Celebrity Summit Live report 4/4/15 - First Luminae and new suite benefits sailing

If they are staying in a suite, they are just as entitled to dine in Luminae as you are. Really no different than folks who talk very loudly or have other habits you may not appreciate.

Who would you complain to...and on what basis...and what would you expect them to do?

I meant, comment here when I said "say so" and I never said they weren't entitled or shouldn't be there. If another guest is behaving badly regardless of their age, I would have no problem speaking up and telling them to their face or the maître d depending on the situation.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

Well, I can't get the darn "multi-quote" function to work, today! :(

But, this post is in regard to Jenna and Ghstudio's comments about kids in Luminae. I think that folks have gotten so used to the "adult" atmosphere in Blu, that they may have forgotten that lots of families travel in suites. So, yes, there will be kids there -- just like the MDR. The plan for our upcoming Summit cruise is to plan on dining in Luminae later in the evening -- when the little ones are (hopefully) off to dreamland.

Actually, there will likely be many more kids in Luminae than in Blu since suites can, and often do accommodate parents and children and aqua cabins are limited to only two people so you would have to book an additional cabin in aqua for a couple to bring their children to dine in Blu.

Hi Jenna

I really appreciate you taking the time to provide updates and answer questions, as we will be on the Summit in a Royal Suite in a few weeks.

I am curious if you have noticed any differences between your first week on board and your second. Are things in Luminae going smoothly and seeming more polished than last week? I'm sure there were a lot of growing pains as you were among the first to experience the new suite benefits, and there was probably some confusion at first.

I hope you are enjoying yourself immensely - thanks again for providing the updates we have all been waiting so impatiently for.

I totally agree that Jenna's review is fabulous (and so much appreciate her taking time from vacation to post), and I “second” her sentiments. In a fine dining venue – be it at sea or on land – appropriate decorum is expected from ALL guests. :)

Still $7.

Goat cheese and taste was taste and savory. Sorry, no pic. a4db9c99d462f1f184e582f0e9f07381.jpg

Ribs were good, not great.

Sorry about the pre-pic taste of the Mac and cheese

Sundae cart still there, not on the menu, though they didn't seemed thrilled that's what we asked for.

Service was more slow than relaxed.

We have noticed a difference in the two weeks in service. It could only get better after night one ;) the captain even joked to others at dinner last night about the first week being a bit rough at our expense. It really was just the first night when the restaurant filled in 15 min after muster, like top chef restaurant wars, though with the relationship they could / should have been ready.

Seriously though, they're way more comfortable now, let's hope that doesn't lead to any complacency.

Jenna - I gave some thought to a comment you had made previously about the Luminae menus were the same on your B2B cruise... it makes me wonder why the staff in Luminae don't just cycle through the 14 days of menu items across two cruise cycles. This does a number of things:

  • keeps the kitchen / waitstaff trained on all the menus available to serve the passengers.
  • keeps the cruisers on multiple (b2b) cruises happy that there is something new to look forward to.

Just an idea.

I don't know what happens if you are E+. We reached there at the end of the cruise.

They had a sheet at the Captains Club desk when we were on the Connie in February.

Elite get 30%, Elite Plus get 35% and Zenith get 70% discount off the Unlimited Internet price.

Interesting because the free Zenith package is more expensive than the unlimited package but fewer minutes........

I agree, and was hoping they would do this, but so far, no luck. Maybe once they have the first 7 perfected? We have a 15 day cruise with 7 port and 7 sea days (and embarkation day) in December. It will be interesting to see the changes after they've had time to refine Luminae and how that impacts a long cruise with foreign ports.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

I also did not know they had a Sundae cart in bistro and we go there frequently.

Although it is only another three dollar increase I think ten bucks is a little high for bistro. It would need to be dependably great for that, we have had good luck there with limited issues. But the selling point is it is a resturant.

The whole lunch thing is odd to me, Luminae was sold as a place for lunch for suites. I wonder if they are working up to lunch or going to change the promotion.

We have enjoyed lunch in Murano when offered and sometimes we like having lunch and a light or no dinner.

I think the Sundae cart is only on Summit's expanded menu but it sounds like the smaller $10 menu on other ships includes gelato instead which actually makes sense to us. Im not going to debate the relative vale if the price at $7 vs $10. I will continue to provide feedback regarding the lack of lunch.

We have a serious amount of OBC this cruise and while we know we can get it back (incidentally we haven't seen a 5% charge on the last three cruises, not sure why) we decided to get indulgent before dinner.

It will be interesting to see how the menu changes when fresh ingredients are added at the various stops, especially in Europe. I'm hoping there will be a few "ports of call" influenced items on the menus as was advertised.

We're really enjoying your photos. Thanks.

Great review/postings, Jenna. Love that you indulged in the caviar service - we have said the last couple cruises we would, but didn't get ito it. Worth it?

Thanks to you for posting so much for our entertainment, and Dee for being a good sport and going along with it :-).

Wow! :D Been reading your posts with interest about the new suite restaurant an d all that Food Porn :-)

My take away from the thread - they serve Dulce De Leche Croissants :D

That got my attention lol! But it ALL looked pretty good, if not a bit rich - but then I say that about the MDR fare, but we kept going back every night :D

Thanks for the posts and info!

We have 17-nights on our next cruise [leaving home a week today] so will report back. Not sure how usable the Internet will be on our northerly Pacific crossing so everyone may just need to wait until we return home. They menu/restaurant should have had time to bed in by the time we board because they will have just completed another 17-night cruise.

No reports yet from Millennium so we wil be boarding blind!
