Warning Dream deck 8 aft 9A wraps

If you look at the very first post on this thread, the first picture I linked shows pretty clearly that the deck 7 9A (from a balcony point of view) are the 9A's to go for if your looking for a wrap.

Deck 6 Semi wrap, stops just as the balcony straightens out. 2nd biggest balcony

Deck 7 Full wrap 3rd biggest balcony

Deck 8 No wrap, the 8D is the wrap cabin, smallest balcony

Deck 9 Full wrap, Biggest balcony, but under the lido, is sold as a Cat 8

you just made my day :) How I lucked into 9472, I have no idea, but I am more excited about this cruise than one in a long time. It's like this ship was made to our specs...

- giant balcony, who cares about the cabin - CHECK

- Adult comedy EVERY NIGHT - CHECK

- Laser show with classic rock - CHECK

- Port Canaveral HomePort - CHECK

- Non-smoking sections in the casino - CHECK CHECK CHECK

But my point is, there is technically no such thing as a "wrap" category. As someone stated earlier, since the aft of the Dream is curved, all of the aft cabins could be considered "wraps". The description on Carnival's site of the Cat. 9 cabin is 50% larger balcony, and the Cat. 9 cabins on deck 8 fit that description. And like I said, Carnival will tell you anything to make the sale. They'll tell you that the toilet is made out of gold and the bed is made out of chocolate.

Nevermind.......

bcs when you look at it that way!!!:) I know the balcony on Deck 7 will be fine for us....it will be the biggest one yet for us. We have had aft so we just expected no couch, no big deal....but if I have to fumble over the bed in the middle of the night to find the bathroom:eek:(Not good when you are in your 50's and you gotta go!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Hope my DS and her hubby don't get a lot of noise from the stairwell by their L-shaped cabin??? Other posts on other ships said they didn't know they were there, but have been reading on some it was noisy!!

I think I did state my TA encouraged us not to get an aft on Deck 8. I will have to email her and see if she knew more info than letting on????

I am a VERY light sleeper and we have been near crew stairwells before and never had an issue. We hear the Lido chairs being set up which will wake me up and then I roll over and go back to sleep. I am sure we only hear them since we leave the balcony door open. We're addicted to wraps!

We have a deck 7 9A wrap and are anxious to see any pictures of that also. As far as no couch goes, there aren't any on the deck 7 and 8 wraps on the Conquest class ships because they are only for 2 people. As far as I understand the Dream aft wraps on deck 6, 7 and 8 are only for two. There are no 3 person aft wraps. That's why there is no couch. But, we have had a little table and chairs in our other aft wraps so we're hoping that is true on the Dream.

We need more pictures soon!

Linda

Not necessarily true....we have had several extended aft and aft wraps and they have all had sofas. We often work with our CVS to find one that does have a sofa because we prefer the extra seating space.

So - even if it is a 2 person cabin - at least some of them have sofas too.

yes, I can second this. We were just in an aft wrap on the Pride and we had a full fold-out sofa. Of course, on the Pride, the aft wrap was a cat 11.... but still. There are some aft wraps that sleep more than 2 people and/or have couches.

I understand what your saying and trust me on this, I spent $5000 to find out that the deck plans and the Carnival PVP's are not accurate.

However, my point is, the deck plans should be accurate, there is no reason why they shouldn't be, we are not talking about them putting out a diagram of the plans of a processor here, there is no reason why they cannot show the balconies on deck 8 as half the "wrap".

Actually, now that I stop and think about it, I am going to have to do a little research, but I think NRS 530 covers this.

In the end, the cruise business is a customer service thing, they (again along with every cruise line) gain nothing by not providing an accurate deck plan.

A little story.

I used to be part of a management team that ran a large hotel / casino here in Vegas.

In the weekly meetings we would talk out ideas, the President of the hotel would always ask what can be gained and what can be lost from these ideas.

Now maybe I have a different mindset then the people running the cruise lines, but there is nothing to gain by putting out inaccurate deck plans and only passengers to annoy. Now certainly a large number of the people cruising in these cabins will not have a clue that the balcony is wrong, however the experienced cruiser knows that the 9A's mean a wrap, the deck plans say it's a wrap, the PVP says it's a wrap, guess what, it should b a wrap.

Now we can go back and forth all day long, but seriously, lets not do that, the thread has been good now for 7 pages (maybe a CC record ?) we can agree to disagree and move on ?

jetwet1, I am still waiting for you to tell me what "F deck" is; how about now you add in an explanation of "NRS 530":rolleyes::confused:

Sorry Karen, just woke up :p

The F deck, it's the old adult only deck that was taken away to add miniature golf icon13.gif it also allowed topless sun bathing for women, which meant the place was always nice and quiet (no screaming kids) and we always got great waiter service.

