Royal People, Why do the Carnival people???

Recommended Posts

There are several CC members on the Carnival boards who have a severe inferiority complex. That thread was not even about comparisons to RCI. The Op said he had only been on 5 Carnival cruises. Nothing about other lines. Yet, the usuals immediately went in to defense mode and started slamming RCI.

I remember about a year or so ago the RCI boards were pretty vile, while the Carnival boards were much nicer. Now, it's a 180. People have been just plain nasty on that board lately.

Eh, Loyal Royals do the same thing. It's just the reaction to someone with a low post count posting a negative review to their preferred cruise line.

We've seen people who are ticked off because they couldn't bring water on board even after saying they wouldn't worry about the cases of water. That's not even mentioning the plethora of individuals who swear off RCCL because someone else may be sailing at a cheaper price than they are (guess I should swear off ever flying on the airlines again, or staying in a hotel again, etc etc etc).

Something to keep in mind is a low post count generally (not always) indicates that someone is an inexperienced cruiser (like me) and may have exaggerated expectations, or may not take the time to understand all the ins and outs of cruising before embarking on their trip. So take it with a grain of salt and move on. If there is a specific complaint, then try to address it and help them understand (e.g. Tuesday sales are for new bookings only. If you don't care about a specific stateroom and have the ability to make vacation plans on short notice, then hold off on reservations and watch the sales. Otherwise it might be better to spend a little extra and know you've got the room and/or sailing you want.) and if they still refuse to accept it, live and let live. Hopefully they'll find a cruise line that they enjoy.

In this particular case, the Op has been a member since Jan, 2009 and has been on 5 cruises. I agree with the op of this thread. It is totally senseless to immediately go in to defense mode and start justiying your favorite cruise line by bashing other lines just becasue someone else had a bad experience. CC is supposed to be "a community of people who love cruising." Why not just steer him toward a cruise line he might enjoy?

I my self had cruised on CCL but we had a opportunity to cruise RCL last May for a nominal fee. When we first started cursing 2 years ago we thought well we will give it a try but not sure we could take ship life. To our great surprise we loved it!!! and starting booking 2 a year on Carnival because it had more bang for the buck. When we had the opportunity to cruise RCL we thought we would be more impressed as we have always been told they are a higher level.

Well we were sadly mistaken on that front. My DH and I both agreed that if RCL had been our first cruise we never would have gone back for a second.

1. Rooms were tiny (we investigated the whole ship and they were all tiny.

2. Food was very bland in the dining room and the Buffet was just gross

3. There were charges to eat almost every where else.

4. The Casino is in a closed off area and you could not just sit and people watch there like we do on other lines.

5. Service in our room was basically none had to beg for towels and classes

All in all we had fun because we make the best of things but I would never pay to sail on that line again. I am just glad we didn't try them first or we would never have been back.

From that thread : poster is talking about Majesty, 11th May.

Am biting my tongue at making a riposte....

I think that is a very strange thread in its entirety...

I agree and one person on there is obviously just trying to yank the Carnival groups chain. Basically a troll.

You're correct. Every board has their loyals but why does the Carnival group always point the finger to Royal Caribbean? Strange. Yes a one post wonder usually causes this type reaction. The OP got what they wanted.

But that's their take on their Royal cruise. They didn't like it. Are they embellishing their post? Maybe but so what. Let them have their say and move on. Nothing to get upset about.

Most obvious competitor? To be honest, as someone who is just starting to cruise, the prominent names I know of are RCCL and CCL. Other lines come to mind, but none are as much at the front as those two.

If that post was made here, I would have to ask about their comment "3. There were charges to eat almost every where else," or "4. The Casino is in a closed off area..." Other than Johnny Rockets, all the food venues are free. Also, the casino is directly off the Centrum and has a large opening to the Schooner Bar. How is it closed off? What are they talking about?

Thats probably how these sort of threads always get out of hand. The complaints are usually embellished. In some cases, like that one, you have to question if they were actually on that cruise.

Same thing happens here occasionally. It's best to just avoid those threads.

I didnt bite my tongue, already replied :( .. this person couldnt wait to come home ... to Carnival.

