It happened on our cruise and they pretended not to speak English...didn't stop me and they were gone quickly and it won't stop me in the future...beware if you are on a cruise I'm on, you WILL be called out for violating clear policies that are meant to help everyone enjoy sometimes limited spaces...

Stick with it, an invaluable source of information if you are really into cruising.

Thanks. I've only ever sailed on Carnival before. And I have thoroughly enjoyed all of those cruises. But "looking forward" to my trip on Reflection coming up here. I'll be interested to see if the differences are ones that matter to me. ("looking forward" is something of an understatement. It's more like I'm a 5 year old kid impatiently waiting for Christmas.)

One question: is there a guide for some of the abbreviations? Here's some that I've figured out:

AQ = Aqua Class

CC = Concierge Class

OBC = On Board Credit

MDR = Main Dining Room

TA = Travel Agent

But I've run across others that I don't know what they mean (although none of them come to mind at the moment).

Hi DULLGEEK,

Welcome to Cruise Critic (CC) and Celebrity

Lol, I can relate to your Kid on Christmas comment... I had similar feelings of anticipation / excitement before my first Celebrity Cruise on The Solstice in 2012

I am still pretty new to cruising... But the feeling remains I find... Maybe because it is a long awaited vacation... Or maybe just because our cruises with Celebrity are just so awesome.

Lol, I think I will have to just keep testing the theory ver & over until I can figure out why / which :D

For Acronyms here on CC you'll want to check out the following CC Admin section = http://boards.cruisecritic.com/faq.php?faq=vb3_reading_posting#faq_acronyms

As well lets see if I can add to your short listed Frequent Celebrity ones:

MDR = Main Dining Room

OBC = On Board Credit

PYP = Pick Your Perk (the name of a Celebrity Booking Promo)

GTY = Guarantee

Suites, largest to smallest:

RF = Reflection Suite*

PH = Penthouse Suite

RS = Royal Suite

SG = Signature Suite*

CS = Celebrity Suite

SS / Sky = Sky Suite (these Suites come in 2 subcategories S2 & S1)

Other Classes

AQ = Aqua (currently comes in AquaClass Suites** and regular cabins A2 & A1)

CC = Conciege Class (comes in 3 subcategories C3, C2 & C1)

FV = Family Veranda

OV = Oceanview

* These Suites currently are only on The Reflection

** AquaClass Suites are only on The Reflection, and are in the process of being eliminated / converted to Sky Suites

And as noted, CC also stands for Cruise Critic (as well as Celebrity Cruises, C-Class Ships, Captain's Club) so best to write out what you mean.

Same thing with TA... Multiple possibilities:

Can stand for Travel Agent, TransAtlantic, or TripAdvisor (Cruise Critic's sister website)

Hope this helps,

Cheers!

Perhaps because the question didn't need to be asked in the first place. The rules are quite specific and should be easily understood, even by the most casual observer.

What if English is not ones native language? Are there pictograms posted near the adults only pool that indicate it is for adults only? Or rely on pool butlers to remind parents with kids? Is the adults only pool always adults only or during certain hours or unusual circumstances the adults only pool open to both parents and their young children (supervised, and out of diapers of course!). And inconsiderate parents who bring their toddlers , still in diapers, into the pool and hot tubs. They think nothing of it. I've seen brown stuff ie. poop and pee in the water. What's up with that?

I've only been on a few mid sizes Celebrity ships and have not noticed adults only pools on them.

Hi KINGOFCOOL1947,

Fortunately I have not seen poop in any Celebrity Pools... :eek: Yikes !!

To answer your Questions:

I am fairly positive there is signage on or near the Solarium Sliding Doors stating the area is 16+ (although I myself do not have a photo... Maybe some one else does)

The info on The Solarium, including it being a 16+ venue, opening hours etc is listed everyday in the Daily "Celebrity Today"

The area does have Crew / Staff assigned to it... It is their job to enforce the rules.

It is ALWAYS an Adult Area, unless there are extenuating circumstances where the main pools are not available... In which case Annoncements are made to that effect... Stating if necessary any restrictions (ie again Hours in Celebrity Today)

Solarium Pools exist on all of Celebrity's M & S Class Ships

Cheers!

We are considering the Reflection for our 17th cruise this fall. Before our 5 year old came along, we enjoyed the solarium pool on the Millineum. We would go after dinner and have it to ourselves. How strict is the adults only policy on the Reflection? I'm sure my daughter will hate not being able to get in it once she sees it! Also, any thoughts on the Reflection for a 5 year old? She has been on 4 cruises, but never with Celebrity. She is well behaved (as 5 year olds go), but typically does not prefer to do the kids club activities. Thanks!

You maybe able to answer the question yourself

What would you do or how would you have felt if there was a child or children in the Adults Only Solarium Pool when you used the Solarium pool during your Millennium cruise?

If you are looking for advice / opinions then I would say that you shouldn't take children to use an adult only area.

I go by the rule that my pleasure shouldn't be at the expense of others peoples pleasure.

Whilst some take their children into this area many using the pool wouldn't complain but it doesn't mean that they are happy with the situation.

I made a choice in life to not have kids. I also make vacation choices that involve options with few or no kids. I'm quite tolerant of a lot of things in life. Chances are I wouldn't be so tolerant of adults when they choose not to follow the rules established by the cruise line. Please don't place yourself (or your kids) in a position that forces the ship crew to act in a way that will only create hard feelings and a negative experience.

I chose to have kids, have grandkids,and love kids. BUT there is a time and place for them and would not appreciate them where they are not supposed to be. I heartily agree with you

I have to agree with other posters, not quite as vehemently but still the same feelings. I go to an adults area because it's Adult...

