One Day Cruise as an Elite

A week ago, we just returned from a Alaska cruise and my DH surprised me with a birthday present of a one day cruise on the Golden from Seattle to Vancouver this coming Saturday . . . I am an elite and I just wondering if anyone out there has done a one day and what to expect? [This is so weird and so fun at the same time] I booked a guaranteed mini suite and while the cruise looks booked up, we still do not have a room assignment. And by the way our Alaska cruise was in a window suite on the Grand and it was lovely!;)

Welcome to the one day cruise! As Elite on the one day you will get a bar setup, that's it- no boarding privilege. If you purchase from gift shop you will get your Elite discount. Enjoy the cruise, love one day cruises! Did you know Princess offers a transfer back to Seattle pier from Vancouver?

Can you elaborate on this? How does it work?

Years ago, we did a 1 night cruise, then a 3 night cruise. We were in suites and are Elite, so we got 4 bar set ups in a short amount of time. I don't drink, but DH was one happy camper. :D We traded out all 4 sets to the things we like but didn't think to change out a couple of the bar set-ups for something else entirely. We ended up taking home what seemed like a million little Skyy Vodkas. :D

If you own 100 shares of CCL stock, you should also be able to get a room credit for the one night cruise. Used it a few years ago on the same itinerary. Makes a a cheap cruise with the credit and mini bar set up.

Yep. You get $50 for a cruise of 6 days or less. Pretty darn good for a one day cruise!

I hadn't heard of this stockholders benefit. Would you please elaborate? Is it available for longer cruises?

If you hold 100 or more shares of CCL stock you get OBC when you book a cruise. The amount you get is per stateroom not per person. The amount depends on the length of the cruise.

14 days or longer = $250

7 - 13 days = $100

6 days or fewer = $50

When my DH and I cruised on the one day on the Golden we were upgraded at the pier from a mini to the Grand suite. Hope you have the same luck:)

The cabin would have been changed at least 24 hours prior to arrival at the pier. If you logged in it would have shown on the baggage tags/travel summary which can be accessed up to sailing day.

Cabin assignments are finalized at least 24 hours prior to the start of the cruise.

Thanks, Mike. Every time I think I know what I need to know about cruising, I learn something new on t his site.

We were all newbies on Cruise Critic at one time or another.

That's what we are here for, to help each other.

At least I think so. . . .

Mike:)

The downside of a lot of OBC is that it is hard to use on a 1 day. Typically the casino won't open because they never get into international waters. But they do refund any excess, either by making you go back to Guest Services or by check later. Also hard to use up the elite minibar (and did not have a problem taking leftovers on the next cruise).

Our family has done this a couple of times. Since you can't do this and then sail back to US, you get off the ship for a couple of days and visit Vancouver, or get off and sail south on a different ship.

You were allowed to take your mini bottles on the next cruise? I would think that would be prohibited as they don't allow passengers to bring alcohol onboard. Seems very odd that they would allow this.

Wow this is all really good information. I am upset with my TA's assistant, they offered an upgrade to owner's suite [for a small fee] and she sent an email . . to my husband . . . he didn't open his email that night and it had a time limit on it. Why couldn't she pick up the phone, we missed out. bummer!

I didn't know about the bus from pier to pier - He has a rental car planned so we can sightsee also.

Definitely going to check out the mini bar to wine or coffee card, that was awesome information!

We are on the grand for our first 1 day cruise. I heard the dining room can be crazy! Any tips on avoiding the craziness? Also where did you upgrade at the pier?

Colo Cruiser- We were flying in the day before so we did not look and personalizer 24 hours before the cruise. We had printed our luggage tags 2 day before the cruise and the up grade was not there. When we got to the pier the agent looked at the info in front of him with a funny look and asked me if I was sailing with a person named_____ (someone I did not know) I said no. He looked again and said they moved you to a different room he was looking at the deck plan and could not find the new room. Then he got this big surprised look on his face and said "They upgraded you to the grand suite"
