  1. I think that HAL and the Cunard Queen ships have been doing WCs for years.

This WC is new for RCL and, really, out of the realm of their usual cruise itineraries as @Ocean Boy posted.

It could be a one and done for RCL as they tested the waters (no pun intended) to see if such a cruise would appeal to their usual customers.

It seems that RCL ‘s niche is focused on families with the innovations they have put on their ships-water slides, flowriders and promenades with all sorts

    of entertainment.

Financially, the bean counters at RCL may have realized that a WC cruise does not fit the RCL profile.

Of course, this WC will proceed, possibly as an experiment.

I think it will be interesting to read about the WC, with all the port stops and to read about the passengers’s experience on such an undertaking.

Bon Voyage to all on the WC!

For those who may be inspired to go on such a travel adventure, consider other cruise lines that do an annual WC.

  2. @Ocean Boy When work schedules and Christmas dates aligned, my DH and I would go into the City on New Years Day and stay a few days to see a show and go to the Met. Museum of Art.

The decorations were still in place, but the City was much quieter than before Christmas.

We haven’t been to NYC since the start of Covid and other things.

Hoping you are having an enjoyable day despite the crowds.

  3. Wow, Norris!

You certainly have a lot of travel ahead of you!

    Enjoy every bit of it.

I will definitely  look for your review on the Princess boards-a very good way to begin 2024. Although, we never sailed on the Ruby, we took several cruises on the Crown which I think is the Ruby’s sister ship. Photos of the ship in your review will bring back some pleasant memories.

Wishing you and Carol a happy holiday season, bon voyage and many blessings in the new year!

  4. Kelsie-Your kitchen plans sound good and reasonable to adjust what you have now in the kitchen to one that you will enjoy

Open concept is the way to go to give you more open space and connection to the living room/family room area.

We did a reno in 2009.I am still pleased with the design and openness of the kitchen.

We had the “while we are at it “ mindset

so, limited renewal work was done to our living room and family room as well.

If those countertops are not to your liking, now is the time to change them out.

One thing with any house reno  job, and you may have heard this, it usually takes more$$$ and more time.

Hoping you are entirely pleased with the finished job.

Greg-Wishing you and Linda good results for your respective surgeries and recuperations.

Good health is priority #1 as we are limited in our activities without it.

Those remaining cruises you have booked will give you motivation to get well.

I do enjoy reading live reviews and reviews of cruises posted by many on CC.

I read them on many forums, namely those posted on RCL, Celebrity, Princess, NCL and sometimes Carnival.

If there is too much chatter, I scroll past it to read what the OP is posting.

There is a Princess poster @Bimmer09 who writes excellent reviews with

photos of his cruises and travels. The only trouble is, he takes one , possibly two cruises a year, so the reviews limited.

Wishing all who celebrate a very happy Hanukkah!

    Shalom

  5. @bobmacliberty The photos of your daughter’s home look lovely. I think the blue room may be a dining room. I do like that wall with the wallpaper. The floors are beautiful- just needed some TLC to bring out the quality of the wood.

The house is quite an undertaking, but it has good bones and features.

Hoping you will post photos of ongoing progress.

I enjoy looking at homes for sale and home decor. In another life, I might have been an architect or interior designer.

Wishing your daughter many happy days in her new home.

Adding to the Christmas movies posts, here are some of our favorites,in no particular order-

Christmas Story with Ralphie ((You’ll shoot your eye out !)

Christmas Vacation (always hoping that Clark will be able to light up the house and get his Christmas bonus)

Elf ( a little bit goofy, but Will Farrel is the one to deliver that elf)

A Charlie Brown Christmas Story ( Linus’ heartfelt delivery of the Christmas Story touches us every time we watch the movie)

We plan to watch the new Eddie Murphy movie on Prime- Candy Cane Lane. It may be a good one!

We live on a Lane which is a dead end street. Is that the same as a close ? Thinking close sounds better than a dead end street.🙄

    Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend!

  6. @lenquixote66 Lenny- I think  that we all have days like you had with all the cancellations.

Not much we can do about it,but go to plan B,C or ,maybe even D.

I am wishing you and Toby a restful night.

