I have a pizzelle maker that my great-grandmother had with the family name on it.  I would let you borrow it but you have hold the iron plates over a fire.  My great-grandmother must have had some strong arms, that thing weights a ton.

I have a more modern one that runs on electricity and I make a few batches at Christmas time to give out.

Growing up, we used our kitchen table to eat, play games, do homework, etc., etc.  Years later when I married and had a dining room in our house, I still felt most comfortable in my kitchen where our daughter grew up doing her homework.  I even had a plaque:

"No matter where I serve my guests it seems they like my kitchen best".

My MIL has this same saying in cross-stitch.  I think she said her mother had it in her kitchen.

My oldest daughter’s family is headed to Disney today and will be there through Christmas. To "help" Santa out, our SIL called Santa and told him.  So Santa decided to come early and they opened gifts from Santa yesterday morning!  Zander and Corrie were so happy and now Santa doesn’t have to find them at Disney!

How exciting that Santa came early!  As a teenager my dad and his SO took our bunch to Disney for Christmas.  I can still remember running through the park on Christmas Day.  We were old enough to roam without the parents and back then no one, at least not on a rainy Christmas Day went to the parks on Christmas.

@DaniDanielleSorry to hear about your granddaughter.  What a disappointment that she will miss spending the holidays with with the family in NC.

My FIL just found out that his neighbor has covid.  The neighbor had a small holiday get together on Sunday and now I would imagine everyone who attended is probably in a panic.  I know FIL got boosted, not sure about how many shots the neighbor had.  FIL's doctor offered to test him.  Even though RI opened extra testing this week he couldn't get an appointment.

@Momof3gurlzHope the little one recovers quickly.  And she did.  Must have been all those good wishes that protected her from getting sick!

@ReneeFLLI was thinking of you this morning when I was watering my orchids.  One is florishing and sending out a new flower shoot.  The other one, well, not so good.  It is down to about 3 leaves.

I also have a question that you can probably answer.  What is the piece of equipment that is supposed to circulate/provide air in the plane's cabin when the plane is at the jetway?  I had to fly to Florida two weeks ago for an unexpected trip to check on my mother.  The plane had absolutly no air circulation and we spent a total of 2 hours sitting in that test tube between waiting to takeoff and then picking up more passengers in BWI and then a 45 minute delay.  Pilot kept us up to date on what was happening and apologized for issue but you could tell he was annoyed at the situation.  At one point the FA checked the air temp in the cabin.  It was a cozy 85 degrees and she was in the doorway.  That meant it was probably closer to 90 in my sunny window seat.  The airline will remain nameless but I bet Greg will know which one.😬   Only upside is that they responded to my sister's complaint within 24 hours and offered a voucher which covered about 75% of the total cost of the RT ticket.

Ok, so I typed all that last night and it went poof.  Now here it is, the gremlins at CC sure are busy.

I usually get to scrape ice off the windows at least once. This is a winterless year for us.

Oh Mimi,  I feel terrible that you will not have that opportunity.  For us northerners we get to enjoy this task about 120 times each winter.  I will be thinking of you as I try to avoid frostbite this winter!

  3. DH and I got our Pfizer booster shots about two weeks ago, two days before we were scheduled to do our GE interview in Boston.  Fortunately, the only side effect was a super sore arm the next day.  I must not have done enough fist pumps when I got back to work after the appointment.

About the Alaskan weather, our best man moved to Alaska about 30 years ago and currently resides outside Juneau.  He and my husband, who has visited him several times in May, both think that the weather typically resembles our weather here in NE.  DH brings clothing that can be layered.  On the last trip they took a plan to a remote island with a bare bones cabin onsite.  The three of them spent the weekend there with no electricity and no heat.  DH and his dad would love to do it again.  I wouldn't consider it myself.  I am afraid of bears, lol.

Our squirrel story took place in Florida.  We were walking through Sea World and there was this one particular squirrel stalking my husband.  It was funny until it tried to climb up his leg at one point.

Sad about the fire.  My daughter's friend from HS's family home burned to the ground about three weeks ago.  They were living with his parents and have a 5 month old baby.  I can't imagine how scary it would be to wake up and realize the house was on fire.  They were very lucky to get out but lost the family pet.

I had the same dentist for 49 years. Since I was 12. He brought on a new younger dentist before he retired. I've seen him twice now, and I don't really like him. He just pops in and out during appointments, his hygienists do everything, and he always wants to do "extra" things that will cost additional money. I don't know what we are going to do. We plan to move to the other house eventually and will probably just tough it out until then.

My husband had the same experience of having a good family dentist for almost 45+ years.  The old dentist sold his practice to a younger dentist.  After a few visits he complained of the same thing as you.  Wanting to do some crowns or trying to selling some extra  service.  I had been telling him to switch to my dentist of 20 years but you can't force a horse to drink water, lol.  Coincidentally, "my  dentist" was his former hygienist who worked for his former dentist.  When I needed a new one my DH suggested seeing her.  Then, right about the same time DH switched practices, the hygienist who worked with his old dentist also got tired of the up sells.  She came over and joined the practice too.

I'm sure he did hear them.  Believe💕

My husband always told our son, when he questioned whether Santa was real, "those who don't believe don't receive.  He would keep his mouth shut after that.

@DaniDanielleWhat a difficult decision it is to let them go.  My sympathy to your son and your entire family.  Just thinking about it brings a tear to my eye.

What a beautiful house! It is so neat and tidy. Everyone seems to have such neat homes. We seem to have stuff everywhere with magazines and things on the tables. And we have run out of places to store things. :classic_biggrin:

Describes our family room and dining room where DH reigns perfectly.  I rule the kitchen table, bedroom and living room where I hang out.  Lot of momentos from trips but no paperwork or magazines.

