Oh well, I will have to find my coffee at 5:30AM. Before reading this post, I was already bringing my larger coffee mug and a larger water mug. I just ask one thing, for all of the folks(small children and toddlers are excluded) who think it is cute to walk around in pajamas, please DON'T!! You are not at home. I have my standard t shirt and leggins for early morning wandering on the ship.

Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced a new enhanced room service menu which is being tested on board Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway. The new menu offers an expanded selection for breakfast in addition to a wider variety of options available on the 24 hour menu. Individual items on the menu remain available on a complimentary basis and a convenience charge will be added to each order placed. As we test and refine this new room service menu the convenience charge will be $7.95 on Norwegian Breakaway and $4.95 on board Norwegian Getaway. Room service is one of up to 29 dining options offered across the fleet, and guests continue to be able to enjoy a wide array of complimentary choices onboard 24 hours a day. During the test room service across the balance of the fleet remains unchanged.

Well, this is our first cruise coming up in two weeks. Booked last July as a celebration for our 25th anniversary. Since we have booked, all the great things we had looked forward to on our first cruise have disappeared....Blue Man Group...gone. DSC...increased. Planned dining in specialty restaurant for our celebration...cost increased by 18%, planned on Cirque, increased by 18%, planned on coffee delivered with light breakfast to enjoy on our balcony...now we have to pay extra for that too! All added we now have to spend quite a bit more than we had originally planned/budgeted for. Looks like our first cruise will now sadly, most likely, be our last. :(

Do balcony rooms not have a coffee machine??? Therefore you can still have coffee on your balcony.

One has to pay $25 for the better beach towel than the free basic one that comes with the room.

One also has to pay about $5-10 (whatever is the cost) of ice cream dessert in O'Sheenan's, a complimentary food venue. Where you also pay for drinks like beer not cover by the fare. You also pay for drinks that not include in the fare in buffet and MDR, too.

You pay about $4 for fresh sqeeze juice in the buffet. Oh, there free orange flavored water but its not same thing.

You already pay $39-40 for show at Cirque and Magic Show, where both should be offered free without the cover charge meal. Snd if you're a suite you pretty much have to tip the concierge for reserving you seats at the free shows anyway.

You have to take about X number of cruises (which means you have to had least paid the port fees and taxes) as Latidudes member to get priority tendering anyway.

I could go on and on about all the actual hidden fees no one seems to be complaining that be going on under O'Sheenan for a while but should. And these new charges are a surprise? No its not if you actually been paying attention - took an equivalent of heavy dumbbell to the face to make all of you realize how really extensive and insidious the nickel and diming has been. I've been very aware of nickel and diming, its call "I don't have to pay for the majority of the extras /fall for the ploy to enjoy my vacation.". Some of you should had open your eyes a long time if this is effecting you now since its been going on for like years.

I understand what you are saying, however, everything you said above I was aware of when I booked my cruise. I've been cruising only for a short time.....since 2010 but knew about all the above fees and always knew that room service was free. Booked all my cruises knowing that.

Now, since I've booked and paid for my last 3 cruises my DSC went from $12.00 to $12.95 on one cruise and $12.00 to $14.95 on my other two cruises. Specialty restaurants now have an 18% gratuity, room service now has a gratuity/charge.

Thing is, right or wrong, prices are going up everywhere and it is upsetting but the only way things will change is if action is taken. Even McDonald's (at least where I'm from) changed giving barbeque sauce if you asked for free. Now you can only get it if you have chicken nuggets and you are limited to one or you can pay extra for more. It used to be "complimentary". Fact of the matter is that didn't hurt their sales directly.

I can totally understand the frustration of all the cruisers affected by this and wouldn't blame them if they choose to venture to different lines.

You are so missing the point. when I booked my next 3 cruises the room service was INCLUDED they now changed their minds and want to charge you. How about when you were sick on our last cruise you said many a times how you got room service during that cruise why you changing your tune now?

Is it possible that this fee is to discourage people from having room service, which it probably will, then they'll discontinue it altogether because so few people are using it?

I doubt they'll discontinue it. But everyone complains how slow it is - If the fee reduces demand, service will be faster, and NCL will devout less crew time to it.

I actually don't mind paying extra I'm fortunate enough to make a decent enough living that I can afford to do so. I paid for the premium seats at the Cirque show and it was well worth it.

Gosh, it's hard enough now as it is to get a table in the buffet. Imagine if those who use room service all come to eat there.

I can afford lots of things due to making a decent enough living, but I know a rip off when I see one and I won't partake in it.

Thanks.

The suits are now thinking "Sh*t, we missed that one. How about a 're-stocking' fee? How about $7.95? Or let's make the coffee bags/pods part of the chargeable mini-bar?"

I hope their Armani suits shrink at the cleaners (and they still get screwed for 18% on top):p

Who said I change my tune? If was sick again, I will have weight in if ordering room service or dragging food backis the smarter option. This time, I'll have a travel mug with me which I didn't have on the last trip - the reason why I got room service in the 1st place.

And for the record, when I go on and/or plan vacations. I've alwayd anticipated if there any prices changes because you never what used to be cheap or free, winds up being expensive. That just how I rolled - if its me overly conscious, better that then caught completely off guard.

That's regional. Ours has charged for the sauce going back to the mid-80s. Probably up to the individual franchises.
