a slot pull. Of course we did not tell the casino which machine we were going to use. And yes, I did buy powerball tickets the day we sailed. We had a great time dreaming up all the ways to spend our money. So happy I could entertain all of you.

What's the work and effort of organizing a slot pull have to do with it?

And you are asking your roll call cruisers to email you, in an effort for RCCL to refund all of you?:eek:

I know there is no guarantees in gambling and we expect not to win...

I believe that is the crux of this issue right there. I can't see you getting a resolution that will satisfy you, as that would set a precedent for everyone else who doesn't win.

Sorry you are upset but why not leave it in the dust and just try to remember the good times you had, OK? :) Life is way, way too short....

OP - I think your post has merit as a warning. We are very regulated here in Australia with our machines at local clubs being online to central monitoring. Yes, we can be naive and trusting about a huge company maybe having some honor.

We tend to think they pay out a few times early in the cruise to entice people to believe they may actually be set up to be fair. That just seems to be the anecdotal thing we hear.

I would hate to see one of the group suggest another machine and then the original machine actually pay out something!

We learnt so much here in the early days, but there is so much negativity that this site is losing its fun rapidly.

Isn't the slot pull supposed to be about having some fun? There's almost zero work put into organizing one. You pick a date and time and tell people to show up with x amount of money.

I'm also pretty sure your odds of winning on that slot machine were a lot higher than winning the Powerball jackpot. Did you complain to anyone about that?

This is a somewhat misleading statement. There isn't a payout "schedule" per se, but there an adjustment that can be made in the odds of a payout being made.

Sorry, it was not intended to be misleading. I was not using the colloquial meaning of "schedule" as in a fixed time or number of plays. That would be too simple an algorithm.

A "payout schedule" has a specific meaning on gaming machines; it's jargon. It refers to the probability (odds) of winning and the possible winnings, controlling short- and long-term statistical properties for the game.

I struggle to see where the honor is in gambling.

Looks like I'm past the edit time.

I just wanted to clarify that I'm not a seafaring Cotton Mather wannabe here. The only time I'll claim to be a Puritan is within earshot of my mother. :D

With that a said, a game of chance is a game of chance, and slot machines have been called "one-armed bandits" for what, 60 or 70 years now.

A slot machine in an unregulated casino wasn't loose with bonus plays? And someone is surprised?

Exactly, casinos in Vegas are regulated! On cruises, they are not and I play them knowing I am probably going to lose.😩 Dh always asks me to play blackjack with him since the odds are so much better and sometimes I will. I just love the wheel of fortune machine because I can hear it calling me all over the casino.....

WHEEL. OF. FORTUNE!!!! 😀

Oh dear.

I would love a refund of all the money I have lost in the casino too please! I would even settle for half.:p

Sign me up for a refund, too.

When I play the slots, I never expect to win, I just see it as mindless, fun entertainment. Sometimes I lose, sometimes I break even and sometimes I even win a little.

Just wanted to let you know that we just got off the Allure today. Great cruise, except for one thing. I organized a slot pull with people from Cruise Critic. 33 of us pitched in $15.00 each. We pulled on a wheel of fortune machine, $5.00 per bet which was the maximum. With some small winnings we had, we played over $650.00. which was 130 pulls. NOT ONE SPIN ON THE WHEEL! Something is wrong here, either your machine was broken or it is fixed. We spoke to the casino host, guest services, Florence in the Royal Casino Dept. Nobody gave us any satisfaction. We have played wheel of fortune machines all over, in casinos in the states, Vegas, and on many other cruises. We have always gotten at least 1 spin of the wheel for a lot less money played. What say you???

We even spoke to the cruise director, Jake, who was advertising on the tv in the room to play the wheel of fortune machine. HE PULLED HIS AD AFTER SPEAKING TO US. HE AGREED SOMETHING IS WRONG!!

I know there is no guarantees in gambling and we expect not to win, but does this sound normal? I think not.

I am posting this to let others know what a rip off the casino is. I hope some of you don't feel compelled to flame me.

The last thing the casino host said was we should have played the $3.00 max bet and we would have gotten free spins. Does this make sense? Spend less and win more?

Keep playing in the casino on a ship. GEEZ!!!

Gambling and Lotteries are, IMHO, taxes on people who are bad at math. The house always wins in the end. If you go in with the idea that it's for entertainment and you will not probably come out ahead you will be better off.

I went on my first-ever cruise last year, and I never set foot in the casino. I don't plan to do it on my next trip on the Allure in April either.

You're right, you have to go in with the right attitude. I never gamble more than $20/day and I have never actually spent the entire amount. Our last cruise in Nov/Dec on Vision, I started with $20 and added $5 a couple of days later and then another $20. I ended up coming out ahead by $30 after 10 days. I play 1 or 2 cent slots only and only play for 45 min a day or so. In 10 years of cruising, I have basically broken even. I'm not the kind of gambler they are looking for.

If I was going to go on vacation to gamble, it would not be on a cruise ship. I'd go to Vegas.

Totally agree on Vegas. Been there a few times, used to have friends that lived out there. Did mostly sight-seeing and shows, if we gambled it was slot machines at 1 of the off-strip casinos that the locals went to.

I would mostly play slots. I would put a certain amount of cash in my left pocket, and when that was gone I would put whatever I had won into my right pocket, instead of dropping it back into the machines....

Ships also have small sign's in the casino indicating that they reserve the right to reset the progressive jackpot slot machines as they see fit. Guess they want to make sure no one get's a large payout.

I think people have generally been too harsh in mocking the OP. Though I wouldn't go to the lengths to try to report it to so many people, it does seem like there may have been an issue with the machine. The OP said they didn't expect to "win," but on that type of machine, you do expect to hit the bonus every once in a while to at least extend your playing time. Not hitting that bonus even once in 130 spins seems pretty bad.

OP, instead of posting here and hoping that "Royal employee who monitors this thread" reads it, why not just contact Royal directly?

IMO. The OP is hoping loads of people will agree and that Royal Caribbean will take notice.

I gamble on the cruise, but only on the Poker tournie and Blackjack. And I only gamble what I am happy to lose.

If RCCL paid out a lot more than the OP hoped, the cruise line would look elsewhere to get its revenues.

The OP's post is definitely in my top ten favorites. Thanks for giving me a chuckle after my Seahawks lost. :p

YOUR Seahawks?!? Is that you, Mr. Allen?
