My husband and i have worked hard . We are now empty nesters:) We took our children when young on holidays with us always. Now as they are adults we like to cruise with them when life permits ...

But right now we are enjoying the two of us and adult conversation

Last year we went on a cruise and they did not enforce the NO KIDS in the adult zone. I have no problem cruising with kids i just want to find a cruise line to go to who enforces there rules.

Nice to lay in the sun and no" Maro Polo "

I understand your predicament, and I'm sorry, but I will be cruising with my kids, however, they will NOT be in the adults only areas. I think the problem really comes down to passenger satisfaction, in the respect of not wanting to upset the parents of said children, and risk losing tip money or future/repeat guests. I don't understand either why some people feel that rules do not apply to them in any way. If you're bringing your kids on vacation with you - fine. However, it is YOUR responsibility to keep your children under control and to not encroach on the enjoyment of others. And yes, as a parent, I believe this to be true.

Choose cruise lines that don't cater to children and there will be few to none on board.

We sailed a B2B on Windstar and there was an 18 year old with his parents. Everyone else was at least 30, most in their 50's. They don't accept bookings for under age six and have zero amenities for kids. No clubs, no menus, no booster seats, nadda.

You sound like a very responsible cruiser and respectful. I to always followed the cruise ship rules. And respected my fellow passengers. I would like to cruise with your family....

Trust me it is not that we do not want to here from children...We do not even mind sharing a table at dinner...We just would like a Adult zone to be just that...after all the nice smoking cigar lounge is just that NO KIDS.

I don't believe we have to pay the high price cruise small liners to go on to get that. We also still work and have only certain times to go...

The parents of these children will be empty nesters one day

The cruise industry has to remember the BOOMERS are filling up the ships..$$$$ We will soon all be in retirement over the next decade .

RCI has adult Solariums...no one under 16 is allowed in the pools or loungers. If there is a restaurant, they may get food, but they cannot stay..

The way I look at it...if they aren't my kids, I don't give a fig what they're doing....I ignore their little asses! You should, too!

Thanks! I realize that RCI, Carnival, Princess, NCL, Disney are all family cruise lines, and welcome children. I also realize that not everyone wants children around. When we were pre-children, we didn't want to spend much time around children then either, so I understand both sides of the arguments. I'm glad that you are able to accept children, even on a limited basis. I see way too many threads here on CC where some posters are just downright nasty about children being present on "their" cruise line. These same people obviously missed the photos of kids in the brochures and on the website, along with the mention of the children's programs available. Since they themselves are 150 years old and childless, so is everyone else, or so I would surmise. Too many people set themselves up for disappointment by booking a family oriented cruise line, and then get all upset when children are around.....well....DUH!

I have tried to teach my kids to read the rules, know the rules, and be respectful of the rules. There are kid-specific areas (kid's club, arcade, etc), family-oriented areas (mini golf, skating rink, flowrider, family pool, H2O Zone, etc), and then adult-only areas (nightclubs, Solarium, etc). My kids will also be 10, 8, and 18 months. My kids will either be with us or in the kid's club. They will not have check-out privileges. Since the youngest will be 18 months old, that will also preclude us from enjoying the Solarium, though if she's in a good mood, we may take a stroll through just to check it out, but will not stay.

I also don't tolerate my kids having temper tantrums in public places, and a screaming 1-1/2 year old gets removed from the situation. We last cruised when my son was 10 months old, so know what it takes to deal with a little one on a cruise. Have not cruised with our two daughters (the 8 and 1-1/2 year old), so this may be interesting. But, I think that a fair mix of kid's club time and family time might be a good balance. The adults AND kids need vacations. We need time to enjoy as adults, the kids need time to be kids, and everyone needs time to be a family.

of all the mainstream lines DISNEY does the best job of actually enforcing the no kids areas AND policing the public areas to keep them well behaved( NO elevator races or the like)

otherwise stick to longer cruises and times of year when parents don't cruise( just before and just after major holidays and during the school year)

We've sailed on four lines (no kids on Windstar, so three with kids) and Disney did by far the best job of keeping the kids entertained and out of the adult areas. Paul Gauguin doesn't have any adult only areas and there were two spoiled rotten brats with ignorant self-absorbed parents who were very obnoxious and disruptive.

