Oosterdam and Eurodam are 100% non smoking casinos. No idea why its just a few ships in the HAL fleet since, from reliable sources, the remarks on this subject matter is one of the top complaint on the post-cruise survey from the remaining ship smoking casino venues.

I don't believe any HAL ships have completely smoke free casinos.

yes they do. Copied from the "Know Before You Go"

º Casino – Designated areas for active slot players in Casinos. ms Eurodam,ms Oosterdam, ms Westerdam and msZuiderdam casinos arecompletely non-smoking. ms Noordam Casino is completely non-smoking,with the exception of two nights per cruise

The other ships usually have non smoking nights.

They allow it on the Veendam which I found annoying. Every time I was headed to the library, I choked on the way there.

Agree. Even when no one's actively using the casino, it smells like a dirty ashtray. Not only that, on both the Veendam and her sister Maasdam, sitting on that side of the library could be problematic for me because the smoke smell would seep in from the casino even though there's a door there. I'd be thrilled if they did away with smoking throughout the ships' interiors.

You don't have to walk through the casino to get to Veendam's library though you can go that way if you wish..

On the Koningsdam, we disliked that smoke from the casino filtered down the spiral staircase right into Music Walk & Lincoln Center. It really made those main entertainment centers unpleasant to sit in.

We sailed Kdam twice for a total of 27 days (one was a TA with lots of Sea Days and a very busy Casino) and never experienced what you are describing with the smell of cigarette smoke in the Music Walk Venues. We attended Lincoln Center multi-times and spent a lot of time in Billboard both for Happy Hour as well as pre-dinner drinks!

Casino is indeed smoke free - As long as you don't mind the smell in Horizons (their Crow's Nest ;).

I wish O would go smoke free. But, I'm not holding my breath (or am I?) since we so often see ship's senior personnel in the Horizon's glass cage or down on that one pool deck corner (where smoking is allowed).

Nonetheless, fortunately, O's smoking restrictions are noteworthy.

Does anyone have experience with smoke from casinos on Princess? We're considering an Alaska cruise & have read that Princess allows smoking in the casino. We sailed the Koningsdam in February this year and the smoke from the casino filtering down to the Music Walk & Lincoln Center was as NukeTim described--ruined many an evening for us. Terrible design, and sad that they allow smoking in the casino on their newest ship. Smoke in public indoor spaces is a deal-breaker for me.

We are active gamblers who spent lots of time at the craps table and are both super sensitive to smoke. We did a cruise on one of Princess' newer ships (Regal) and didn't have any issues at all. The casino had other limitations, but smoking wasn't one of them :)

There were some outdoor smoking areas that were noticeable but confined. We simply learned where they were and avoided them after a day or two.

On a HAL note, we are taking our first cruise on HAL (Nieuw Amsterdam) in three days, and are just now considering if the casinos will allow smoking. I know that smoking is a polarizing issue with both sides feeling strongly, but if there is smoke at the craps table, we will simply save some money by not gambling, and learn from the experience by avoiding HAL in the future. It won't ruin our cruise.... But, I'll wait to see how it actually goes before passing judgment on HAL.

In early March of this year the casino on the Nieuw Amsterdam was smoke free.
