  1. I made the chicken with lemon, kale, and rosemary today.  Oh, that was good.   I substituted chicken breasts as I don't care for thighs and I added some mushrooms to the mix.   I also used the little red potatoes as I read somewhere that they have more fiber.  I wish I had made more.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't wear a mask if those were the rules I agreed to.  I was just wondering what changed between the first cruise when masks were not required and then the third or fourth cruise when they were.

We learned more about the Delta Variant and how vaccinated people can transmit the virus.  The CDC came out with guidance saying masks should be worn in indoor places vaccinated or not.   As we learn more, we adjust what we are doing to protect everyone's health.  Personally, I like that HAL is doing what they are doing to keep me healthy.

  3. Good morning, everyone!

@grapau27 A very happy anniversary to Graham and Pauline.

I stayed up way too late last night and will probably go back to bed for a nap this morning.   We received notice last night that our boarding time was moved up to noon from 1:00 pm.  Sounds good to us!

Today's meal sounds good to me.  It reminds me a bit of the pasties in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  https://food52.com/recipes/76077-new-zealand-style-beef-cheddar-pies

I will not put myself on the care list.  It may be 2 months before I have any results which I would consider a good thing.  If they do find something I would likely know earlier but anything found should be easily treated.  I might spring for the rotation.

Well, maybe you won't but the rest of us can.

  6. @AncientWandererI'm glad you recognized Sue, sometimes called Susie by her family.   You'll be able to see us on the ship!

Oh yum!  More food!  Sure looks good.  How do you both keep your stylish figures?

That was my question.  I think I gain a few pounds looking at the pictures.   But, I did buy chicken and kale today.   I'll cook it tomorrow.

I think the chicken dish today looks great @dfish.  Cute photo of you and your many sisters!  Do you have any brothers?

Thanks, Sandi.   I have three sisters and one DSIL.   In the back, left to right are:   Lauren (SIL), me holding baby Lizzy, Barb (S), Sue(S).  Seated in front left to right are:  Niece Kourtney, nephew Matt, Mary Jo (S) holding niece Emily.  I do have two brothers but they refused to be photographed with us.  They were muttering something about crazy sisters.

  8. Good morning, everyone!

We are in for a very  nice day here in northeast Ohio.  Sunshine all day and moderate temperatures are just what we asked for.

I'll definitely celebrate the Honey Bees.  Many years ago my sisters and I bought yellow and black striped shirts as a joke and celebrated honey bee day.  My mother refused to be seen in public with us.

I'd say Senior Citizen is my day, but I'm holding out a few more decades.   Who, me?

Today's meal sounds yummy.  I'd prefer chicken breasts, so I'd make that substitution.   You could use spinach instead of kale.  Little red potatoes would work as well.

  9. @Gail & Marty sailing away  Happy Birthday to Gail!

@rafinmd I hope all is found to be well.   Sorry about the issues you are having, but that is part of being human and your Daily family can empathize with you.

@mamaofamiI totally agree on only allowing vaccinated people in the house.  Personally, to work as an aide with the medically fragile or high risk population and not be vaccinated is reckless and irresponsible.  And for the agency to send someone out who is not vaccinated is the same.

@Cruising-alongI am totally excited about getting to meet you finally.  Now, let's not jinx it too much.  No broken bones, please.

@StLouisCruisersI am happy that you will be able to pay your respects to Copeland and his son. Congratulations to your daughter from this retired Math teacher.

@Vict0riannMy sympathies on the loss of your friend.

@Crazy For Cats I almost fell off my chair when you said you might be able to eat today's meal suggestion.   Really?    I hope Henri shows mercy.

We will be trying our adaptation of this recipe here at the XBGuy Adobe.  I shared this recipe idea with Mrs. XBGuy, and she thinks the idea is great, and we will make it work for us.  Five pounds of fish is quite a lot for just two of us.  Similarly, most of the other ingredients will be reduced.

One think I love about cooking is the fact that no recipe is sacrosanct.  If you don't have an ingredient, there is no penalty for leaving it out.  If you think you can improve a recipe by adding something that wasn't called out, then add it.

You've got it!   I substitute, leave out, and add ingredients all the time.  The recipe police have never cited me for not following the formula precisely.   I would leave out the carrots in this one.