On another line I saw a family get bent all out of shape because the adult area was 21 and over... and their darlings were 18 and 20. It became enough of a problem that security was called and the next I saw of the family they were sitting on their luggage at the next port of call.

Obviously you are not in that league but messing with an adult area will get other passengers upset very quickly...

As a father of a 10 year old myself, I can completely appreciate the need for solitude. I can also respect rules as spelled out by Celebrity with regard to the solarium. We simply avoid it altogether. In other words, I try to teach our daughter that rules must be obeyed and respected.

Maybe it is a non sequitur, but what I do not appreciate are adults who behave like children with regard to deck chairs in the main pool area. Why can't people be civilized and show any respect to fellow cruisers with regard to this issue? How about obeying the 30 minute rule regarding deck chairs on the front page of the daily itineraries?

Why can rules regarding the solarium be obeyed, which from my vantage point seemed to be the case...but the issue of reserving deck chairs remains a wild card that Celebrity Housekeeping staff chooses to ignore?

Wow, it's amazing to see so many people who made "life choices" get their panties in a bunch at the mere thought of a child or parents with children invading their "Fortress of Solitude". Sorry, there are far worse things to encounter than petty things like that such as chair hogs (sorry, leaving a magazine on the chair while you go for lunch and drinks doesn't cut it.) or how about the people who try to get on the elevator before anyone has gotten off first, or the people that cut in line at the buffet or ignore the hand-sanitizer dispensers like they were put there for other people. C'mon "life Choicers", get down off your ivory tower and relax. We all know the rules, we don't need you all to remind us or reinforce them.:rolleyes:

I wish I could triple "Like" this comment. Zaniac, your logic rules!

While I have no issue with kids on ships, I do have issues with people trying to get around the rules in the adults-only venues. Children should ALL be well-behaved on a ship, so that goes without saying.

While one 5 year old likely wouldn't be disruptive, if other parents saw ONE child there, it would likely cause issues with the parents AND the other cruisers who were looking forward to an adults-only area that they paid for in their cruise fare.

Please don't break the rules for the adults-only areas - they are there for a reason.

Thank you.

I agree completely. I believe there are specific hours posted in which kids are allowed in this area -- behaved or not, please stick to those hours. This is fair enough for everyone. As mentioned, some book specific cruises for the adults only areas.

With that being said, it was very considerate of the OP to ask this question in advance.

I love kids and 5 is actually my favorite age. I'm sure your daughter is adorable but that being said, I really enjoy the adults only aspect of the adults only section and am relieved to hear that Celebrity staff monitors the solarium.

Sorry.

I don't think there are any hours that kids are allowed.

Some ships have Family Hours when children are welcome. On the Millie recently it was 4pm-5pm although I don't know whether that was every day and there may have been other times as well.

Agreed. As I understand it, It is a 16+ venue all the time

Unless there are extenuating circumstances and the Main Pools are not available... In which case there will be Announcements regarding the change

Cheers!

Are you saying that you are not going to book because you found out Celebrity enforces it's policy?

Or the OP found out what kind of nasty people cruise on Celebrity and decided not to book.

You missed some very cruel and nasty posts early in this thread. Thankfully they were removed but I'm sure the OP saw them before they were.

Just because most adults prefer to have an adult environment doesn't mean that adults dislike children. It just means that some of us don't appreciate a daycare center atmosphere in an area which we expect tranquility and relaxation ;)

Nothing worse than the high-pitched screeching and yelling noises that many small children make while in a pool area. Not at all suggesting that that would be the case with OP's child. Just saying that this has been the case on all cruises I've been on where there is no adult-only pool

Contrary to popular belief, many of us, even those of us who do have children, enjoy our adult getaways :)

Bob:

Here are the age limits for everything. Please note one misconception in this thread is that children are not allowed in hot tubs, they are under 16 if accompanied by parents. Please also note the the asterisk area where it says in the event of inclement weather children will be allowed into the Solarium. That is a rule also so if Celebrity allows kids in, they are not breaking the rules.

Below if from the Guest Conduct Policy.

Thalassotherapy Pool* Age 16 and over*

Fun Factory Facilities Ages 3 through 17, with age-specific sections.

Theater Under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian

Pools** Guests must be fully toilet trained to enter the pools or whirlpools

Whirlpools ** Under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent or adult

Ports of call Under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or adult

Bingo Under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or adult

Fitness Center Age 16 and over

Aqua Spa Age 18 and over

Ages 13 through 17 may only be present while participating in scheduled treatments

Adult Night Club / Disco Age 18 and over (see Alcohol Policy)

Casino*** Age 18 and over (except Alaska***)

Specialty Restaurants Contact Guest Relations Desk for age restrictions.

* During inclement weather and select hours, the ship may permit the Solarium Pool (if covered) to be used by persons under age sixteen (16) provided they are directly supervised by a parent or guardian.

** United States Public Health Department Policy (USPH) prohibits persons who are not toilet trained or use diapers, pull-ups or swimmers from using pools or whirlpools.

*** For all Alaska itineraries, guests must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older to gamble in the Casino.

We'll maybe we are helping the OP avoid a bad situation. I was on the Silhouette this summer and some parents decided to bring their young son into the solarium. The next thing I knew a staff member swiftly told them they had to leave. They were livid. The next day back in the solarium they were back with the child. The staff member went to the Captain and he arrived and called the young boy over angrily and asked him if he had read the rules. They left. I was impressed with the way the rules were enforced by senior staff .