Pretty please let's not get into the whole F Deck thing in this thread people :p

As I said, i just woke up, but off the top of my head, NRS 530 (though it may be 540, need to get some coffee in my system) is the Nevada revised statute that deals with the way the way floorplans are laid out in advertising, I don't know if it would cover this, actually I am wishing I had researched it before mentioning it because I will get flammed for bringing it up, but every state has a false advertising statute that covers truth in advertising and floor plans.

lol karen

F deck is "funnel deck" - the deck that used to exist in which used to feature ladies bathing in the sun sans bikini tops. The topless deck.

the other one, they're gonna have to enlighten me on as well :-)

Okay, thanks for that explanation. I never knew that lol. Jetwet1:

We have booked both 8th deck 9a corner 'wrap's for the 20 Mar 1010 Dream cruise. Haven't cruised Carnival in a while, but thought we would go back for the Dream cruise and especially since the 9a's were available. Seems that we always were in a cabin beside the 'wrap 9a's', admired the huge curved balcony's and was excited to book these cabins with our friends. We're changing now. I think Carnival was deceptive in labeling this cabin as a 9a when we all know they have 'wrap balconys'! We will probably just forget about cruising on a new Carnival ship and go back to our favorite line cruise now. Shame on Carnival. I was told by my TA that 'everyone want's the 9a's now, that's why the fare is more'. I have worked with this TA long enough to know that he would have informed me if this 9a was just a regular balcony. Every Aft cabin on Carnival on which we have sailed has been an 'extended cabin'....yes, nearly 50 percent larger anyway.

I love Cruise Critic for getting the facts!

I read your post a few times and I'm not sure if I understand it. But if you booked a 9A cabin, your balcony will be 50% larger than a normal Cat. 8 balcony. Your cabin may be bigger, or smaller, or the same size. But your balcony will definitely be bigger. By 50%. I'm gonna say this one more time, with emphasis.. A Cat. 9 cabin is like a Cat. 8 cabin, except the balcony is a little bigger..

...any info/pics yet on deck 6 or 7?? :o

If you go to post 148 I give a run down of the balconies, it's a little early to get pictures of the cabins, though we did get to see the a few from the ones on deck 8.

As a side note, we have moved, not so much for the balcony which I am sure Carnival will fix, but because of the layout of the room which is just horrible IMHO.

Regarding deck 6: On the "Hello from Carnival Dream..." thread was the following post (I've asked for photos since we are booked in that cabin next year):

I had 6492... the room was HUGE!! The sofa was nearly seven feet long... lots of storage; the only drawback was the bathroom door would not open flat against the wall. The balcony was large enough for a lounge, two chairs and a table. I am going back on this ship in October 2010 and plan to book this same room:)

I saw that post. Sounds like the deck I should move to, I guess!

Let us know if you get pics!

I have the same concerns. Sounds like deck 6 has a nice size cabin with a big sofa. etc. Would that be an option for you or is it too late? I am booked WAY early so I think I'm going to swap to the 6th deck. I read something about deck 7 having no sofa either, although I can't seem to find that post.

I will do that (and if you get them, let me know)!

We have that one next Thanksgiving - and we will have friends (other CC'ers) in 3 adjacent cabins. If we can get the dividers opened up, we will have a NICE "wrap" ;)

My wife was pissed when i told her about our huge room and balcony not being what we paid for... I'm gonna see what join says about our cabins and see if we can get moved to the ones on deck 6. I think they're only being held by a ta... The ship should be able to kick those holds as long as it's not an actual booking i think thats fair. We both want what we paid for. That's a 9a with wrap.

All the other 9A's are gone for our cruise.

Oh well a couple of years ago I would of been really annoyed by this, I guess I have mellowed, I don't care, we are cruising with friends, we again have 3 cabins in a row, the F deck will have space :D and we will get an 11 wrap for my birthday cruise, so all is good with the world.

Now if I had just shown up and found this situation then yes, I would not be a happy boy.

Oh, our TA called Carnival about this, it seems they know nothing about any compensation, probably down to the time it takes to leak down from John to the front line troops.

Yeah....I called today too! My CVS was very understanding - but she forwarded me to a "supervisor". I got pretty much the same story..."as far as we know those ARE 9A wraps". She even said something about John's blog posting - but then followed it with "we are not sure where he got his information"

So... I am NOT a happy camper!!

Yeah, our TA had the same conversation with them this morning, she ended up directing them to the pictures I posted and John's blog.

There really are times I would like to have a little meeting with the Carnival execs to explain product training to them, but the majority of the ones I know have retired now.

I don't have high hopes with regard to hearing anything of real substance from Carnival, at least in the next couple/few weeks... I hope I am wrong, but time will tell.

As I mentioned previously - they likely knew about this for some time, and if they didn't perhaps they need to ponder WHY they didn't know. (Either way it does not reflect positively on them.)

You would think, in the interest of PR, that they would come to the plate quickly with something...

Granted, to us at least, it seems of high importance - and that's understandable. To them, well... they are a BIG multi-billion dollar company. You can figure out the rest.
