  1. Aloha. We always have enjoyed Celebrity having sailed on its first ship the Meridian in the 1990s and then on various ships and itineraries in the Caribbean and Europe but not on the Edge class. I have been reading about some disappointments in food quality and menu cutbacks including but not limited to my love for prime rib lol and lobster. I do not know what to make of it however. We did a princess cruise from hawaii visiting the islands and then to polynesia visiting the south pacific which we enjoyed and of course NCL Hawaii. It truly is a matter of personal choice. I love days at sea including transatlantic so I think your idea of the days at sea and the Edge voyage is certainly an “appetizing” idea. Keep us posted!
  2. Aloha. It is fascinating how each island has such a unique character and charm that there truly is something for everyone. Having been born and raised in Manhattan, we find Kauai to be too laid back for us lol. The big island is wonderful but it rains to much on the Hilo side and Kona can also lack in energy. We will sometimes fly to Maui for a few days but we love Honolulu because the vibrancy aka craziness reminds us of Manhattan lol. Also the variety of restaurants provides a real comfort level. All of the above being said it truly is paradise. Enjoy!
  3. Aloha. Forgot to mention we did sail with Princess one time and had a great experience. Enjoy!
  4. Aloha. We are blessed to divide our time between hawaii and new york. For a first time visitor a cruise is an excellent way to sample the islands and their individual diversities. It is a less cumbersome way to vacation in my opinion then to waste half days of air travel between the islands. Factor in the air and hotel costs, transport between hotels and airports and of course meals and it is competitive but a cruise is less tiresome. That said, we did cruise on NCL a few times and the Pride of Aloha, Pride of America ships with their differences from the mainstream cruise lines did leave a lot to be desired. It is an individual choice. As for air, it really depends on where you leave. We use Hawaiian from Kennedy nonstop to HNL. I get to sleep and the service is fine. United flies from Newark but with points we get upgrades and I believe the service is better even the first class experience at times we avail of it is better. So I think in summary the ability to reduce inter island air is a major advantage. Whatever choice you make, the islands are spectacular. Enjoy!
  5. Aloha. Not to be alarming and I am not a physician but my parents traveled the world by sea and my dad had a heart condition. I would definitely speak with your doctor and possibly a cardiologist. I would be remiss if I did not reply. Please keep us posted. All the best.
  6. Aloha. We have been blessed to stay many times at the Cipriani.
  7. Aloha. I respect your opinion. I suggest you move to Hawaii or at least divide your time as we do. It is much more laid back here which is why we love it. And we also miss Alan Wong. We enjoy Hy’s though which has more of the NY feel and when we do a staycation the Halekulani. Grew up watching the WTC being built then when we got married lived in BPC and would dine at Windows regularly. Respect your thoughts but I’m sure many would love to have our problems. Be well and all the best.
  8. Aloha. With all due respect being born and raised in Manhattan, it is the proper way perhaps you should be grateful to be blessed to experience what you are able to. I really believe it is all in jest. And by the way, I have been to all the restaurants you have mentioned. Have you been to Le Bernardin?
  9. Aloha. Love your food pictures. So 35 years ago i wanted to take a cruise for our honeymoon. the mrs said no…we are going to spend 10 days st. maartin….having been there several times i knew we would be bored out of our minds. We have to stay at mullet bay because “everyone is staying there”. We are from NY . Me from manhattan, she from brooklyn. Im not arguing…. the only exciting part was a french restaurant on main street which was excellent ate there a few times. Was there last year. Still in business. Anyway fast forward mullet bay was destroyed in a hurricane shortly thereafter and i think the carcass of the resort is still there. Have been there countless times since including during an eclipse on the anthem of the seas in August 2017 where they handed out special glasses. not much has changed and then sad to say another devastating hurricane right after. Love the island but only for a day at a time lol. Sorry but i keep reading and seeing pictures of st. maarten but i love the food pictures! By the way grew up right by katz deli! Enjoy and thank you again!
  10. Aloha. Thank you again for taking the time to post along with pictures. As I have posted before we have been blessed to have seen the world both by land a ships and your reports bring back great memories. Your posts and thoughtful and not self centered nor so you laugh at other guests standing in the rain nor your status on HAL. I also enjoy Richs posts and as I always say food pictures so keep smiling and have a great voyage! All the best.
  11. Aloha. Thank you for taking the time to post reviews and especially food pictures!
  12. Aloha. It is an acquired taste lol. In Hawaii it is a state dish. Even a local McDonalds on Kalakaua Avenue has a breakfast with white rice, spam and scrambled eggs. I make it when in NY. Some people think i’m crazy. I will admit it is loaded with sodium so I do not have it often but in my opinion at least try it once. That said, I have never acquired a taste for tofu so we all have issues with some foods here or there!
  13. Aloha. No…sorry I did not elaborate. Back in the days it was routine on Holland America, Greek Line, etc. I do not recall if there was a charge or just similar to having and assigned table for dining service. Nowadays it is probably impossible with the mainstream huge ships but for smaller luxury lines it would do away with the chair hog craziness. That said, i find it happening everywhere at land based resorts no matter the star ratings throughout the world except at the Cipriani in Venice and the Halekulani in Waikiki when we do a staycation.
  14. Aloha. Thank you for your posts. I remember years ago you could reserve a lounge for the duration of the voyage. It would certainly make it easier especially on the luxury lines.
  15. Aloha. Sounds like you are having a great time my Ohana. We have been blessed to have stayed at the Intercontinental in the overwater bungalow. A most enjoyable stay. Enjoy.
  16. Aloha. Have been sailing with Royal since the early 1980s. Besides the financial issues affecting the cruise lines and staffing issues, it is my opinion the ships are so massive that keeping the kitchens flowing properly is an additional issue with quality control. Thus the new restrictions. It is simply a degradation of the overall cruise experience and therefore each guest has to decide whether they want the massive ship experience or not. Ive been on the massive ships a sufficient amount of time to have decided they are no longer for us. Of course we are older so the smaller lines will suit us fine although they too have their share of complaints. Finally, people who don’t know of Cruise Critic and/or are newbies may not even be awre of the changes, degradation, etc. That said, smooth sailing to my cc friends!
  17. And sad to say besides trolls I have found a few influencers on these boards. Celebrity it seems promotes such behavior which I find detracts from the purpose of cruise critic. Sad
  18. Aloha. Enjoying your reports, pictures and appreciate your response to my inquiry. I totally love your outfits and choice of attire. I remember a TA on the Queen Mary 2 and a couple wore victorian era dress the entire voyage. All the best!
  19. Aloha. Wondering if you are a paid influencer for Celebrity or if they upgrade you for your rather extravagant posts and dress lol
  20. Aloha. Loving your posts, pictures and sense of humor. Thank you so much. You are a refreshing soul! All the best.
  21. Yes because I think the poster is an influencer
  22. More legitimate. I am skeptical of the poster. Not of you though.
  23. I am . For that amount of money…it is Queens Grill for me on Cunard which we have sailed many times beginning with the QE2 , QM2, QV. To each his own if I am wrong but although we are blessed to do as he is doing I would not on Celebrity. Let us see luggage, bathroom with toiletries, etc. There are a lot of influencers on these websites. perhaps the money is better spent donating to charities which he may do but Not worth it for the Caribbean which islands no disrespect are a dime a dozen. Same with ports in the Med. I am skeptical and if I am wrong all apologies but…
  24. Aloha. Thank you for the link which provides excellent information.
