BE AWARE! We were lied to! We were told that we had a 7 day cruise with 4 ports. We did 2 ports and got 40.00 back for the other 2 ports we didn't do!Valor and Liberty same itineary they got re routed! Thankfully we went with a group of 20 ages 1-60 and made the best of it! When we were told that about cozumel ok fine but when we were told the night before we need to arrive in Roatan that we are staying at sea we were all pissed. they just finishing selling me excursion tickets at 5pm for roatan just to cancel roatan a t 6. When we left belize we were doing circle after circle after circle in the ocean and at 10 knots while the valor had passed us at sea as they left belize! So they can make it to there next port of call. We were so upset because no one had answers as to why we were staying at sea. We all paid 900.00 and at least 50% of the passengers rallied in the middle of the ship about what we can do to come as a whole and get our money back! Nothing was out of control as a matter of fact a few young men started the rally with an older woman and was explaining to all 500 plus people if we can act as aduults and not get out of control. We all did that. We were all standing while they were talking about how are some possible ways we can fight carnival (the corporate part) not the physical ship! We understand that it's not the crew or captain's fault but a 14 billion dollar company can't accomadate us or give us any compensation! this cruise was horrible and it should have been advertised as a circle belizean sea cruise with grand cayman bonus! It was not right that we only got 20.00 each port back. That was a huge insult. and to top it off security was all over the place acting like we were hostiages!!!! Following the poeple who had a petition going around and the people who spoke got videotaped and later that night got a threatening letter from the Captain!

Cruise from HELL!!!!

Be Aware if you think you are going on a 7 day caribbean Cruise you are not you are going on a circular booze cruise to belize with a bonus stop in grand cayman!!!!!!!!!

Before you left did you look at the updated itinieraries?? It could be the water was too rough or the other ports were cancelled for some other reason. Hopefully someone will post who was on your cruise.

We just got back today from Conquest, which did 2 ports, but I knew about the 2 ports before the cruise left. We were also handed a letter at the port saying we could cancel even at the port if we were unhappy with having only 2 ports. Im assuming Carnival would have handed you a similar letter when you were boarding?

port cancellation policy is $20 per port. If you had read the terms before your cruise, you would have been a little more prepared. I missed Grand Cayman last fall during the Ike cruise, so already knew about the $20 per person refund. We missed Galveston and got nothing back for that, so Id say you did better than we did, at least you came back to the port you left from.

This way you know what their policy is if you ever want to book another cruise. Sorry you are unhappy, but I know Carnival was very upfront with us. We returned today.

http://www.carnival.com/CMS/Static_Templates/Port_Cancellation_Policy.aspx

If safety, scheduling or other concerns prevent the ship from calling on an alternative port, Carnival shall promptly provide written notice of the elimination of the scheduled port to the guests as well as announcing the change in the Carnival Capers and via the public address system. The written notice shall also offer a shipboard credit of $20.00 (U.S.D.) per person to be reflected on the sail and sign account.

It was reported on the board that Valor did not go to Roatan either due to civil unrest that developed on the island. Someone emailed Fins & Flippers and they were told that the ships were not docking to the "civil unrest" but things have calmed down now.

There was civil unrest in Rotan, what would you have them do? Drop you off and pick you up later in a body bag? I understand you feel you were ripped off but they had the safety of passengers in mind.

First, I feel for you. We are on the Legend next week and I don't want that to happen to us, however, what was Carnival to do. Take you to Roatan in the middle of civil unrest and risk have you, crew or other passengers getting hurt or worse yet killed? Instead of being P O'ed you should be grateful. I don't think anyone lied to you. If you read the cruise contract it is spelled out that while they will try to get into the posted ports, they can change itinerary at any time for any reason. They, and other cruise lines, don't usually cancel unless to not cancel will put their guests and crew in danger. Like I said first, I feel for you. We were offered the opportunity to cancel to a later date but declined. How about you?

It was reported as a civil unrest many days prior. Carnival knew about the situation.

Apparently civil unrest in Roatan can end quite unexpectedly - it was known for a while, but they had no idea if it would end in time to be able to go.

I'm sure the OP was disappointed, but really....cruise from Hell? They said you made the best of it....cruise from hell would be if someone died!

We sail in a month, and have already been advised that COZ is no longer on the schedule!:)

If there is an 'uprising' or 'civil unrest' in Roatan on our scheduled stop, I would hope that the Legend continue on past the port, and head for open water!:D We know the 'contract' and what CCL 'can' do, and what they 'pay'.. Looks like they did everything right so far..