I have sailed both CCL and RCCL. I have friends that will only sail RCCL, and have only been on 4 or 5 days cruises because of the cost. They have never had a balcony cabin or fresh pizza at midnight. I cruised with them on a 4 day RC cruise a couple of yrs ago. I had fun because we where together, about 7 of us. Three weeks later i did my 7 day on the Carnival Freedom. I never told them, what they where missing by just criusing on RC. They read CC and they believe all the negative stuff that is spread on RCCL board. I know this because they would say things about Carnival that where not true. I told them the truth, but they wanted to believe the what they read on the boards. They are still sailing RCCL, but i sail 2X as much as they do. I never knock anything usless i have tried it. The best thing about my RC crise was the quest. The food was terrible and i am not a picky eater. In my 18 cruises on CCL i have never had to even look at the alternative menu, to find something i liked, I did on RCCL I was turning the menu over looking for the next page.I kept looking for the lobster, and shrimp cocktail everynight, never did see it not even one night. I never saw so many old people, 85% i am sure. After 10pm the ship was like a tomb, except for the dance club, and they ran us out at 2:00 am. I had never seen a cabin that small in my life (inside). It was a older ship, but i have also been on CCL older ships Fantasy and the cabin was no where near as small. The one thing that sealed it for me , was late one night in nassau, we where docked next to a carnival ship, Sensation or Fantasy or something. I could smell the pizza, and hear the guest having a good time. i wanted to jump ship.. Thats when it really hit home. I wanted to go home..CCL. So by all means, try different lines, but late at night , when you smell the pizza , you will wish you where on the Fun ship, Princess, NCL, HAL.. maybe soon, but i am in no hurry.. Carnival Dream b2b here i come. 10/16/10

From what i have seen with my very own eyes, is if you are a Royal Caribbean cruiser that goes on a Carnival ship and your review isnt 100 percent positive, you will get blasted over on that forum for it by some if you post it there.

One that comes to my mind is when Cruisinmama done a very well, fair, and honest review of the Carnival Pride and was pretty much blasted for it by a few people a year or so ago.

It wasnt even a "bad" review at all. Unfortunately it wound up being locked down by the CC admin though.

I could be wrong but there seems to be some people on the Carnival board that do not want to hear one negative comment on any of their ships. I am in no way implying that the RCCI board doesnt have some of the same type of people though. There just dont seem to be near as many.

I think the term used is "cheerleaders" :)

I thought maybe it was just me. Well, actually it was me. I found myself getting wrapped up into the back and forth, posting comments that were of no value. Sorry if i offended anyone. I have been able to glean an immense amount of helpful info from these boards, and I hope they continue to serve people well.

When I initially became a member of CC I had only been on RCCL ships. Reading primarily the RCCL board. This year we decided to try CCL to form our own opinion and hopefully give ourselves more options. Started spending time on the CCL board and found that these people do not appreciate ANY criticism at all. It's vicious. The minute someone has a complaint, the Carnies swoop in, blame the poster because there must have been something they did wrong, or didn't do right blah blah blah.

So, I figured I come back to this board and see if it has gotten as nasty over here.

If you read the whole thread in question you will discover that the "Carnies" didnt really have a problem (OK a few did) with the original post. It was post #6 that started it all when ryane369 stated that a lower class clientele cruise on carnival. It was that generic catagorization that got everyone all riled up. In fact, the OP never came back to reply. Its one thing to criticise a cruise line. But when you start bashing the people that chose a particular cruise line, then you have gone too far.

As several of you have said on this thread, the bashing of the other line occurs on both RCL and CCL forums. There are just some people on both boards that cant imagine that their beloved cruise line can do anything wrong and get defensive whenever someone has a negative comment.

What a strange post! How would that person not know what amenities were on the ship before boarding? Did s/he expect them to magically appear?

I don't visit the CCL boards because RCCL is my cruiseline of choice - but I would imagine if that ship had so many problems there would be many people posting about problems - no deck chairs? People watching from the casino? It's not Vegas, it's a cruise ship.

