My ship may sail without me tomorrow

I am super sorry to hear that you are not feeling well, especially when it's right before something you were looking forward to so much. If you, have to miss your cruise though, don't let it get to you too much. God forbid you get on the boat and get seriously Illinois the idle of the ocean. What's the point in going if you won't be able to eater do anything and enjoy yourself anyways? Hope you figure this all out and get better : )

Your health is much more important than any cruise. Don't worry about the money, if you lose it you lose it, but I suspect that if you visit your regualr physician the first of the week you can get the proper documentation that you were not healthy enough to travel. Remember that they are much happier to work with you than the ones you see at the hospital.

As soon as I read your symptoms I was like... uhhhh gallbladder! I feel your pain, or rather felt it. I suffered for a week before heading to the doctor. Each day the pain would return in the evening after dinner.. then it started at lunch.. then it eventually was constant. This was 23 years ago before they started doing the laproscopic procedure. Can ya say 11" scar??

I can only imagine your disappointment, but most important is that you get yourself taken care of. Best of luck.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope that you are feeling much better very soon! If you cannot go, I hope that your insurance will pay so that you can go when are feeling better. I hope the issue gets worked out quickly and you get back to 100% in a hurry :)

I would get the docter to word the letter that you can't cruise-period, no skin off his back, less stress on you. It would be terrible if the gallbladder ruptured and you were miles out to sea. I hope it all goes well for you, and get well soon!

I am ready to cry. Been looking so forward to leaving on the Pride tomorrow to celebrate my 40th birthday next week.

Starting having some tummy issues about a week ago that have been getting worse and worse. Had chest pain start mid-week and ended up having a full heart work-up and stress test on Thursday. All were fine, they gave me an antacid and told me to enjoy my cruise. Kept feeling sicker and sicker yesterday with tummy issues and dizziness. Instead of loading the car this morning we went back to the ER where they said my gallbladder has sludge and they are testing for an ulcer that will take 2 or 3 days but that I need to see a surgeon to get my gallbladder out. :( Then they told me it was up to me whether or not to take the cruise.

We could technically still leave early and drive up to Baltimore in the morning, but the way I feel now there's no way I can make it 5 hours in the car. Can't eat, can barely drink, and too dizzy to even finish packing.

To top it all off, I called CSA travel insurance today and I probably won't be covered for cancellation since the dr. said it was up to me whether or not to travel - even though I have the ER paper work diagnosing the gallbladder issue and advising removal. My only hope is that the surgeon can see me next week (don't know how long it will take to get an appt.) and certify I wasn't fit to travel.

I'm so bummed - never thought I'd be in this situation. But I honestly can't fathom getting on the ship feeling this bad.

Sorry for the long rant but had to vent to some folks who know how painful it is to be sitting here sick on the eve of your cruise knowing you probably won't be onboard tomorrow. :(

Oh my I am so sorry. I really hope you feel better soon. Obviously your health is number one, but I hope you feel better enough to take your cruise tomorrow.

After all of the "doctors" on this thread finish diagnosing you I would, as others have stated, call your doctor on Monday. I'm sure he would be agreeable with changing the wording.

Sometimes insurance companies have me shaking my head in wonderment.

No one diagnosed anything - he said what they thought was wrong, and he posted it here. He knew he would get suggestions when he did so.

im so sorry to hear this i hope your feeling much better , im studying to become a (RN) and work my way up to become a doctor , i have been training in the hospital for the past 2 years , i had assits the doctor with a patient who had this same exact problem as you. the doctor told her also it was up to her to take medication to clam the pain down or get surgery right away. but i gave her advice and told her its better to solve the issue now and not wait until it gets worst. the lady had gotten this taken out and thank god she all better now. i suggest you get that taken care off as soon as you get your results good luck with everything feel better.

Thanks again everyone for the encouragement. :)

We've made the decision that I'm going to have to stay home. As much as I hate that, I still feel way too crummy to even ride in the car up to Baltimore. Jello is about all I can eat right now and even that brings on the symptoms to some degree. Can't have a cruise where I can't eat! :p

We also thought it was better to err on the side of caution in case something were to get worse this week. Will call the specialist first thing tomorrow morning and hope he can see me quickly and it's not one of those wait months for the appt things.

I told my husband that you know something is wrong with me when I'm not ready to jump in the car to head out for a cruise.

You made the right choice. We were off-loaded for 3 days in Belize while on the Dream as they thought dd had appendicitis, and would need surgery. It was my worst nightmare. (luckily it was an infection that mimicked appendicitis) You would not want to be "stuck" in that hospital for surgery - or any other hospital on most caribbean islands. I can tell you stories that would curl your hair - and this was a "good" hospital! As much as it hurts (in more ways than one!) staying in the good old U.S.A. is the best way to go. I also have had gallbladder attacks, and know the agony of them. You can always re-book your cruise - but you may not be able to re-gain your health if you let things go too far. Good luck, and keep us posted!:)

Sorry to hear about your problem. The insurance company might need the doctor to complete their forms. Call the claims department and tell them you wish to file a claim. Have them email any required forms so you can complete your section and actually bring them to the doctor you see on Monday. I filled some out for my father's illness a few years ago and they were not that complicated for my Travelex policy. Good luck.

That really stinks !!!

You may want to get your doctor to word your note differently so your insurance covers you

That's what I'm thinking!

Look after your body first -you can always cruise again later

after you straighten out your personal health.

I recently had a similar Gall Bladder concern

but an ultrasound examination proved that organ to be non-suspect.

Are you eating too much rich food? Fatty stuff?

.

Looking back it's definitely anything with fat in it that causes the tummy isues. I often snack on peanuts and was thinking last week that I kept having tummy issues after eating them. This explains why - they are high in fat even though it's healthy fat.

Unfortuneately, it's gotten to where even plain water, jello, plain crackers - very bland stuff - is bothering me. I've lost 6 pounds in just a few days because I can't eat.

There's a form the insurance has where the doctor has to certify I couldn't travel. If I can't get an appt. with the surgeon this week, I am going to go see my regular doctor with the ER paperwork diagnosing the gallbladder and recommending the surgery to see if he will fill it out.

I'm glad you didn't go as you would have been miserable. I was out March and April for 6 weeks with gallbladder issues. I had to have so many tests (sonogram, blood work, MRI, CT scan) before they would operate. Have a test - wait. Have a test - wait. I lost 20 pounds in 4 weeks. I went back to work a week after surgery but didn't feel like myself again until about 10 days afterwards. Being at home is better than being in a cabin in bed where you can't enjoy anything going on. My AFLAC policy paid me in 10 days of filing the claim. My disability insurance that my job provides is giving me a hard time. There was absolutely NO WAY I could have worked. I went in one day the second week and lasted one hour. So sorry as I can only imagine what a disappointment this is. Definitely take the forms to the doctor and tell him exactly what you need. Most will oblige. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. REST!

Also, until you get this resolved...

stay away from lettuce or any green leafy stuff....

I don't know why, but that's what the doctor told me.

As far as the insurance, just tell them you were feeling better but then had a severe relapse just before sailing.... which is true....

Trust me on this, I am a RN Case Manager and fill out these forms and sometimes write letters justifying medical necessity. It is obvious that you are in physical distress (probably mentally too!!!!) and there is no reason for a physician to not sign the form. Some will want to fill in the answers but usually that's left to the nurse or office staff who can review your chart and diagnosis...the doc just signs the form.

I wish you a happy, pain free birthday. As others have mentioned and you yourself know that you don't want to risk your health on a vacation, be it land or sea.