Good luck with getting anything 'back'..:p Who knows, you may get lucky.. ;)

Gotta love these "passenger rallies". Sorry Op, 500 people is a riot waiting to happen when they are unhappy. One wrong word and all hell would have broken lose.

As others have said, had you read your cruise contract you would know they can choose not to go to ports "for the safety of their crew and passengers".

I am sorry you weren't happy with your cruise, but be grateful all 20 of your group are home and in one piece.

!!!!!!!!

I'd love to see the text of your letter from the captain. I imagine it said something like "Shut-UP!"

A setiment I echo wholeheartedly.

I swear people would rather be killed then miss a port. I don't get it. I assure you Carnival would much rather have you off the ship at your port then on there complaining about how horrible you are being treated because they are keeping you safe.

You got exactly what you should have gotten back $20 per missed port. It's spelled out in the contract YOU signed. I can't believe you would waste your cruise with stand in trying to get $$ back and signing petitions. That ruined your cruise much more then a missed port did. Instead of having fun and making the best of it. You were caught up in the poor me drama.

If we go and have to miss all ports, will I be happy about it? No but I won't stand around pitching a fit when all they are doing is avoiding dangerous ports. I'd rather be disappointed then dead.

I am really confused by the different posts concerning cancelled ports, excursions due to passenger safety. In September I read on Carnivals board about the horrible tragedy that occured in Belize while cave tubing. Passengers were up in arms that because the excursion was booked thru Carnival that Carnival should have cancelled the excursion because of unsafe conditions where the lady drowned. There were posts about Carnival not wanting to lose money on the excursion. Now Carnival is cancelling ports due to circumstances that would put passengers in danger and some are still up in arms. I'm not sure what some people want from cruise lines.

I also can understand your disappointment, but can't see, under the circumstances, what else Carnival could have done. As firefly noted, the $20 per missed port is standard policy (stating so in your cruise documents).

I cruised on the Victory, a ship I'm not particularly enamored with, just because it included Costa Rica as one of its port stops. Civil unrest (violent labor strike at the port) prevented the Captain from RISKING HARM TO HIS PASSENGERS, so he wisely chose to miss this port. I was let down but appreciating the Captain's decision, too. S**t happens . . . :(

Regarding legal action against the Carnival Corporation . . . that was a dream, right ?

I am often quick to criticize Carnival, but you are so out of line that it is incredible.

You missed Cozumel because the US government has said that you should not travel to Mexico unless it is essential. I hate to tell you but a cruise is not essential.

You missed Roatan because there has been civil unrest. This is not new, it has been going on for months and any stop at Roatan is a like shooting craps, no telling what will come up.

If there were five hundred of you in the Atrium, it was a riot and security should have escorted all of you to your cabins. If the passengers behavior is as described, then it was unacceptable.

You got all that you are entitled to by contract and should not expect more.

I feel for you 100%%%%

I am sorry as well for you.

Im taking Legend next Sunday and very upset with whats going on.

I will be honest my wife and I have only taken RCL and have always been happy. Carnival has to improve in there customer service if you ask me and I havent even cruised with them yet....

What I would like to know is why everyone always sticks up for Carnival if a customer has a complaint, whats the sense of this board?????

As a big company like Carnival I wonder why they never have a plan B to make there passengers happy....Just my opinion and I know half of you will rip me apart.......Im in the business to make customers happy as well and I have to do whatever it takes......

I will be upset if Im sitting out at sea just circiling as well, I take cruises to go to the ports...I did not pay over $2300 to sit at sea and visit 2 ports if thats what happens.....

Just for the record, I was in Roatan about 3 weeks ago on Voyager. RCL was back to doing Roatan, so I dont think the unrest has been that bad for months. We had a ball there, I admit it.

Carnival has been doing Roatan again too. I think it was itineraries this week that were impacted due to a resurgence of the unrest.

Quite frankly, I understand the OP frustrations. May not agree with it, but I do understand it. The $20 come from port taxes paid, not out of Carnival's pocket (it's a port tax refund, not their loss). For those that tried canceling, the operative wording is "tried". Carnival was inundated with phone calls. I know a couple that gave up being on hold for almost three hours. They tried again the next day and experienced the same. Essentially, they couldn't cancel because they couldn't contact Carnival. Did anyone compare the new Legend itinerary with the other Florida departing ships? Things like drop Cozumel, add Key West or Ocho Rios, double up Grand Cayman and etc. So what's the Legend, ground hamburger? Although Carnival has the "catch all" clause, I feel they could have done something else such as Spa price reductions or $2 Drinks or something. Instead they came out with "fend" and "deal with it" or whatever. JMHO
