Was going to do a different line for spring break, but $340 for a balcony on a 7 day Western Caribbean? YUP #FirstCruise

PS- I just called them to make sure, and the representative said the bunk bed rooms are separate from the guarantee rooms.... game changer. Now I don't know what cruise to do...

For 329/person for a balcony, I would switch to that too... regardless if it is an obstructed view or not (which I don't think there are) :). However my cruise, the GTY balconies are 525 before taxes. I am currently at 379/person so would be a big cost addition.

what to do??? We booked just last Thursday, after taking advantage of the Past Cruiser promo.

We paid $1000 for 2, cat 4D on 6th deck on the Glory (Feb 7th)

Do we forfeit 6th deck to take a chance of any of deck 1 or 2? It is a fraction of the price, but to not know where we'd be?? And any cancellation cost for us?

AHH - why did I look into that email ???

I cant' decide what to do. Right now we are booked ES in a porthole cabin for a short 4 days cruise. I can upgrade to an OV GTY which is $50 cheaper than the porthole. I will no longer be ES and if there are more price drops I'll just kick myself. So undecided. Any thoughts?

There seems to be a bit of confusion about whether or not you can ES price match to this rate.

In MY experience Carnival has been allowing ES guests to price match to the GTY sales (not P&G or Super Saver) as long as you're willing to give up your cabin and enter the GTY pool each time. We have fluctuated back and forth (at least four times) between GTY cabins and pick your own cabins for our upcoming sailing and have been able to maintain our ES status. We were in the GTY pool on the last 12 hour sale and they assigned our cabin. We called today about the new sale and they were happy to make the adjustment and put us back in the pool again. We've already been assigned our new cabins--they're just down the hallway from our old cabins.

We were able to snag 8Ds for $480pp (including tax) and have nearly $200 in OBC for our upcoming Thanksgiving cruise.

With the scarce number of porthole cabins available, there is a great possibility that price drops will not come into effect. If you want the OV GTY, go for it, but there is the possibility that you'll get stuck under the galley. If you don't mind giving up the porthole, what is the financial difference with regards to an inside? I have to assume that it's much more than the 50 you'll get beck with the OV. With you being on a short 4 day cruise, you could spend that money on things like excursions or drinks.

I was under the impression that if you went back into the pool as a GTY, then you lost any OBC that you had, so if this is true, then how did you keep your close to 200 in OBC? And how did you keep your ES status when you first went into the pool? I was under the impression that as soon as you went into the GTY pool that you lost your ES status.

I've never heard that you lose the OBC if you go GTY. If that's the policy, than I'm not sure how that happened. This is the second time in two years that we've been able to move from a select your own to GTY and keep the ES/OBC.

The first time we went into the pool was on a 36 hour GTY sale. We were told that you only lose the ES status and ability to price match if you match to SS or P&G. We've only been matching to the short-term sales.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to have to give them a call sometime later tonight or tomorrow and look into it. If we give up our assigned 4H to go into the GTY pool, we would save 238.00 between the two of us. As long as my 150 in OBC stays as is and does not get reduced to the 20 in OBC with this promotion, it is something to consider. Otherwise, the 130 in OBC reduction would make the savings only 108.00.

I think you got lucky or someone screwed up. Check your invoice to make sure everything is as you think it is. Recently they have gotten very strict on adhering to the rules.

I'm not here to say it can't happen, as we all know of the inconsistencies throughout Carnival, and since this seems to be the case with your booking. But I wouldn't recommend that people go into doing the same thing expecting the same results. Maybe you booked before they decided to stick to the rules? Just a guess on my part. I really have no idea.

This is the response that was given to another poster on here October 11 of this year.

Finally received an email reply to my price protection request:

Thank you for contacting Carnival Cruise Lines. We received your e-mail message and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

Please note your Early Saver price protection request has been denied. The promotion requested is not applicable since it is based on a guarantee promotion, which is not combinable with the Early Saver Promotion. Carnival allows you one-time opportunity to change to a guarantee promotion and that was done on 9/9/14. based . Any future rate adjustments are strictly based on a cabin assignment only.

Please feel free to contact one of our Representatives at 1-800-438-6744 ext 70355 in the event that you have any additional questions regarding this denial. Should you wish to refer back to the terms and conditions we have provided the link http://www.carnival.com/cms/fun/earlysaver/default.aspx on exercising a price protection.

I was told in September "once ES, always ES" when I gave up my room for the 72hr sale. I imagine that if I call and raise a bit of a fuss I could get my request honored. We were however already assigned a cabin that is an upgrade to what our original room choice was, and BFF was assigned a cabin right next to us! It was also explained to us that if the price protection was honored, my original OBC would be forfeited and then given the new OBC, which was about $20 more. Not worth the fight at all to be thrown back in the GTY pool.

This does though answer the question that some have about switching from a room you've chosen to a GTY. It seems that it is a one time only allowance but is honored for ES. Had I not requested the price adjustment in Sept during the 72hr sale I'd have double the amount of OBC, but I'm still pleased with the amount I paid.

These terms are not very clear and I have seen, and heard from Carnival directly so many conflicting rules. This has been a bit frustrating but not so much to ruin my experience. It will play a factor though in any future plans to cruise and may incline me to try a different cruise line if rates are comparable. But for now I'm happy to accept the fact that I paid a fair price for a 5 day cruise and it also has taught me to read fine print carefully, ask many questions and also ask that those answers be documented for any future reference.

Hope this helps make things clear for those who have some ES questions. Not sure it has made things clear for me, but I'm not willing to split hairs on what I am expecting to be a wonderful vacation.

Got the same email regarding my last request. Also agree that if you keep calling, you may hit on the right person and they will give it to you, but it does seem it is becoming more of a point of emphasis.

My DH received an email about it. I saw it doing a mock booking. I can't get the savings being booked on casino offer and already being in. Spa balcony. I tried fir OBC but no luck. We even paid more the upgrade. Bummer I should have held out as it WOULD have been 110.00 cheaper. Oh well it will still be a great cruise.

Once ES , always ES is not so .

Took advantage of this sale on our 12/13/14 Liberty cruise .

Gave up my ES 8C balcony for a 36hr Sale Balcony Guarantee for $470 in OBC's .

Not more ES rate protection but now ES has given us over $600 in OBC's.

Does anyone know the cancellation policy for this fare? I was just talking to my PVP, who I just got, and she had to put me on hold when I asked and then came back and said the deposit was not refundable. I do not see this anywhere. It does say "Cancellation penalties apply" in the T&C but not what they are. The standard Carnival T&Cs just say that Early, Easy & Super Saver fares have non refunable deposit.

I am looking at the March 1, 2015 Liberty sailing and the total fare is only $1019. I do not really feel like risking 75% of that.

Is my PVP right?

It is $50pp nonrefundable admin charge. The rest of the deposit will be held for 2 years from date of cancellation to be used on a future cruise. It can also be transferred to someone else for $20.

Thank you so much! Is there somewhere on the Carnival site where I could find that info?
