I have tried scanning thru the pages. We want to hire a car for 3 days, then drop off at Lax. Enterprise want $55 for the drop fee and are expensive when you consider we have to pay all types of insurance on car rental. Do you know of anyone else we can use? We prefer Alamo but can't get a quote from San Pedro. Many thanks

Others from Australia have said that they get better rates from there than in the US.

It may be cost effective to take the SuperShuttle to LAX to pick up a rental car--$17/person. After you get to LAX, you would need to pick up the car rental shuttle.

Staying at the Crowne Plaza. Any good restaurants for dinner at the hotel or a close walk. Prefer harbor view. Is there a complimentary hotel shuttle around town? Can you walk to the aquarium? How far to the wine store? Thanks!

If you like Mexican food, Acapulco is close by and on the water. It's not a bad walk and the hotel shuttle may accomodate you if it is not too busy.

Go to Google maps, enter "acapulco restaurant +san pedro ca" then click on the "+" a couple of times and you will see both the restaurant and the Crowne Plaza.

Hi there, was wondering if there was any public transportation from San Pedro to Long Beach? There doesn't appear to be much in San Pedro, shopping, beaches restaurants are in Long Beach. Thought about renting a car for the day, but Enterprise in SP is not opened on Sunday, and not sure what time we will be in on Saturday, but I am sure the office is closed. I can't seem to find any other car rentals in SP. It seems a taxi is about $25-$30 to go from SP - Long Beach. It still might be cheaper to rent from Enterprise in Long Beach and drop the car off at SP, but they charge a $40 drop off fee. So just trying to find all my options. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I am arrivig by cruise ship in san pedro on tue may 13 and need to find the cheapest way to get to this hotel to pick up my rental car. Any suggestions ?

You could take the bus as described above.

But I think a cab would be the best value regarding time/money.

Lots of restaurants near the Crowne Plaza...I like the San Pedro Brewing Co.--which is only about a short block away...but no view. Acapulco would be a good choice for the view--it's right on the water...a couple of blocks east of the CP...

Wine store: "Off the Vine" wine shop is within a couple of blocks of the CPO as well...

600 S Pacific Ave suite #103 (6th and Pacific--two and a half blocks west of the Crowne Plaza)

Aquarium? The "big" aquarium most people think of is actually in Long Beach--across the harbor, several miles away...but, there is this smaller one in San Pedro:

...a bit of a drive ...probably need a taxi--unless you can get the hotel shuttle to give you a lift...

We will be staying 2 nights in San Pedro before our February cruise. We will not have a car, and from previous posts it looks like the Doubletree is rather far (for walking) from pharmacy, grocery, restaurants, etc. and that the Crowne Plaza is better located. The reviews of the Doubletree are better. Any advice? Thanks.

We stayed at the CP last October and had no complaints about the room or hotel The staff was friendly and helped us out a couple of times getting around town. The in house restaurant was another matter, but in all fairness we may have just caught it on a bad day.

We've stayed at the CP twice. No Complaints! Comfortable!

We'll be there again in November.

CP is a good choice.

We've stayed there pre-cruise twice too--it was fine. We walked to nearby restaurants and uptown for some shopping.

We have always gotten a great rate using Hotwire.

Thanks for your reply

Which hotel would you recommend the Crown Plaza or the Doubletree?

Crown Plaza is closer to restaurants, etc.

Have not been here http://www.raffaelloristorante.com/

But have heard others talking about it and the comments were good

Also look here http://www.sanpedro.com/spcom/restur.htm

slo

Also, Wineaux posted a fairly comprehensive list of area restaurants someplace on this thread, most of which are still in business. You should be able to find it if you do a search of this thread or browse through it.

We've gotten both hotels in the past. We think the Doubletree is nicer, and they have taken us to restaurants at no cost in their van (just a tip to the driver), but there is so much within walking distance at the Crowne, that is where we are happiest. If we bid on Priceline (as we just did) and get the Doubletree, however, we are fine with it.

We have been to San Pedro several times already for cruises.

Has their been any changes to Angel Gate Park?

Have their been any waterfront changes? Any new restaurants open?

We always come 2 days before a cruise since we drive to the port.

Will be there again in October and November..

Thanks..

Laura

Hi Laura..... The Korean Bell has been renovated and restored, and is so vibrant now with it's beautiful colors. I would add to the restaurant list, in my humble and personal opinion (sorry Mike), Neil's (Italian). It's definitely pricier than Raffaello's, but I think the food is better.

The walk along the waterfront has a new park..."the Harbor Cut". It's between the fire station and the Maritime Museum. When the trees mature, it will be real pretty.

PS... the big yellow hand will be renovated before October, too!)
