After doing a search, it seems the only way from teh SP harbor to Long Beach is cab or Super Shuttle..they both run about the same price. I've seen $30 - $45 when doing a search. Anyone know of any other way that might be a little less expensive?

Here's a link to the public transportation options from San Pedro, World Cruise Center to the Long Beach Airport.

Looks like perhaps $1.50 and an hour or so plus some walking over to the bus stop (I looked at the list and don't know which one would be closest to the cruise port) and then I understand that the bus doesn't go into the airport, so you would need to walk about a 1/2 mile or so from Lakewood Blvd to the airport terminal.

First of all, I have just read all 16 pages of this thread! And I want to say a big thank you to all who have contributed so much great info.

Now the 'help' part - we are on the Golden Princess departing SP on Feb. 1st. We are flying in on Jan. 31st and will spend one night pre-cruise. One question is...should we fly into LAX or into LGB? (We are coming from S. FL) Contemplating where to spend that night - do we stay out by LAX (if we fly there) and take a car/taxi to the port the next morning or should be stay in SP and take a hotel shuttle to the port?

Now - question two - upon return on Feb. 15, if we fly home that day, we have a choice of a 1010am flight, a 1230pm flight or a 1010 PM flight - I am quite sure we can't make the morning flight and even the 1230 flight sounds iffy to me. But I don't relish spending 12 hours in the LAX airport either! Flights to/from LGB are no better - have to go to Phoenix, Salt Lake City or somewhere else and then home. And most only give you 50 minutes to change planes - and we all know that may be a 'legal connection' but it is seldom do-able.

Our other option is to stay in a hotel near LAX the night of the 15th and fly home on the 16th. That way it wouldn't matter what time we got off the ship on the 15th. Sorry to be so confusing!

Was thinking of SuperShuttle as we have used them in NYC but Lordie - it took us more than 4 hours to get where we were going in the city because of all the stops! So I am going to check out Karmel Shuttles (as suggested) - would they come to the pier on the 15th and take us either to LAX or a hotel near LAX? Anyone know what they charge?

Again...many many thanks! I need to get the air and hotel(s) booked asap but am very confused as to where to fly in to, where to stay, how/when to fly home etc! Sorry about that!

I don't think we want to do that LOL. I was looking for a practical solution, not walking with suitcases all over the place. In any case we are not going to the airport, we are going to the Hotel Maya.

What we have done in the past and are doing again this time, is flying into LAX, taking super shuttle (using a coupon found online) to the Crowne South Palos Verdes which we bid on on Priceline $65 and then taxes were added).

When we have gone home from LAX, we've taken the a 12:30 flight usling Super Shuttle..all but two people on the shuttle from the cruise were going to LAX. We dropped the other two off (different addresses) in Long Beach. It wasn't a very long drive.

Thanks DMRick - I guess I am worrying that not knowing what time we get off the ship (has been anywhere from 7am to 10am in the past), then getting the shuttle to the airport, check-in, security, etc.....that we would miss the 1230 flight. We are retired so we can stay over if need be on the 15th...we have no timeframe that we have to get home in. But then, just our luck, we would probably get off the ship, take a shuttle to the hotel and get there by 10am! Then would have to sit in the lobby til 3 or whenever the check-in is......

Thanks again, will see if anyone else chimes in with thoughts.

Most hotels will hold your bags if you arrive early. Then you can go off and do some shopping or sightseeing if you would like. We did that in Hawaii post cruise and had a wonderful day.:)

Hi San Pedrans !! We live here locally in Lakewood/Long Beach and we heard a while back that the Ports of Call area might be getting a make over ? If so that would be great as I remember what it use to be like years ago , it was really a fun place to go for the day or evening and good places to eat and shop. Have you heard anything about that being a possiblilty, last time we ventured out there most of the little stores were empty or closed. And it was a bit run down.

Thanks for your information. Oh and is the little maritime museum still open in the old ferry building ?

You are not that far away Cori. Come on down and get a first-hand look.

Yep , we just might do that again one of these days, last time out there we did the Lane Victory tour, and drove down to the Ports of Call area. But it is only a short drive , might try to do that this coming week.

We are sailing out of the port next month and some people on our roll call have asked about the area and what to do , that is why I was asking . I referred them to this board.

Thanks.

Cori

The restaurant in on the same side of the street as the hotel ... just a few blocks west.

Hello

Thank you for for the information. I had tried to locate it on google, or one of the other map programs and they were sending me all over the state, even with the specific address and zip code. Yet another one of life's mysteries, I guess.

As said previously, I have found the postings on this site very helpful. Thank you everyone who have written

Now for my questios, , I will be coming Feb 27th, what will the temperature likely to be?

I will be landing at end of cruise in NY in March, where it will be cold, but if the temp in San Pedro is not too cold I will try to do without a "padded" coat , since in NY I will only be outside for a few minutes.

Will any one staying at the Crowne Plaza be posting their experience on this site?

Thank you again everyone.

Hi,

Can anyone offer any advice on dropping luggage curbside at Sen Pedro prior to parking?

1) Can this be done?

2) Does this work like the airlines, where they will check you in curbside too?

Thanks.

Yes, I have done this. I will drop DW and our luggage at the curb in front of the terminal building, give the luggage to a porter and then go and park, no problem at all.

DH is a fan of the Food Network's Diner, Drive-in's and Dives. What are your thoughts about Gaffey Street Diner?

Good breakfast, tons of food and a long wait. Nothing really spectacular but it blows away the Grinder. I like the Omellette and Waffle House over Gaffey Street Diner and if you want to stay closer to the hotels....Happy Diner or Mishi's.
