mustardgirl Posted August 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2013 All the rooms in my category are disappearing and I have a feeling it's because they are just giving them away... I know from reading here on cc that several have already been given free rooms! Now here is why I don't like it... now I can't get price drops! My cruise didn't seem to be selling out well from what I could tell, so I thought I would get to have some more obc! but nooo instead they are giving them away. Now with that said, I don't care if they give away the rooms in other categories, I understand Carnival wanting those that gamble to be on the cruise. Just frustrated and disappointed I won't be getting more obc. :(

cathyz Posted August 29, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2013 Price drop OBCs are just a perk, not something one should plan on. We book ES all the time and have only had price drop OBCs a couple of times (of course I'm not obsessed with watching for them either). We book a cruise at a price we're willing to pay, possible price drop OBC or not.

I've been stuck at the same rate for awhile but am more than satisfied with the price I paid for my cabin. Just remember you said you thought you'd be getting MORE obc so you've obviously have benefited from Carnival "giving" cabins away at this cheaper price. Enjoy your cruise and the obc you have stashed away already!:D
Mrs.G's Mr.G Posted August 29, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2013 I am curious, how do you know that Carnival is giving away free cruises? Or is the price so low that they are PRACTICALLY giving them away?
cruizinisthebest Posted August 29, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 29, 2013 I doubt they are giving them away like you state. Price drops are a bonus. Good if you can get 'em. Oh well if you don't.
wantocruisemore Posted August 29, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2013 Just curious, but what cruise are you on? I know I have never managed any OBC or price drops with Carnival but I make sure I am pleased with my rate when booking. For my cruise next month it was such a bargain that we decided at the last minute to book, it it was almost free.

lovebelle Posted August 29, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 29, 2013 I haven't seen a price drop is almost 5months for my cruise. But Im thankful for what I got ($100 off final payment no OBC), cruise is still 8 days away but no rate drops since final payment either. But hey, that the way the dice rolls when a cruise is selling really well. In fact I have never gotten great rate drops when booking ES, but I still book the rate "just in case". Im still pleased with my rate and feel I got a great deal.

Also on the roll call for my cruise a few people said they got an offer for a free cruise from carnival and they picked the cruise I'm on. That's how I know they are giving them away... otherwise I wouldn't have known.

Actually, yes they are giving them away... all they have to pay is port fees and taxes. Here is one thread about this. Also some have stated on my roll call they got it free.. jonbgd Posted August 29, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 29, 2013 Once Carnival went to ES and the limitations I gave up worrying about OBC. I pay what I want to pay for that cruise. No upgrading cabins is a different story;)

More than perhaps some of the gamblers. I'm not mad.... I just like getting the extra bonus of obc, and hey, I booked the early saver with all the restrictions so yeah, I think I should get to look forward to a chance to get obc. If my cruise sells out because people are buying up the rooms, no biggie! I got the best rate possible. Yet, if they are giving them away, then no so much. You don't like that Carnival is giving away free cruises in your category because you can't get OBC, but you don't care if they give free rooms away in other categories? What about the people that booked the other categories? You'd rather they didn't get any OBC as long as you do? There is a guy on my next cruise who got an aft wrap for less than my interior. Frustrating yes, but I don't spend any money in the casino unless I am buying a drink at the bar. I am no economist or business man, but Carnival would not give a cabin away unless they are confident that they will make up the lost revenue somewhere else. So in the end, I am sure Carnival makes money off of guests like the free cabin people and cruisers like you and me. To put it in Vegas terms......."The house always wins". Enjoy your cruise, it is the best vacation value that I know of.

Or is the price so low that they are PRACTICALLY giving them away?[/color'] People come on this board and brag and brag about it. That FREE cabin...ha. They will drop thousands in the Casino. So they pay. NOTHING is free. nothing. It ended my OBC drop too but I had already reaped a bit. Is this the SEPT. 14,2013 Sailing on the Breeze? One day they oodles of Cove Balconies...the next day.......none. And again..They pay. Just in the casino. My DH goes there too..and some of the people there........well, it is their money.they made it. It is their fun. But he better not do that. He takes a set amount of money..when that is gone it is gone. And he only plays the tables on cruises. And he is quite lucky. And not a fool. He knows that gambling in the end..seldom pays off.