Oh well, I have to agree - when folks come on complaining from soup to nuts about an RCCL cruise there are quite a few who do not give any quarter, but I don't recall them being called CCL plant.

Doesn't EVERYONE have to start with their first post? Why give the "troll" label out so quickly. Actually, in this case, a troll would have been much more negative.

That's a fair question, I think most of us expect people to come here and research their cruise before the cruise and when the first post is negative and comes after a cruise, people get suspicious, but in other forums non-cruise related I see the same thing happening.

This did make me think back to my first posts regarding cruising and I did a search on "cruising forums" I quickly found this one and another one. My first cruise included a stop in Labadee and I was concerned about going to Haiti. There was particular bad news about unrest there at that time (Isn't there always?) I posted a question about that in a section about RCI, then in one other section that seemed related. I got a reply from the moderator, Sonny I think was his name lambasting me for posting anti-haiti messages all over his board when I obviously didn't know anything about it, which I would happilly admit to. After getting much better information here, I stayed here and never went back to that other board.

If someone from Carnival would like to give me a Carnival cruise, I'd be happy to let them try and convert me. Ironically, this winter could have been my first Carnival cruise. My brother in law, a Carnival Die Hard, wanted to organize a multi-family - family cruise and it would have probably been on Carnival, but he died unexpectedly last year.

I remember when the Majesty was one of the largest cruise ships in the world... I sailed her her second year of service in RCCL.

I think it is still larger than, say, the Carnival Ecstacy.

It's a shame that the service aboard the Monarch and Majesty has gone by the wayside... in favor of those "weekend party" cruises.

There's history there.

Oh... and I have checked out the CCL board... it was okay.

I've been on RCI, Disney, Celebrity, Carnival and Princess. By far, my line of choice is RCI, but I had had a "menza-menz" experience aboard Carnival a decade ago... so I wanted to give them another try last year...

While I wasn't disappointed, I wasn't blown away, either. The price was good, the food was good, the service wasn't as good as our LotS cruise the year before... but you know what?

I can't go aboard a CCL ship and compare nonsense things (which I was doing)

So what if the wait staff didn't clear the tables at the buffet quickly?

So what if I swore I saw some of my fellow passengers on peopleofwalmart.com? amirite?

I think I told them in my review that I felt the two lines are more the same than different... and you get a good value for what you pay... BUT I still preferred RCI... It's apples to apples... but like... Macintosh vrs Honeycrisp...

to me, anyway.

Hi, my name is printingchick, and I was a die-hard Carnival cruiser.

I never posted a review insisting Carnival was vastly superior to Royal, but I distinctly remember a discussion with a Royal Caribbean fan who was taking a last-minute-deal cruise on Carnival (remember LJ?) where I insisted that it was just stupid to pay more to cruise on Royal than Carnival. Carnival's cruises were nearly always cheaper to the same destinations. And Carnival cruises were AWESOME! Why would you pay more to cruise on another line? Pure snobbery!

I had to eat those words.

I tried out a Royal cruise when my traveling buddy wanted to do the same cruise his co-worker had just done and raved about - Adventure of the Seas. We'd gone on Carnival Destiny in the southern Caribbean the previous year, so it wasn't the itinerary that sold us. I stepped onto Adventure and was WOWED! And I didn't WANT to like Royal better! I really didn't!

The "WOW" factor never faded. You'll see from my signature, I've never looked back.

Sure, I loved my Carnival cruises. But my Royal Caribbean experience has so far surpassed my Carnival experience, I just don't look elsewhere.

Some people are sure their favorite is the very best, even if they've never tried anything else. I was one of those people. If it ain't broke, you know?

I've had to eat my crow and maybe some of the people you're referring to will have to do likewise at some point. Ignorance may be bliss, but it's not a good basis for a debate!

I must be pretty easy to please. I just completed my 3rd Monarch cruise in less than 2 years. I've been on Majesty twice and I'm thinking about a 3rd next spring. I cannot find any fault at all with service on either ship.

But like most things on the boards it's jmho.

I agree with you. I've been on Majesty twice in the last 2 months. The service was top notch and the ship looks great.