I think the 10 minutes is how long it takes to put everything in the dish to go in the oven after all the slicing, dicing, sauteeing and such.   Or perhaps it refers to how long it takes to read the recipe and decide what you're going to do with it.

  11. Good morning, everyone.

The new lawn service came by yesterday and mowed the lawn and it looks great.   My neighbor came over and looked at the plumbing that needed to be done and proclaimed them all easy jobs.  Things are looking up!

I have the pool today at 10:00 and then lunch with fellow retirees at 11:30.   Three weeks from today we fly to Seattle.

Today's meal sounds good.  I think I would like the spice combination.   It does call for tilapia, but you can substitute any mild white fish.   I have some cod I might try it with.

  12. @kazu So glad your TA was able to straighten out your cruise.   Let the good news keep flowing.

We've been to Halifax several times on various BHBs.   On our second visit we rented a car and took off for Peggy's Cove.  We managed to arrive before the tour busses and had some good times climbing rocks and such.

I even got a picture of the lighthouse without people in it.

    DSC01398.thumb.JPG.7a8c6aad22a005795d5a9eebde6252ca.JPG

We found a tranquil spot and watched the water for a while.

    DSC01390.thumb.jpg.8b8dd6e3eaf28c7d18eb126faf6b063b.jpg

Then, we drove up to Ryer's Lobster where Sue had fun picking out her lunch.   Unfortunately, Ryers is no longer allowed to serve on the premises.  It is take out only.

This lobster really couldn't be cooked for lunch.  He was display only and they were planning to return him to his ocean home.

  13. Good morning, everyone!

Last night was a good night for sleeping for me.   I sometimes have trouble due to back issues.  But, salonpas to the rescue!  I'm going to the pool later this morning and then the rest of the day is mine.

My handyman is out for a few weeks due to a broken rib, so I met my new neighbor last night and hired him to fix a small leak under the kitchen sink and do some other things.  He's saving up to start his own plumbing company and welcomes the side jobs.

Today's meal comes with several varieties.  You can just have asparagus, or you can tomato or mushroom additions.  One recipe even had bacon.   It is an easy meal and comes together quickly.

    The plain asparagus:   https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/asparagus_frittata/

  14. Good morning, everyone.

@Mr. Boston I am so sorry to read of Marcie's passing, but take comfort that she is no longer suffering.

@rafinmd I am delighted that you had a good night last night. You might find today's meal will slide right down.

Last night was another of those sleepless nights.   I had to get up because a lawn service is supposed to come by and give me a quote.  The one I've had for 8 years decided to dump customers and I was one of the lucky ones.  One lady had been with them for 15 years.

Today's meal looks so good that I might have to go get an Instant Pot.

  16. @lindalerI am so sorry about the loss of your service dog.  Yes, they are family members and we will always miss them and their unique personalities.  The teddy bear sounds like a wonderful idea.

@jimgev I feel for your wife.  The front line health care workers are taking the brunt of this horrific pandemic and not getting much in the way of help, recognition or respect from those who could do that.  I loved the news story about surgeons pinch hitting at nurses aides in some Texas hospitals.  It is good for them to do that.  The nurses in Columbus, Ohio posted a bill board about the bonuses the CEO (almost a million) and COO (about a half million)  of OSU Wexner Hospital got compared to the bonuses front line workers got ($0).

@rafinmd I'd love to see the menus from Crystal.  Also, I wish you well with the root canal.  I am sorry you are having to go through that.

@StLouisCruisers I am so sorry for Brenda.  Losing her brother on top of Copeland has to be extremely difficult.  When you can, let her know we are all holding her close to our hearts and feeling her pain.

@Norseh2o We will definitely keep Wil in our thoughts and prayers and pray for his safety.

  17. Good morning, everyone!

It was so nice to wake up at home today!   I always sleep better in my own bed.  Although, the second best is on a BHB.  25 days!

Today is the pool and the grocery store afterwards.   I did a decent job cleaning the house before I left.  I love coming home to a clean house and that is a tradition.

Today's meal sounds scrumptious.  The comfort food I turned to during the quarantine days was Stouffer's Lasagna.   There is just something about the pasta, tomato sauce and cheese that brings warm feelings.
