Rhetorical question: Should I book a consecutive cruise for $100?

I figure I know the answer to this, so it's mostly a rhetorical question, but I figured I'd post the question to see whether there are any holes in my logic.

I'm currently booked on the Freedom of the Seas in October.

I just received a "free" 4-night cruise from my local casino. I'm pleased that they've partnered with Royal Caribbean this year. (They offered NCL last year.) The "free" cruise covers just the fare, and I'd be responsible for taxes and gratuities.

Here's the plan I'm considering: Book the Monarch of the Seas on the Monday following our return on the Freedom of the Seas on Sunday. This will cost me about $100 for the taxes and gratuities. I can change my existing air reservation for no charge (thanks, Southwest), and the resulting fare is actually slightly cheaper than what I've got now, so there's no extra cost here.

As a bonus, as far as I'm aware, as a "consecutive cruiser" with a one night stay between cruises, Royal Caribbean will put me up in a hotel on Sunday night and provide transportation both ways between the port and the hotel.

So, for about $100, I get 4 extra cruise nights plus an extra day in the Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area.

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?

Hmmmm...I have never heard this before. Interesting.

As a consecutive cruiser, Royal Caribbean WILL PAY for your hotel stay the night between. You need to call them to be sure your reservations are linked together and be sure they know you need a reservation for the hotel stay. Make sure it doesn't slip between the cracks. We did this last October between our Oasis/Allure B2B cruise.

I sure can't think of any. Book it! :D

Very interesting, I never knew that! Would you mind letting us know where you stayed in Fort Lauderdale? Just curious. :)

I did just this morning!

I talked with my friend who's going with me on this trip last week and over the weekend, detailing all the costs for the trip and such, and we were able to confirm that all our ducks were in a row to extend our trip.

It ended up being a bit more expensive (~$145/person) because we decided to take a slight category upgrade than was being offered, and the cheap Southwest flight had disappeared, so we had to pay $3 each to change our return flight to Friday. All in all, that's a fantastic price to add on several more cruise vacation days.

This isn't answering your question, but just in case anyone is curious about the hotel given to us for the our cruises out of Port Canaveral, they're using the Doubletree by Hilton by the Orlando Airport. Yeah, we're going to have to schlep back to the airport after the first cruise, and then back to the port the next morning. Slightly less convenient, but hey, it's free! :D

That's awesome! I was thinking of trying to see if DH and I could sail the Majesty after our Allure cruise this fall. We'll see. Either way I learned something new today. Enjoy your cruises, you got a great deal! :)

Congrats. The only reason I could think why not to do it would be if vacation time was limited or you had unpaid vacation (hence the opportunity cost of not working would factor into the cruise cost). Have fun!

The only downside to this scenario... BIG ship... LITTLE ship...

Little ship... BIG ship would be a better plan but hey... Any ship will be better than your living room sofa!!

The "a little more expensive" basically = about 10 minutes in the casino on board so...

Enjoy your extended cruise(s) :)

OK so the net of this excersize was to have us all plot ways to impersonate you at check in and to make us envious of your good fortune. I mean really? Was there ever any question with your question? Please call on us anytime you need advice for the obvious! Always happy to help!

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad that I didn't overlook anything and it's definitely a great opportunity! I'm very lucky!

I did think about that, but that option doesn't work in this case because there are two days in between the Monarch returning on Friday and the Freedom departing on Sunday. Royal Caribbean won't provide a hotel (even one night) if there are two nights between the two cruises.

Fortunately, that's not an option, but I did double-check how many vacation days I have available to make sure I can afford to take off two weeks instead of just one.

Your post made me laugh! Thanks so much!

Great deal!

Mind if i piggyback on your thread please? Decisions..

We have 5 night Jewel booked 11.24 for $849 in a JS. Not any JS, 1100! Now there is a military rate of $869 on FOS for 7 nights in a D2. We live in Tampa, we can drive to Canaveral. But give up 1100 for an extra two nights for $20pp? Either way we would be taking a week of vacation time and are flexible.

Points are no deal breaker either, after the Brilliance we'll be at 83 points if we go with Jewel, 80 exactly if FOS.

JOS - Key West, Cozumel

FOS - Labadee, Falmouth, Grand Cayman, Cozumel

Funny you mention that; I'm actually thinking of doing the same and already have that week booked off. All I'd need to do is change my return flight, but that decision will be made probably in July or August.