You've just described our house... I call it: "a house lived in" 😉

LOL, my husband uses that line wheneven I complain that other people's houses don't have stacks of magazines or shoes everywhere.

I did it yesterday too.  Got the same message. LOL

It is $85 but test results take 1-3 days?  Am I missing something with this new service?

This specimen will be delivered to a BioReference Laboratories facility, and your test results will be ready in approximately 1-3 days after your specimen arrives at the laboratory.

I am saying the blower was purposely blowing leaves straight onto my property.

I love it when the yard services blow the excess down the street.  Like where do they think it is going to go?

We did another cleanup yesterday and it looked great until this morning.  We have three Japanese maples along with one small oak that refuses to drop its leaves like all the other trees.  Holdouts every single year.  The oak will have its nice red leaves right up it is forced to let them go for the new growth.

Just love the cat pictures, not only beautiful but entertaining!

  8. @bobmaclibertyThanks for that link.  I was suprised to see the Golf channel on there along with a few of the other favorites. I need to find out how much internet only would be.  I've had no luck getting Cox to come down on anything without having to commit to a 50 year contract.

@Momof3gurlzCould I hire your husband to negotiate for me with Cox?  I always end up on the losing end. I've had no luck getting Cox to come down on anything without having to commit to a 50 year contract.

  9. @bobmaclibertyThanks.  We are good to go then.  I probably should put the paperwork in the car now.  We went to get our boosters yesterday and I forgot my card.  Last time it was the DH, lol.  I did have it on my phone though.

How does the youtube tv work?  Do you pay a subscription fee?  I would love to cut the cord but the DH has an addiction to cable TV.

Our BJ's warehouse offers a free one time day pass to try out the club.

My final payment is coming up this week for the Edge in February.  My dog is doing better since we switched his pain meds and is sleeping through the night.  Hopefully I can keep him out of trouble, he thinks he is a decade younger than he really is.

  10. @Sea DogThat link worked on my win 10 here at work so it should be a ok on the pc at home.  Thanks!

@bobmaclibertyBob, what docs did you bring to your GE appointment.  I have a bill each in our name, the printout with our psaid # (no name, I had to mark down who is who) and was planning to bring our driver's licenses and passport.  This should cover it or did I miss something?

@dani negreanuThe tree price seems high but when you look at the $250 trees you realize just how fake some of them look with their plastic needles.  I saw one online, granted it is 18 feet tall, for $4000.

  11. @yoshiWhat an incredible picture your son took.  I like how you get a real feel of the church in whole vs. my single window pictures.

Norris, funny you mention the river cruises vs driving.  I got hooked on the idea of a river cruise but as I researched it more and more I felt driving rather than cruising would allow us to get a better feel.  We were planning to go in 2017 but then when we found out that my husband's cousin was to marry his Irish girlfriend in Sligo, Germany was pushed right off the stove.

  12. I can't wait to go back and spend more time wandering around.  We were a bit rushed last time around and we probably wasted 30 minutes trying to find out how to find out if we really had tickets (computer froze up).  A kind attendant listened to my tale of woe and allowed me to talk to clerk at the ticket window and lo and behold, she found our tickets stuck in payment limbo.  I quickly whisked the cc out of my not so hidden pocket and minutes later we were entering the incredible beauty of the Sagrada Familia.

If my turkey saw that it would jump out of the pan and head for the door.  Do you inject it all over or just under the brea** meat?

  14. @grapau27 Pauline not only dresses herself beautifully but she can really transform a tree.  The angel looks very similar to the one we have for our tree.  We bought it on our honeymoon half price.  It had a burnt out bulb that DH was very confident that he could fix.  He did but I was worried she had more issues than that.  It paid off, I will never replace her.

@reallyitsmemaThat stinks.  I have a cookbook with the most delicious looking lemon meringue tarts on the cover.  What about scapping off the topping and trying again.

  15. We will be having a feast at my MIL's house tomorrow.  Both she and her SO are fantastic cooks so we will not starve.  I like to have turkey sandwiches with all the fixings but due to the vultures (us included) there isn't much turkey leftover so I will roast one up.  Well, a half turkey since it is just 3 of us.

Normally, I would buy a turkey at Stop and Shop but would end up tossing some of it because as much as I love the sandwiches, by day three I am good until the next year.  I like the white meat and the smaller birds have more bone than meat. About 5 years ago, my MIL told me to ask them to split it.  She really is a good MIL. So each year I would find a nice 20 LB bird and get it split.  Well, that all came to an end at Stop and Shop this year.  They shut me down.  The youngster said "it is frozen".  Well, it is always frozen.  He then replied they don't even have a saw.  All of the meat is prepackaged.  I went home empty handed.    MIL, once again, said try Market Basket (newish store to area and since I hate to look for things in an unfamiliar store) I hadn't ventured there.  I did and although I payed the fresh turkey rate I got what I needed.

So, the bird is now taking a luxurious bath in an aromatic brine.  Hopefully that white meat will be super tasty tomorrow.  Worse case scenario is that it will not be dry, unless I have the same stove as @reallyitsmema. All bets would be off if the oven caught on fire.

  16. @HBE4 that was a close one for sure.  I just sent my knives out for sharpening and managed to put a slice into my thumb the day after I got them back.   Knife was the counter and I barely touched it.  Then the following week I was washing a few and once again one of them got me.   Hardly  felt a thing, at least for 5 minutes, then the throbbing began.
