Opinions on the "Live" Concerts?

Any input on the "Live Concerts"?

By now, there should have been a few concerts performed by STYX so I was curious how those went.

According to an article I've read recently, there are no seating assignments so it’s first-come, first-served once inside the theater.

Any opinions out there?

Thanks

We won't see Styx until September but someone posted on Facebook the other day that they went and the VIP package is a very quick meet n greet, photo opp and everyone gets a presigned 8x10. They did say the show was excellent.

VIP is first three rows and the rest are first-come, first served.

Hopefully we'll see some reviews on here soon.

As for pricing, we paid $100 for the Styx VIP on Carnival and tickets for their show in Fort Wayne Indiana went on sale yesterday and we paid $70 for the 9th row and get no meet n greet, photo opp or anything else. The cheapest seats were $40 and are way back, whereas the cheapest seats on Carnival are $20. And I don't have to drive to or from the show on the boat:)

So I think Carnival is giving us a great price for a great product.

Memories. We saw Styx during their Paradise Theatre tour for $15. We were so impressed with that show, I bought the album the next day, and bought tickets for a subsequent concert at a different venue in another state.

Still sorry that Dennis DeYoung has left the band. He was touring locally just recently, but found out too late. It was sold out.

Enjoy the experience!

I also have a few questions .....

What time was the VIP meet & greet ??

Is there time between the meet & greet and the show to order drinks ??

Where was it held ??

Are you able to bring album covers for the band to sign ??

Anyone else?

How has Carnival done with crowd control for the regular seats?

Given the previous chatter about this concert series when it was first introduced a few months ago, I'm a little surprised no one has any thoughts they'd like to share ...

I keep wondering who the first performer will be that doesn't fill the theatre.....how embarrassing would that be?

For most performers, not very embarrassing. Performing on a cruise ship would be similar to playing a festival gig with other events going on at the same time, and experienced performers should be used to playing to partly empty halls and (sometimes) audiences that are "less engaged" with the performance.

(I might be seeing this first-hand next January. :o )

I look forward to hearing some reviews also. We book Fascination with Styx in September. I only booked regular tickets for 20 a piece but the PVP's know very little how it is all handled. So please tell us how it worked. The YouTube video Carnival released today looked very promising. Looks like they have photo background for pictures with friends before or after the show.

I wish they would get some decent bands, quite honestly I prefer the live music on deck over most the bands feature in the live concerts. I'll be on a styx cruise in October. I don't plan on attending, but I like that the ship is staying in Cozumel until 1:00am that's the biggest perk I think.

One thing I found interesting about the Youtube video is that they are bringing in a high end sound system. I thought they may be using the house system as it is a very good quality theater system (EAW speakers, MIDAS mixing board). By them having to rent a line array system, that must be an additional $5K+ expense easily (if not more). Carnival can't be making much money (if anything ) off these concerts after paying the band, travel for those involved and gear rental and only charging $20-$40 a ticket. I'd guess the only benefit is getting fans of the bands to book cruises.

. . .

This is very typical of Meet and Greet opportunities at concerts on shore, though usually on shore you do not get the presigned photo.

Can you use your own cameras for the photos or does Carnival take them and make you buy them?

We just returned from a four night on Sensation and Kansas concert. Our experience may not match others and likely will vary ship to ship. It was fabulous! I had purchased just a regular $20 ticket before we boarded. The cruise price was too low to resist. Hubby was not too keen on attending at first. The ship crew and staff really promoted this concert night! It was their first band on board. Many free tickets given away in games and for casino guests. Diamonds, four on this cruise, were given VIP passes. The high energy was contagious and the lounge was packed for the concert.

About 90 min before the concert, the VIP pass holders met in disco lounge. We received lanyards with pass attached, pictures with the band, complimentary champagne and then a cocktail choice. The band did not sign album covers. We were also given individually signed production photo of the band, not preprinted. It was a very short preshow meet. Really no opportunity to speak with band members beyond shaking hands and greeting. Purell was required before handshakes.

The first three rows of show lounge were roped off and full by beginning of concert. We were also given opportunity to order drinks before the show. These were comp, too. Concert was about an hour and 20 min total. The sound was excellent and no hearing loss! Not Carnival's sound equipment, I am certain. So much fun! It was excellent.

Funniest thing happened. New concert attendees, I suppose. Near the end, the band leaves the stage and tradition is the crowd begs for an encore. Well, half of VIP section left!? They thought it was over. Then, band comes back and plays two of their best!

Looking forward to doing it again! Likely Chicago end of May and Styx, too. Would love to see Foreigner, but already on another ship. Hopefully, they add more dates. Probably not, they are in Europe all summer.

So, we loved it. But, may be different on another ship. Diamond level was appreciated on Sensation.

Finally!

2Shoes2Go, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts of the Kansas concert. Glad to hear it went so well. That’s great you received free drinks.

Sounds like Carnival is really putting some effort into this and that’s nice.

For the past few years, Carnival has hosted several private music charters, which has given them a roadmap in creating Carnival Live

I think they will expand and other cruiselines will follow their example
