I was booking dining reservations on line last night and when I made the reservation for Canaletto, I could not remember if they included a c arafe of wine with dinner . no big xeal frankly and if we want wine, we surely will order it. butt is niggling at me that I cannot remember.

I made our bookings for Pinnacle and Canaetto and might make another for Pinnacle.

I had initially booked to cruise alone but a f riend called me recently and asked if I would like company and she would b ook a ca b in. I was delighted and know my cruuiuse will b e way muuch better for her to be ABOARD. my DH and I sailed a num ber of times with her and her DH. She booked a Npeptune, like we both always do and it was good making our dining reservations So... about wine in C aneletto?

Sail, we had dinner in Canaletto last week, and there was no wine included. You could, of course, order some if you wish. I also booked on line, and checked my statement soon after boarding; the Mariner discount was already posted to my account. Very nice HAL! I am posting a review.

We have never met (wish we could), but I want you to know how much I personally have been heartened by your journey through loss and returning to a life you so genuinely cherished with your DH.

Thank you, Nana. I have no idea where I got the notion a carafe of wine was offered. I;'m eager to read your review.

How was Canaletto? La st time I dined there was on Westedam and that was a while ago.

Nice the Mariner discount showed on your account. I have never had any problems having it applied though I have read here on CC some people had a nuisance dealing with it.

My friend has been to Pinnacle a number of ttimes but never Canalettto so we shall try it. Hope she likes it.

I enjoyed Canaletto; however, my husband wasn't as enthusiastic as I. I love the seafood soup (light tomato broth filled with seafood) and the lasagna. To be fair, my husband wasn't real hungry, and the portions are large. It is suggested you share, but we didn't want the same thing. So I asked if I could have a small portion of the "share" dish. They did that for us, but the portion was still quite large. Lasagna wasn't on the menu, but they have it. The noodles just melted in my mouth, and the sauce was quite tasty. The Tiramisu for dessert was quite delicious. The ambiance in Canaletto isn't special as it is part of the Lido, but it was still enjoyable with wonderful service. I hope you and your friend enjoy.

Hi Sail - I believe you are remembering a few years ago Canaletto briefly included a glass of wine with the dinner, but this is no longer the case.

On a positive note we found the food to be improved last month.

Have a great trip!

The last time we went (Koningsdam) we took their suggestion of one small plate pp, plus one pasta dish and one large plate for two people. It was way too much food for us! We think the Canaletto is OK for a change-of-pace, but nothing special.

On halfacts, the Canaletto menu from the P'dam 12/16 shows only two sections, small plates and large plates. The pasta dish we selected on the K'dam is listed there as a large plate, so I guess we had one small plate and one large plate each. I suggest you order one small each and one large for two people, and if you are still hungry go back and order another small plate. :)

Thanks everyon e for your Posts. Very helpful.

I think you are righgt,d Fd serv mngr about the glass of wine. that likely is where the notion I had in my head came from. I KNOW my friend won't like the diea of huge portions of food b ut shecan push aside what she doesn't want. i don' like hhuge plattefuls either. i'm glad we have the reeservationdfes and we can decide when aboard if we'd rather cancel and not go. we can al. I'd rather have the booki g t han not.

I remember having delicious fish (maybe haddock?)the last TIME i dined there.

May be in the minority, but I think Canaletto has improved over the years. I have found improved cuisine, menu selections, and service on my most recent visits. I ordered the steak one evening and I found it to be better than the beef in the PG. I always think I will try something new for dessert, but the Limoncello dessert is so good that I have not been able to resist ordering it.

Canaletto has their own wine label and I found the Red Wine to be very drinkable and reasonably priced.

Sail, I am pleased to learn that you have another HAL cruise booked and I hope you will enjoy it!

It has been a hard journey trying to get to a place I couldreturn to HAL without my Robert. We had that 'what if' con versation about would we sail without the other if one was left alone. I remember those conv esations and think it is time I sail HAL again. Just that I was able to b ook t o sail alone was big fof me. When my friend decidedd to join me, I was dellighted. and truly am looking forward t o that cruise. :) I intend to enjoy myself, and the lovely dinners we have planned.

I really wanted to try the Canaletto on Koningsdam a few weeks ago since we have never been to it but between all the new offerings on the Koningsdam and the Canaletto apparently being very popular, we could not get in.

(For our charter you could not book specialty restaurants prior to boarding - except for the first night. The rest of the cruise you could book for the same day or the next day only.

Sail, You know much more about HAL and Canaletto than I do. Still, I want to echo Canadarocks' recommendation of the potato gnocchi. Mom and I had it last summer on the Volendam. It was so good I made another reservation for the last night of the cruise just to have it again. Bon voyage!

Question do we get a discount if we book before we leave ? What's the mariner discount ?

Sent from my iPad using Forums

When we you pre book any specialty restaurant, you are charged full price right away on your credit card.

Once on the ship, if you are entitled to a discount, it will show up as a "loyalty" refund.

3 star Mariners get 25% back and 4 and 5 star Mariners get 50% back -- as shipboard credit.

Oh Sails don't I know it! I am so pleased to see you too are finally returning to cruising life. I know how much you have missed it.

I will also be branching out and taking new steps this year. I will be travelling with a friend also. It does seem very weird to travel with someone that is not my Virgil. I was fortunate enough to get a great casino offer for a Neptune suite on a 16 day Panama transit. The deal was so good I just couldn't turn it down. I've never sailed in a Neptune suite before.

I hope you have an amazing journey that catapults you back into cruising often and happily.
