Seling Elite Coupons

Orator

Recommended Posts

Still sorting paperwork from our NY cruise and have unused elite coupons. They state: "One offer per coupon per CC Elite Member. Valid for pre-enrolled members only."

"Nontransferable." "Valid for this sailing only. No cash value."

This precludes selling or giving them to someone else.

Doesn't preclude selling or giving them away, it is just worthless to recipient.

I suppose they could use the match play coupon without getting caught..so maybe not totally worthless, but close.

For us, we only use the Internet coupons and once in a while use the laundry ones, but others are of no use to us.

Good point, I guess there is always someone willing to pay for something almost worthless. We use the internet, laundry and wine coupons, sometimes Persian Gardens. Everything else is excess paper.

I agree, tacky to sell them! But I really, really hope they don't load them on our Seapasses. My mother doesn't gamble and always gives us her match play coupons. I don't see anything wrong with that since we're all on the same level and the casino is getting a shot at our money.

Orator, the RC board was recently speculating on a comment by Adam Goldstein. Looks like there is a plan to do away with the loyalty coupons, and pre-load the Crown & Anchor perks onto your SeaPass Card. If Celebrity follows suit, there would be no coupons to sell -- except old ones for "memorabilia" purposes.

Many Las Vegas and upscale Indian casinos are already doing this: All your comps are loaded into your player's card, which include free-play money, comps like buffets or comp $, free rooms, etc.

But knowing Celebrity to be the low tech leader, this might take a while...

My guess is that this sort of thing is a tiny problem.

Coding everything into your room card world be like using an elephant gun to shoot a mosquito. :p

I look forward to CCers looking out for the muppet who bought them when they are on board - you will spot them, ranting and raving when their coupons are not accepted

Ha ha! Yes! That would be great entertainment ;)

I do find it all a bit old fashioned having paper coupons. We had a couple of sheets of them on our reunion cruise (not elite) which were pretty useless to us.

It must be such a pain for the staff dealing with them, especially the elite hour drinks coupons at the bars.

Maybe in the future they could be loaded to your MyCelebrity online account, pre cruise, with simple code numbers for each benefit, to access by inputing into your onboard account, possibly via the interactive TV? Guess not everyone would want to do it this way though?

While I understand that the coupons are designed to be a perk for you, what is the problem with selling them?

If the desired result is to encourage you to use their services, ie, buy internet minutes and get some free, or get a percentage off on a spa visit, why would Celebrity care who uses them? I know that some TAs offer coupons books as a perk. What's the difference?

Technically, "the desired result" is rewarding pax for their loyalty so X should care who uses them, as should other Captain Club members if for no other reason than when any pax can avail themselves of the CC privileges by purchasing them on eBay, the privileges associated with loyalty become meaningless. For example, when X used to charge for CC membership, far fewer pax on any given cruise were in the pool and early disembarkation was a valuable "privilege." Now, when 1200 of 2000 pax on a given cruise have the "privilege" of early disembarkation, that privilege has been significantly devalued just by virtue of the numbers. In other words, when everyone is "special," no one is "special." Beyond that, the coupons require name/cabin number on the reverse side so buyer beware - $29.95 worth of Elite privileges may buy you nothing but the paper on which they are printed.

I doubt Celebrity will go to electronic coupons.

Most of the coupons they distribute are just advertisements - marketing promos to get you to spend more money. By putting the Captain's Club perks like free internet and laundry on the sheet with these others it forces you to look at the marketing offers. If the Captain's Club perks were not on the sheets then they'd lose a way of getting people to look at these advertisements.

While I've never sold any coupons before, I do buy Delta Club Room passes on eBay. Most recently bought two day passes for $20 each that Delta normally sells for $49 a piece. eBay is always full of various airline club passes being sold....

Just got off silhouette, and person ahead of me in the iLounge was trying to use an elite coupon for either free or discounted Internet minutes (don't remember which). They would not accept it because her sea pass did not show that she was an elite member.

Sale or transfer of any coupons is not allowed - this is printed on the back of every coupon. I'm sure Celebrity has some sort of loss prevention program to prevent this just as any retail business has loss prevention in place to deter shoplifters even though it may or may not detect every occurrence of this. I sure wouldn't want to be caught either selling my coupons or using a coupon I wasn't entitled to.

The happy hour drink vouchers are only used on a very limited number of cruises. Also, they are dated with a specific day they are for and are not good on any other day.

I don't know all this hub bub sounds m7uch ado about nothing. Just about every cruise I hqave been on I've given my tablemates my extras that they want and they've given the ones of theirs that I want. There has never been a problem using them.