@Sea Dog Greg- Your doctor visits to help with yours and Linda’s health issues remind me of our December calendar. I am not certain how it happened, but we have appointments with hubby’s ophthalmologist 2x with 2 weeks apart. He needs to have laser treatments to sharpen his vision after having surgery this Summer. We are skeptical, but he is going through with it.

We also have Medicare wellness visits, I have routine cardiac tests and annual check up and our podiatrist visits.

Add to the calendar a baby shower, a visit to an ailing friend (hubby’s friend since Kindergarten) in Connecticut and various Christmas celebrations both at our house and family/friends brings us to the end of December.

    All good,even the Drs’ appointments.

It was  good that Linda could get to see a surgeon so soon and get her surgery set. Were you able to see the Dr about the possible hernia situation?
I do hope all the medical issues get resolved for you both in an efficacious amount of time. Difficult to deal with it all at holiday time though.

@Luckynana I just happened to pay our cable bill today. Two hundred, thirty four dollars for phone, internet and TV. This after I adjusted the TV pkg to a level lower than we had. We are limited here in LI with one carrier,Optimum, so the rates just keep going up.

Wishing all here who post a pleasant week where you all feel safe and loved.

It seems that the waving  emoji I used has been cancelled!!!

So,I can use one of these -🙇🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️or🙎🏻‍♀️

  7. @Lionesss Baking for a wedding is a lovely custom. I recall you posting about baking cookies for a wedding awhile ago.

Are the baking requests given by friends, family or through a church?

In our area of NY, wedding receptions are usually done in catering halls. restaurants and ,in our immediate neighborhood, vineyards.

I have never attended a local wedding where homemade baked goods were offered.
Interesting to read about customs from various areas.

Thank you for the post, I am certain that your kolachi was delicious!

  8. To all the veterans who may be posting or reading Dani’s thread, I thank you for your service.

My father, two uncles and FIL served in the Army during WWII and  my BIL served in the Marines with a tour in Vietnam. I am remembering them all today.

Princess has been our cruise line of choice since we took our first Princess cruise to Alaska in 2004.

We are two cruises short of the top loyalty level, but Covid halted that progress and we haven’t been on a Princess ship since 2017.

In Alaska, it is my understanding, that Princess is one of the few cruise lines that has access to Glacier Bay.

When we went, the day of Glacier Bay sailing/viewing was truly amazing.

We always enjoyed sailing the Princess ships We experienced the inaugural years of the Sapphire,Crown and Regal.

The ships are tastefully decorated, there is a calm atmosphere onboard and we always felt the service and staff were exceptional.

I was a bit surprised to see the post about the new Sun Princess with the added features that have never been a part of a Princess ship.

I understand trying to attract younger passengers as the “older” passengers are moving on from cruising days-at least some of them.

It is a sign of the times and change is inevitable.

For those of you who are considering a Princess cruise, I would suggest reading some Princess reviews posted by Amarillo Pescado. She can be found on blogspot.

She and her husband would spend months in the Winters sailing on Princess ships.

Both her writing and photos are excellent.

Wishing all here a pleasant day!

  9. This kind of security check ,most likely, is a Carnival policy.

We have taken cruises on Princess,Celebrity, Cunard and NCL.

We were never checked for drugs etc and never saw a security dog either at the port and never on any ships.

We have sailed from NYC, Ft Lauderdale,Bayonne, Seattle , Port Canaveral and Southampton, England.

To the OP, if you are fed up with being called over before boarding a ship, perhaps you could choose another cruise line and see if you are selected for a security check.

  10. @dani negreanu and @aussielozzie18

I read your posts about the Texas fruitcake and I recalled a good memory.

For many years, my uncle would give my Mom a fruitcake from that bakery in Texas. The cake was rich and loaded with pecans-yum - and candied fruit-not so yum - as I recall. I don’t think the pictures on the tin have changed over the years.

Thank you both for reminding me of something pleasant from my younger years.

  11. @Coralc Social services can set up home care services before discharge.

Medicare will cover a certain amount of visits, as most health insurance plans.

If a person wishes,  they can arrange care on their own by contacting health care agencies.

When my mother reached late eighties and required some care, we were fortunate to employ two local women who were health care aides to help her and us care for her.