Royal Caribbean had a large number of out of control brats with no parents to be seen. Teens vomiting in the halls after Cozumel, tweeners screwing around in the elevators (I got hit by a shoe that one kid took from another and tossed into the elevator as the doors were closing. No, we didn't give it back. That was their problem to explain to the parents.) 8-10 year olds running amok and swimming in the Solarium pool with no one telling them to leave. Not to mention the little ones who would push every button on an elevator with the parents standing their thinking it was adorable. That was one of the many reasons we'd never step foot on a RCCL ship again. The management obviously didn't care, as this went on through the entire week.

I think I would have to say the worse line was MSC.

No contro at all. And what they called the adult area kids every where.....And then they had the PAID adult area thats right just another way to get money was guarded by staff and was always empty? I really dont understand why did they not guard the otherAdult area to begin with and then you would have no kids:confused: but you did get a cold cloth n fruit on a stick:banghead:

Maybe they should charge the kids to slide and play on the cruise lines as they sail free:D just a thought maybe a twoonie , loonie, fiver a day for use

On my RCI cruise there were kids in the Solarium pool and plenty of teens on the loungers. Staff walked through many times and never said a word to them.

It's pretty hard to ignore shrieking kids, kids throwing things at you, kids hitting every button in an elevator, and kids puking in hallways. That cruise exemplified why some people should never have kids.

We had beautiful sunny skies. It was simply that the kids were breaking the rules, their parents were too self-absorbed to care, and the crew was too afraid of offending anyone to do anything about it. What these ships need to realize is that the adults trying to have some peace are offended and in many cases will take their business elsewhere.

Carnival ships have the free Serenity decks. There is no smoking and no children allowed and they mean that. Any one who lights up or those under 21 are immediately told to leave- not asked, told! The chairs, chaises, couches, etc. are all wicker with pads on them. Some Serenity decks also have hammocks, most have hot tubs and some have their own pool. This is where we spend all our time days at sea!

You have to pass a test to get a license to drive a car. But, any idiot can have a kid…

I have little tolerance for children running around unattended. I'd love to be able to grab them, escort them to the Purser's desk and have their parents have to stop whatever they are doing and come retrieve their petulant little darling...

The only thing with Carnival's Serenity, is that most of them don't have a pool. Sure hot tubs are great, but adults like to use the pool also. Just got off of the Dream, the Serenity is at the front of the ship, no pool and was empty most of the time. Most of the adults were at the aft pool, which was overrun with kids who were unsupervised or had parents that really didn't care. Kids were doing cannonballs into the hot tubs, throwing water from buckets from the hot tubs onto people in the pools--kids with swim diapers in both the hot tubs and the pools (obviously parents that don't follow the rules). It was just unreal--We thought booking the 1st week of October there would be a small number of children onboard, didn't realize the South has a Fall Break!!! There were 900 children on board:eek:. Never again will I cruise that first week of October, going back to last week in September.

I will try Carnival again as it has been years...i know we had ok luck with NCL. And if cruise staff does there job we will be great.

Like I said I do not mind kids . I just like some Adult time... When we traveled with ours we enjoyed the time letting our kids meet other travelers from around the world and have had wonderful conversations. As my Children grew up without grandparents it was great for the interaction and hearing there stories at the dinner table. There were many times our children took home with them pen pals..(yes pen pals)

I encouraged the pen. This way they exchanged post cards. But we always made sure of there politeness and manners. I believe now we sit at a table and the parents bring out the phone or tablet to entertain there kids while we are sitting ..I am not sure if this is right or wrong i am just confused as they don't speak to you or make any noise till ( this can be good) the tablet stops or the food arrives then they YELL very load when it is taken away. I know my kids went through school on comp. they are only in 20's I just think it is also important for social skills to learn to talk and to listen.

Maybe the pool area is so loud as the kids just do not have the skills to talk:confused:
