  1. Running is not permitted on the promenade deck due to people sleeping/napping in their rooms below. I would think this would be even more of an issue "very early in the morning". I know I'd be ticked off to hear the thumping of someone running above me every few minutes in the wee hours of the day.
  2. I’ve stayed at both, although not for a few years now. Both are great hotels and you won’t do wrong with either one. The PP, if you have booked a harbour view room, has spectacular views and it is entertaining to watch the goings on in the harbour. The bellman in both hotels will take your luggage to the ship; you have to be in the room when they come to pick it up. The PP is between the Waterfront and the harbour, so the views are much more limited at the Waterfront although some rooms have a bit of a harbour view. If the view is important to you, stick with the PP reservation. Check into the loyalty programs for both hotels to see if a free breakfast or wifi is offered. I know I did get a free breakfast at the Waterfront but I can’t remember if that was through their loyalty program or my airline loyalty program (I think it might have been the airline program but wanted to mention it just in case my memory is faulty). The PP is located right above the cruise terminal which is very handy but the Waterfront is right across the street and there is an underground tunnel to the PP/Canada Place. I hope that helps. There are other hotels that are recommended here on CC, by locals, that are less expensive but I’ve only stayed at these two hotels and the Sheraton Wall Centre (we weren’t fond of the Sheraton Wall Centre). I had booked the Auberge for a couple of trips that got cancelled so I’ve not actually stayed there. It’s behind the Waterfront so still within walking distance to the cruise terminal.
  3. Great wave! And my friends passed behind you as it was happening so I got to see them, too.
  4. My understanding is that it is the charge that counts. The method of payment doesn’t.
  5. OP, I just wanted to point out that your free Cruise likely does not need to be in the Caribbean or Mexico, in spite of what the letter says. When I called to redeem my free cruise, I was told it could be used anywhere; it was basically a credit. I used it on a Pacific Coast cruise and upgraded the room. When you call the number on the letter, ask about that. Things may have changed since my experience. Congratulations!
  6. Wow, Mary, I'm surprised (and sorry) to hear that. Would you please provide more details about what happened and where the failures occurred? My trip last year was less than perfect but they rallied very well to make up for delays then. Were some of the issues due to wildfires in the area? I know Jasper has been having a tough time with wildfires...
  7. You might want to post your questions in the Canada/New England forum https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/9-canadanew-england/ instead of the Canada/Alaska forum. For Sydney, I recommend going to Fortress of Louisbourg, although I'm not sure there will be many actors at that time which really add to the enjoyment. Can't help with the fall foliage question.
  8. I call it back bacon. Another term is pea meal bacon if the outside is coated. I don’t know of any Canadian who calls it Canadian bacon but there probably are some who do…
  9. I have tipped the laundry staff in the past by putting the cash in an envelope and dropping it off at the Front Desk.
  10. Log into My Account, Click on My Bookings and select the booking number for your cruise. On the page that comes up, where it says Welcome XXX, about the middle of the screen it gives your Departure port and your Return port. Next to that is a picture of a cabin and in faint lettering (at least on mine) the cabin number shows. I am looking at it right now for my booking and I did book through a TA.
  11. So sorry this happened to you! But the bright side is that you got to enjoy your land tour and most of the cruise! I hope your wife feels better soon and you stay negative!
  12. Wow, it took over a year?! I think I did my renewal in late January (before it expired) so I guess I have at least five more months to go! Thanks for the news about the timing. Not good news but at least there is hope!
  13. Based on what I understood from the news reports, it's a bit of a hike to get see the activity - something like 90 minutes, IIRC. I believe that's 90 minutes one way! Enjoying your reports so far, thank you!
  14. I once saw a family having a tablet and headphones for their child at the dining table in the MDR. I have to say the child was kept occupied and, as a result, well behaved during dinner.
  15. Me too!! Hope everyone on this cruise stays safe and healthy and has a really good time! Looking forward to all the reports.
  16. Bingo and bar events like beer/wine tasting. OP, the credits will show on your folio and charges will be deducted from that credit as they are incurred.
  17. Wow, my experience was that the new time slot was available to book immediately. That’s pretty bad service if it’s not available to book within three days…. Not much you can do but keep checking to see if it’s up. I hope it won’t be much longer.
  18. I'm surprised at that. When I did it (before Covid), the charges showed up on my onboard account and were, as a result, paid by the OBC that was on that account. I didn't request that the shorex be paid by the OBC; it just happened. So, if you were denied, did you have to pay for the shorex via credit card at the time of booking?
  19. I read your other post. It sounds like "The Key" has more to do with Royal Caribbean than it does with Vancouver so I would suggest posting your question on the RCCL forum instead of here or the West Coast Departures forum. I hope you get your answers.
  20. You will pay the full amount. You could try to upgrade to the Elite Beverage Package, once onboard, which would include more expensive wines and alcohol. I believe the limit is $15.
  21. I renewed Jan 14/22 (expiry was in May/22) and just checked the status. I'm still waiting for conditional approval... Fortunately, I have time to wait as we have no plans to leave Canada this year.
