Veteran OBC for Princess- question

Probably not but since you are sailing so quickly it is worth a try. By their rules you have to send a copy of your DD214 to Princess corporate in CA before the cruise. If there are business days before you sail, I would fax a copy of the DD214 and then call them to see if you can get the veterans OBC on you upcoming cruise. The worst they can say is no and you might be able to talk them into giving you the credit now. Good luck. It is a really nice thing for Princess to do for our fellow veterans.

I just saw on CC that veterans are eligible for OBC, we leave in days. Can we bring the discharge paperwork DD214 along and get the credit when we check in?

You may be too late.

I would FAX in my DD214 today and hope for the best, maybe call them on Monday afternoon. Check your cruise account under "Payments & Credits" to see if it's been posted. They will NOT give you the veterans credit onboard the ship. Be sure to black out your social security number when you FAX in your DD214.

Don't wait!!!

Call ASAP to the number listed above by GeeDunk and ask.

AND get the form, grab your DD214 and fax it in immediately. If they won't apply it for this cruise you'll get it on the next one and ALL subsequent cruises.

BTW: it's not just Princess, some of the other lines under the Carnival corporate umbrella also give the benefit (Cunard is one). It's a wonderful benefit for veterans and active military. And it's refundable.:D

As implied above, this is kept on file and once submitted will be applied to all future cruises. Yes, it is too bad if you miss it this time, but next time all you need to do is check that it was applied.

Do check--on another issue we found that data was stored under the Captain's Circle number and if not listed on the booking (I can't explain that) the attached benefits or other data won't show up. A quick phone call fixed it.

FAX it now. Don't wait. After you fax it call the number below (maybe wait 30 minutes or so after faxing). They can apply credit immediately. I never hurts to try.

Tel: 800 872 6779 ext. 30317

No. Call Princess and they will ask that you fax it to them. It's not too late just call and ask them. Also, you won't have to do this again when you book another cruise as it will be in their system.

thanks so much, getting on this today!!! We sail out of Whittier next Saturday, fingers crossed!

If you get it to them tomorrow (Monday) via FAX and then call I expect that you will get it, even though they say the cutoff is 14 days.

I submitted both our applications & DD214s (with ssn blacked out) via email about 1 month out. I sent it by email, with all requested docs (214 + application) in a single email. One of us got the OBC within the week. It took a few phone calls and re-sending of the email to straighten out the 2nd OBC, however if finally showed up in our account about 3 days before our departure.

Lessons learned - if 2 people are eligible, send each person’s request separately with their name , your ship and sail date in the subject, eg

“Request Veteran’s Benefit for Jsne Doe, sailing Star Princess 21 July 2018”.

Follow up with a call during their office hours, the people working the regular call center can’t help you. The people who can work M-F daytime hours.

Consider yourself lucky, because they want faxes and not emails.

A friend of mine and I were chatting about Princess because he was about to leave for a cruise. Veterans' OBC

came up. He packed his DD214, went to the purser's desk, and asked nicely. They needed an OK from Santa

Clarita, but it came the next day, and the VOBC was applied for that voyage.

Might have helped that he was Elite, so YMMV.

It's sad that he became Elite before realizing he was eligible for the veterans OBC.

We have met fellow passengers who did not know anything about the Veterans OBC. Don't Princess or TA ask that question when people book? I know knowledge is power, but people still don't know what they're entitled to. One passenger did go to Guest Services, they had their military ID with them and Princess would not honor it. DD214 or nothing. We carry DH's DD214 and our Power of Attorney with us every cruise. You never know.....

Frankly, I've never had any cruise line volunteer about shareholder or military OBC.

As for your "one passenger"

• Was it US, UK, or CDN active duty ID?

• Was it Reserves ID?

• Uhh… did they ask "nicely"?

I would have expected the purser's folks to at least send an image of an unfamiliar ID to Santa

Clarita -- unless your pax somehow antagonized them into sticking to the letter of the offer.

That's for stockholder OBC because some folks send unredacted stockbroker statements.

MEA CULPA. I thought it was the same. Sent military info initially; has to be at least 10 years or more. Whenever it started.
