Unbelievable review of Dawn

I just read this review:

http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=244778

I was on the same cruise, and have to disagree with most of this review. I guess these folks really hate Neil Diamond, and did not do research before booking.

Our group only had two people over 70 and we all enjoyed the entertainment and the food. To say that the food was not "tasty" must mean that they have lost their taste buds. Oh, and the ocean view cabin was "small". DUH.

IMO A clear case of unreasonable expectations.

Everything on that review I found to be the opposite of what I experienced!! Although we were on her in 2007 my kids both teenagers and I in my 30's thoroughly enjoyed the Dawn, the food, entertainment, games, and cleanliness!!

I think maybe they should have done research before taking the word of someone booking for them on priceline!!

The funniest part of the review

"The worst....yes, just keeps getting better...We were having a drink with a couple that was in their 30's and they informed us, that this was also a "old swingers cruise". Ewe...how disgusting is that! No wonder old men and women were trying to flirt with us"

Aren't kids off for a holiday break right now? This looks like a little creative writing exercise.

Too many thing to comment on. But, 2 1/2 hours to clear customs?

Actually, it also took us 2.5 hours to get from the ship through customs (the problem was understaffed Immigration and the fact that immigration was taking the slow process for each person (not scanning the passports, but reading them, typing on the computer, reading them again, looking at the pictures and the persons, etc).

Interesting that they indicated that the cruise was to Eastern Caribbean where actually it was west.

That's why I always look at reviews for what they are: A review is one person's OPINION that that one person's experience. Plain and simple. Just because they liked/disliked something it has absolutely no bearing on whether I will like/dislike the same thing.

We could all make this (CC) a nicer place if we'd remember that these are just opinions, everyone has one, it has no bearing on our personal experience, and there is no rule or expectation that we have to "agree" with it. We all waste too much time and energy worrying about addressing opinions simply because they are different than our own.

And that, of course, is MHO ;)

That sailing (which was, indeed, a Western itinerary) was the week before the Thanksgiving holiday, so there were not many youth onboard.

2.5 hours to clear was actually a bit better than I personally experienced that morning.

Regarding the linked review . . . I'm SO glad that I had a better perceived/actual experience than the writer. Given the chance to repeat that week exactly as it was, I would jump at the chance. :)

I actually do know the average passenger age on that sailing (due to asking someone in authority) . . . and although it was not quite as high as reviewed, it was relatively close.

I enjoyed the Neil Diamond tunes presented several times throughout the week (and thought Jose was rather spot-on with his slightly rasped vocal duplication).

The weather during the week was MUCH better than had been predicted in advance. The few occasions of sea conditions affecting the ship were quite limited. I never once played Bingo, as it's just not my normal thing to do. The casino was quite friendly to me. :D

Also thoroughly enjoyed meeting the fellow CC members in the Star Bar on Monday morning. :)

I don't know if this has anything to do with the review (and it's reference to age), but I do wonder if there were challenges with the writer accessing the elevators throughout the week. Often as I'd I pass by one there would be a backup of some elderly passengers getting on/off the elevators. I wasn't affected as I never once used an elevator after embarkation . . . just personal choice of getting the added exercise on a cruise that offered extra calories. ;)

If the writer had waited one week, they'd have experience a VERY different average age, as there were 600+ youth onboard last week for Thanksgiving. Perhaps then the complaint/concern would be just the opposite.

All are definitely entitled to their opinion of any experience, and (again) I'm VERY glad that my experience during that same week was dramatically better.

Could I be picky about a number of things? . . . Yes!

But it would be just that - Picky.

Example: La Cucina, was quite delicious, and the service (Thank you, King!) was superb. I was seated in a perfect location, and left the restaurant extremely satisfied . . . albeit confused. If it's an Italian restaurant, why are most of the murals on the walls by French artists??

I hope those sailing soon on Norwegian Dawn will have a wonderful time. Go by the atrium coffee bar and meet Rinna. She'll smile/chat and make you feel welcome each and every visit.

If you look for the bad, you will only see bad.

If you look for the good, it is easy to see past the bad.

It was one person's opinion. I have worked in statistics, and I am pretty sure we would categorize this as an outlier-- due to the extremity of the review.

I do have to say, I was a bit tickled about the "older swingers" comment. :eek:wow. just wow.;)

Here's something I came across a few months ago. Even through the data is from 2011, the article has some good information about cruising and cruiser.

Under section "Cruise Passenger Profile" The average age of cruisers is 50 year old. The average household income is $109,000 per year.

Some good stuff....

Some people get out of bed just looking for something to complain about, and she is obviously one of them.

Our experience on the Dawn was polar opposite of what she wrote.

We are 51 and 53, and we had two 18 year girls with us, and there was no lack of fun for any of us.

Darn, I cruised a week later and didn't get any offers. Wink.

I see reviews like this and totally disregard them as all I see is a miserable person that could not have fun if their life depended on it. They are the person that complains about everything. They do no research on their vacations and then blame it on everyone else.

The Boston Red Sox just won the World Series, it was very timely to play Sweet Caroline constantly.

They must have been anticipating it since they played that song all the time last June 2012 on the Dawn. Didn't really bother me though.

LMAO

The review was just too funny. My wife and I are 50 and so are our two friends. Yes, about 2/3 of the folks on board were over 50. It was really nice not to have a mob scene of kids. I did see a fair amount of toddlers and teenagers.

Here's my review of the sailing http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1948871