It was a private pay arrangement between us and them.

Mom passed at. ninety-three and those two women were our angels.

  12. When I was growing up, my mother took me to see the Radio City Christmas shows during my grammar school vacations. After the shows, we would have lunch at Schraffts’s restaurant not far from Radio City. We also saw the tree at Rockefeller Centre and stopped into St Patrick’s Cathedral before taking the subway home.

It didn’t seem too crowded to me then, but that was ver 60 (!)years ago and as.  a City kid, maybe lots of people around was just the norm.

  13. For those posting here about visiting NYC at Christmastime.

Absolutely correct that the City is beautifully decorated with so many events in so many venues. Also correct that it can be crowded during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

However, I have a tip for a good time to visit.

For many years, pre Covid, my DH and I would go into the City for a three day stay, but we would go after Christmas, usually Jan 1st or 2nd.

The decorations were still in place, but the crowds had diminished.

Although, if you plan to see the Radio City Christmas show, the last performance is usually on Jan1st in the evening.

  14. Dani’s thread just keeps going!

There’s news about a new beautiful grandchild, a beautiful newlywed couple a beautiful new knee and 8 beautiful Christmas trees.

As for us, we shared a beautiful dinner with friends last night. It was restaurant week on LI.

Participating restaurants offer a special menu of three courses for a set price.

    No food photos from me.

But, our dinners were delicious, we had our good friends’ company and the place was packed!

Very glad that we had a great table in a good corner to watch all the comings and goings.

Since it is a favorite restaurant of ours, we were pleased that they had so many customers.

Wishing all here a beautiful weekend!

  15. 25 minutes ago, Sea Dog said:

Yes the bike is new. He did not prescribe one on my other knee.  It basically pedals for me and has different levels of resistance. There is a computer connected to my wi-fi and sends data back to the doctor.

    Very interesting.

Hoping you will report about using the bike/technology as people who are facing a TKR will have info about it to discuss with their doctor.

Hoping all goes well tomorrow for you.

  16. @jagsfan Mimi-I read your post about your cruise and health report.I am very glad that you were able to visit Bermuda as my DH and I enjoy it so

Great idea to arrange a guided tour so you could see so much of that lovely country.

As for getting those health reports. We also get them on our patient portals andI always hesitate to look at them without our family doctor’s input.

They can be informative or concerning, for sure!

Very glad that your Dr had a reassuring report for you and that you are planning another cruise!

@lenquixote66 Lenny-I read your posts from last night and I am so sorry that you went through such a difficult episode.

We worry so much for your loved ones and feel for them when they are ill or facing a difficult situation.

It is only because we love them so much.

Hoping that your daughter gets a reassuring report from the Cardiologist.
Also hoping that you and Toby have a restful night tonight.

@mo&fran I was very glad to read that you are cruising for quite awhile and that you and your DW are enjoying your vacation.

My continued good wishes for your ongoing recovery You have made very good progress with a most positive  attitude.

@Ozark_Kid You shared good news about the custom wheelchair that is coming your way.

    The ramp is excellent.

We installed a ramp in our garage to help my Mom who lived with us and had some mobility issues.

It made it easy for her and us to get her out of the car and roll her wheelchair right up to the door that led into the house. The interior ramp was especially helpful during inclement weather.

Wishing you and your family good days.

@Sea DogGreg-Wishing you a successful outcome of the knee surgery.

That is interesting that your Dr ordered a bike to use for exercise at home after the surgery.

Hoping it aids in a quick recovery for you.

@dani negreanu As others have written, I think of you, your family and friends often.

Hoping that you all stay safe. Wishing that agreements between countries  could be negotiated without so much loss.

I hope it helps, in a small way, to know that many people are thinking of you and praying for a return to normal days where you are with your friends celebrating with a lovely meal.

For all of you dealing with the “white stuff”. you have my sympathy as it is too soon to see those photos of lovely snowfalls.

It has turned very cold here on Eastern LI with temps going into the 30s tonight.

I am relaxing on the sofa with a fuzzy throw waiting for Jeopardy.

    Very cozy at the moment.

Wishing all the posters here good days where you are feeling safe and loved.
