Dress code threads:eek: - seen one - seen them all

Along with tipping and smoking threads.

I'm sitting here, laughing though. The only thing my DH complains about is wearing socks on formal night with his outfit! Socks are not a part of our clothing requirements, except for January! Even on informal nights where he just wears a blazer, open collar shirt and slacks, there are no socks!!! I'm not sure I own any.

I hate wearing socks myself...and I hope I can wear my sandles until I leave for my cruise. We just had the hottest day of the year in Calgary on Sept.23. I'm thinking I'll be lucky if it doesn't snow before I leave on Oct.15th:eek:.

A lot of images are blocked at work so I have to remember to go look at posts like these when I get hom (and often I forgot what I was supposed to look for or which thread it was posted on).

This one is funny... and true! I wish I had some duct tape; on the second night one of the kids started howling when they turned the sound off on the computer game he was playing at dinner.

Probably good old Embassy Suites again..I love that shopping center. If we don't stay there maybe we will stay at Elliott's since it is only one night. Regards to Miguel.

You live in a beautiful city. We were there a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have been several HAL cruises and the Tuxes and Gowns seem to be out of place these days. Nice suits for both men and women seem to rule or nice slacks and tops for ladies.Only saw about 10% Tuxes?

Tuxes and gowns out of place on formal night?

Well, you COULD go for the look we seem to favor out here -- birkenstock sandals with wool socks. It's a seasonless fashion statement out here :D

It depends entirely upon the market, the itinerary, the length of the cruise, and the time of year. On the longer cruises, with more formal nights, you'll see a higher percentage of tuxedos. On shorter cruises in the well-traveled markets which attract first time and few-time cruisers, tuxedos will be far less prevalent. And, even still, I've been on a 7-day caribbean cruise where the passengers dressed to the 9s on Formal Nights, with gowns and Tuxedos being about 70% of the clothing choices (dark suits, dresses, and women's pantsuits and combos making up the rest). Then, on the very NEXT cruise (b2b with the first one) I've seen the exact opposite from the passengers ... a much less formal grouping. In short ... it depends upon the cruise, and no to cruises or groups of cruise passengers will be the same.

There will always be people thinking of their cruises and dreaming of that formal night in their tuxes and gowns and there will be people thinking of strolling around in the warm air in their shorts and t shirts.

No one, not a single post in any of the dress code threads, has found fault with people strolling the outside decks in daytime casual wear. It is when that daytime wear finds it's way to the various inside lounges and dining room in the evening that those who are so attired are out of compliance with the dress code.

Please do not confuse the discussion.

In "real" life, DH and I wear jeans, boardshorts, soccer jerseys, etc. My MIL and SIL are *always* bemoaning us for not ironing our clothes, etc.

On the cruise ship, we get the pressing and laundry service, and we "keep to the code." We wear gown/tux for formal night, and dress/polo/slacks for smart casual. And all is nicely unwrinkled thanks to HAL.

Off the ship, we're a wrinkled mess ;)

not just out of compliance but out of place, whether they think so or not.

Because there are so few of them they stand out, at least I think anyway. I guess I notice.

No worries then. I have to say that just the word "compliance" on a vacation scares me but I get what everyone is saying and I think if anyone isn't clear after this thread on where they can and cannot go if they are in business casual on formal nights then there really is a problem.

You can go virtually any where you want on formal nights...just depends on how you personally feel about it. The only exception is the dining room where HAL appears to apply the standard in a very inconsistent way. Believe me, you will NEVER be turned out of or not welcomed in a casino or bar on formal night if you are not dressed as per the 'suggested' attire recommendation.

Of course you notice, Loretta. We all do, whether we admit to it or not. We recognize the difference between daytime casual, evening casual, and formal. And you're right---those who do not dress to the code in the public areas do stand out.

Differences could be attributable to those who view a vacation as a place to relax and unwind vs those who view it an an opportunty to 'see and be seen'. I don't mind the cleavage, but sometimes the glare of all those sunday beads can put me off a little.
