Toddcan Posted February 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2013 We buy ship models on our cruises - they sit in our living room, and are a great reminder of our fun times. We have 4. But, it sounds like the Independence does not have a very well stocked store, and recent reviews have pointed out that ship models were not available for purchase. I searched online, but found only 1 website - very nice models, but they are mounted, and in a case, and cost $495. Anyone know of any other place we might find these? Yes, they pop up on Ebay from time to time, but I'm wondering if anyone has had any success ordering from some other source other than on the ship. The optimist in me thinks that whomever runs the onboard stores, might have an online presence. Also -Do you thing ship model collecting is common? It's a lot better than a T-shirt (although, I do buy those). It's even better a ship magnet (which I also buy).

I would like to have one of the larger more detailed models, as they have up in the Future Sales department, but I figure those are a bit pricy. I think it would be even more interesting to have a cutaway model that had scale model details inside the ship

But, it really would be nice to have an Indy one too. I like your suggestion, but... I'm sure I won't be able to purchase either one of those models on board the Indy either ;)
Rare bobmacliberty Posted February 2, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2013 Don't know where you can buy a model, but we've also been collecting a model for each ship that we've been on (now up to 3!!). As you say, they are a nice reminder. I agree...better than a t-shirt.
uksimonusa Posted February 2, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 2, 2013 They had none on Indy when we sailed in 2009 and none again when we sailed in 2012. I had a friend who sailed her out of Southampton and they bought me one and mailed it to me, strange that it is a lot smaller than my Freedom and Liberty Models:confused:

This past year we were on Navigator and that model is different from others that I have. It is smaller than Explorer, Adventure, and Mariner and it is also made of a different type of material. It is much more light weight. I wish that they would not cheapen the models in any way. I'd much rather pay a bit more for it that have it dumbed down to save some production costs. The girls told me she sold the last two that morning and both were damaged. I'm going to start a thread when I get home to see if I can fid a kind soul whom will buy one onboard and ship it to me for a commission. Rare Teeara Posted February 3, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I, too, have collected the ship models for each of my cruises. On my Jewel cruise I was disappointed not to see the models on display. I asked the gal in the shop about it and she said they only put them out ON THE LAST NIGHT of the cruise. Not sure if the other ships do that, but it might be worth asking about the next time you cruise if you don't see them upon boarding. pspercy Posted February 3, 2013 #10 Share Posted February 3, 2013 (edited) I didn't like the onboard models but I'd love to have even one of these: http://scherbakshipmodels.tripod.com/ :) Edited February 3, 2013 by pspercy
Toddcan Posted February 3, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I didn't like the onboard models but I'd love to have even one of these: http://scherbakshipmodels.tripod.com/ :) Yeah, that's the website I was talking about - but did you see the prices?? They have 3 levels of ship detail. The cheapest, called "souvienir series" is still between $80-$150. Personally, I think they look cheap. You can get the really detailed model.. for over $
Ned11 Posted February 3, 2013 #12 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I bought one on the Mariner as I thought it would be good to start a collection but didn't get one on the Majesty as it was my first cruise and didn't think about it then. Hope to get one on the Explorer in April. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I did get a casino chip. :) I didn't like the onboard models but I'd love to have even one of these: http://scherbakshipmodels.tripod.com/ :) They are nice and several people suggest those. However, I have already got 3 of the models from the logo shop onboard. I want to to keep them consistent.
Arizona Laura Posted February 4, 2013 #14 Share Posted February 4, 2013 The ship models are all I collect from the cruise ships I have been on. Luckily the Allure will be my next one in April. I also do a photo book online (Picaboo) for all my cruises. Laura

Airbear232 Posted June 20, 2018 #17 Share Posted June 20, 2018 Did you try reaching out to the Crown and Anchor Society? You’d think they would be able to help. We too collect models and are up to 18. Has anyone noticed they’ve been jacking the prices up significantly on the models?

johnjen Posted June 20, 2018 #21 Share Posted June 20, 2018 They might not be called "models" but the anthem models in the store (going for around $50) seemed a bit warped to me. Anyone else notice that?

95south Posted June 21, 2018 #24 Share Posted June 21, 2018 People on CC are generally cool and if you see someone cruising on the ship you need just ask them and maybe they could pick one up for you and you can pay them for it. I was on Freedom in 2010 and picked one up to add to my collection and a guy came in after me and bought up like 20 of them! Apparently this is something people do and resell them on Ebay. I think I paid $45 for the ship but I've seen the exact same one on Ebay going for $300.00!! I would suggest people who want to buy them get them on day one as they do tend to sell out.
