San Pedro from a San Pedran

Looks like that bus picks up in front of the Library on 9th and Gaffey. Is that what you have? There is no Amtrak facility in San Pedro. Take a quick taxi ride if you have a lot of luggage. If not, it's not a bad walk if you are healthy.

There is an Amtrak shuttle bus that picks up and drops off at the Catalina Express (ferry) stop. I also am wondering how to get to/from the World Cruise Center to the Catalina Ferry building. Is there a shuttle or bus inside the port that goes from these two locations?

I know there is one from the cruise center parking lots, but that's pretty much the whole way over there from the Catalina Express.

Wineaux,

We finish our cruise on the Golden Princess on May 9, which is a Wed, arriving at 7am. The plan is that we (two couples) will do Express Walk-Off with our luggage and have pre-arranged SuperShuttle (or equivalent) to take us to the Hilton at Universal Studios (Universal City). What time might we realistically expect to arrive at the Hilton?

Here's what I found so far:

The local 450 bus runs from the World Cruise Terminal up to the Catalina Express stop. It cost $1 or less if you are over 62. You have to walk across the parking lot out to Harbor Blvd (I think) to catch the bus. There is a free shuttle that runs you out to the parking lot.

It's probably about a 3 - 5 minute ride to the Catalina Express stop, and then the Amtrak bus picks up according to your Amtrak ticket.

If you are on Princess, they dock at Berth 93 and it's a 1/2 mile walk over to the Catalina stop along Swinford St., and under the St. Vincent Bridge.

I would love to be corrected if this info is not right.

If we're off the ship by 7:30am, we're wondering how long it might take to get to Universal City in morning traffic. Any idea?

Not Wineaux, but had to drive that way for work every so often from Long Beach--as you are a carpool and you are getting a private transfer (?) I would think you would have no problems getting there by 930 AM--if not earlier--unless there is something ugly, like rain, happening.

Some folks are just pickier than most. They want a $10 wine that drinks like Opus1. There is a nice little cafe that just opened up a block away from the CP on Centre Street called Happy Diner and then just another half-block from there is Mishi's Cafe. A small little hungarian strudel shop but they do have breakfast.

Never heard of Ray's (maybe you mean Rex's?...if so, they are great but too far away) and Simons is closed but they were not a breakfast joint anyway. I am not a big Grinder's fan but several folks have enjoyed their meals there. Hope this helps!!

Thank you sounds as though I will not have to go far to settle the rublings in my stomach. Hungarian strudel, mmmm, I love that sort of thing, my favourite place on QM2 is Sir Samuels, sitting there eating croissants, and drinking chocolate with lots of cream on the top. Could be in Paris.

Only 30 days until I am having breakfast in San Pedro.

Tne Catalina Express is right next to the World Cruise Center unless you are talking about the one in Long Beach.

No problem with Crowne Plaza.

We've stayed there many times.

They help with luggage, take to

your room. pick up in morning

if you call.

Staff very friendly. hotel clean.

In evening if you don't want

to walk far, across the street, one

building down, the Green Onion,

mexican food. Short walk.

Thank you Belle, I found some of the reviews suspect, but never having stayed in San Pedro I could not be sure.

My flight has been changed and instead of getting to LAX at 3p.m, I will not now arrive until 5p.m, by the time I get my luggage, and am driven out to San Pedro, it will be almost 7 CA time (10p.m FL time ) so I thinkI will bring a light snack with me and eat in my room, then go out for a good breakfast next morning. I will have several hours to fill before leaving for the ship

Have not read of anyone else going on the QV staying at the Crown Plaza..

Don't forget, though, that no one is allowed to leave the ship until it is cleared by immigrations and customs officials (including the canine patrol that checks the luggage). I think the first passengers that are allowed off at that point are the ones with high priority, and those who will self-disembark (meaning that they can carry all of their luggage off themselves).

Personally, I feel that unless one has a true need (morning flights -- even though that's pushing it), a passenger shouldn't insist on being the first off -- just to go to an amusement park. Sorry, but that's how I feel.

wow...great thread! Thanks in advance for all of the help!

We are taking a fall California Coastal cruise on the Sapphire Princess. Upon disembarking we will be going over to Disneyland for a few days. I am trying to decide whether to use taxis or rent a car. First of all, any idea of how much it would be in a taxi from LAX to San Pedro, and then a ballpark idea of how much a taxi might cost to get from San Pedro cruise terminal to Anahelm? Or would private transportation be a better option for the two of us?

thanks again!

If all goes well we are thinking of renting a car after disembarking the Sapphire in May and driving to Vegas. Where is the closest car rental from the cruise terminal? Appreciate your help.

In October we used Enterprise which is located at the Crowne Plaza. They picked us up at the terminal and had us on the road in no time.

Was your Enterprise rental from San Pedro a one way out of state? Last time we checked with them they did not allow the rental to be dropped off in a different state. Maybe this rule has changed.

We have rented a car several times to drive back to Las Vegas from the port in San Pedro...used Avis, which has a location in downtown Long Beach on Ocean Ave. It's about a 10-15 minute taxi ride and about $20-25 from the port.

I'm looking to disembark in San Pedro and take the 11:30 Amtrak bus to Union Station. Is it difficult to get from the cruise terminal to the ferry/Amtrak facility? Is there a shuttle or should I plan something else?

Thanks

Roy

We just used Amtrak out of LA -- nobody goes there!!

BEST limo service in San Pedro is Airport Escort Service, ops@airportescortservice.com

They picked us up at Union Station - handled all our luggage, etc - and the driver gave us a "tour" as we were driving through LA to San Pedro. Highly recommend them.

I think what rafinmd is referring to is the Amtrak shuttle bus that picks up over at the Catalina Express ferry location at Pier 95. Is there any transportation inside the San Pedro port area that goes from the piers at the World Cruise Center (piers 91 - 93) and goes over to pier 95? It looks like pier 93 might be walkable.

I'm also looking for the same information.
