The Big Pink Bear On Quantum .... Why?

What is dis all about ? A pink bear??

They initially wanted a porcupine, however it was considered too dangerous.

a...30-foot-tall magenta polar bear. The sculpture, created by artist Lawrence Argent, is titled “From Afar” and is part of the ship’s 2,980-piece art collection. The 8-ton bear, made up of 1,340 stainless steel triangles, is situated on an exterior deck of the ship.

And that same ship has a big red dog overlooking the promenade. On our last cruise on the Liberty the college kids had fun with it. Everyday it was in a different place.

Not odd. Not strange. Royal Caribbean ships are actually known for their artwork.

It fills the staircases.

Look at the pool deck of the Mariner of the Seas.

Why not ask, "What are these Britto sculptures doing there?"

Why have a car in the middle of the Royal Promenade?

I think the bear is rather cool and unique. With that said, when I first saw it, I was a little surprised, but it definitely grew on me!

at first I was like, HUH? but I now I like it.

I just happened to sit by a cruise travel writer last week while I was in Barcelona. She was in Germany for the Quantum reveal. I asked her about the big bear. She said it is the entrance to the Seaplex. It makes it easy to find. You walk thru the legs.

I think its cute (maybe a little bit big). except for that pink splotch on his nose ..... it looks like someone shot him in the face ....

But I also wonder whats gonna happen when that ship hits rough seas ... is it gonna be "Bear Overboard!!" ??

This is old news and has already been discussed ad nauseam on another thread.

I think it's fugly but I don't care. It's not my boat. I just sail it for fun. Can't wait to see what they come up with for Anthem and Ovulation, I meant Ovation.
