Captain Thore got off on November 1, and Captain Dustin supposedly is on now (we also got off November 1). Then Captain Lis will board at the end of his rotation. I'm not sure about Captain Karin.

 

Capt Karin is taking an extended leave of absence to care for ailing parents. I heard she resigned, but some say it's temporary and that she'll be back.

 

I've corrected Capt Dustin's start date.

No. Not until he's done with Liberty (3-5 years). Being familiar with a port has nothing to do with how captains are assigned to ships. Perhaps that was true in the past but nowadays, with captains able to practice arrival and departure in the simulator, and doing an overlap with the existing master to see in person how things are, it's not necessary to only assign masters familiar with the port. They do get bored with the same "sea"nery day in and day out!

Do you have a list of the Hotel Directors on the ships?

Keeping a list of Hotel Directors current would be a difficult job. There are some HDs that stick with a particular ship and have a set rotation and there are some that fluctuate between ships (so you never know what ship they are going to next).

Might not stay accurate due to the "floating" HDs but wouldn't it be fairly simple to add a sheet to the Googledoc that is out here somewhere that lists all sorts of things.

Sure it would, just like the current CL/DL list, but the only way it will stay accurate is by getting accurate information on a regular basis. Example is current HD on Jewel.........it's who again??:D

 

Karen does an outstanding job of keeping her Captain's list up to date, but even she has had some inaccurate info from time to time.

I went back and read the first two pages of posts and didn't see an explanation. You are doing a great job keeping this list up to date and it is appreciated. It would be helpful to occasionally explain the purpose of the second listing. For example, is it the staff captain or the person who will replace the current captain? Thanks very much.

Each ship has two captains assigned that rotate on and off at roughly 10 week intervals. So, the captain that has a "started rotation" date is the one currently onboard. The second one is on vacation. Most do 10 week rotations, but the two captains can work out a slightly different rotation schedule between themselves.

Captain Claus told those on ship that he rotates off Anthem tomorrow. I bet he's ready. They had to speed and got back to Bayonne tonight. They had multiple medical emergencies.

Just off Anthem, Captain Claus was terrific the entire cruise -- very clear, very informative. He also did a great job managing and explaining the sad medical situation with four guests that resulted in our early return to Bayonne.

 

Back to the topic at hand, he said that Captain Andersson (presumably Gus) was already on board and would be taking over today.

I think Captains can do a rotation as short as 8 weeks and as long as 14 if it is worked out between the 2 captains.
