sunbird21 Posted August 13, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2015 Hi all, Back again for more controversy- J/K ;) So I am now planning this cruise with four people in one balcony BD cabin, and had a question re: promotion. Prior to the fourth person joining in, we chose the shore excursion credit, as it had seemed the best option to divvy up btwn 3(three days in Bermuda, three people, no brainer). Now that we have four, I'm wondering what the best option is. Now, before anyone jumps down my throat, please read the following disclaimer: I am NOT trying to have 4 people drink unlimited off of 2!!! I am NOT trying to have 4 people drink unlimited off of 2!!! I am NOT trying to have 4 people drink unlimited off of 2!!! I apologize for the repetition, but I want to be very clear about that. Two of us are now interested in the UBP, whereas the other two are pretty lightweight/ not interested. If two of us get the promotion, can we purchase the OCCASSIONAL drink for one of the friends(like 1 or 2 a day, tops). I forget if it was NCL or Carnival that had the 10 minute limit btwn drinks. The other thought was getting the UDP, and dividing the other two's bills amongst the four of us, so that it ends up being a little more economical. Any feedback is appreciated, although again, I don't want to start a war. Thanks, Stacey
ColinIllinois Posted August 13, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) Sure, you can purchase drinks for your friends, why not? If you mean can you get your friends a couple of drinks off of your UBP for free, then no. Terms dictate no sharing. Edited August 13, 2015 by ColinIllinois
redfantum Posted August 13, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2015 I would say to have your occasional drinker friends buy their own and split the bills if you would like. That would be the "proper" thing to do.
rvsullivan Posted August 13, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 13, 2015 Yes, the two of you with the UBP can get "free" drinks for each of the two of you. For the other two, you can certainly buy them drinks, just tell the bartender that you are getting drinks for others and not on the UBP. They will sell you drinks just like anyone else. However, in this case, why bother, just let them purchase their own drinks and there will be no confusion. Enjoy your cruise.
anonmom Posted August 13, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2015 NCL has already considered that people might try this. They require everyone in the room to get the package.

Gershep Posted August 14, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2015 My husband and I had the UBP and my 20 year old son had the soda package. We signed the waiver so that he can drink beer and wine. We wanted to pay for beer buckets (they are not included in UBP) and they would not allow us to do that. Not sure if they will let you charge drinks. You can always give your friends the cash for the drinks. Your idea with the UDP sounds good. Just split the cost of the dinner for the two of them. rochelle_s Posted August 14, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 14, 2015 If realistically the biggest bang for your buck is the UBP then I think that would be your best option. Let the two remaining people purchase the drinks and at the end of the cruise divvy up the cost between everyone. With the first two passengers with the UBP taking care of the gratuities on the package themselves. Do the other two members of the cabin get the soda packages? Perhaps if they are not big drinkers they will be happy with this and there won't be that many extra alcoholic drinks purchased and costs to be shared. I'm sure you will find a way to work everything out. Have a great cruise. Rochelle
duce95 Posted August 14, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Can you choose which two people get the package at time of booking?
triptolemus Posted August 14, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 14, 2015 just tell the bartender that you are getting drinks for others and not on the UBP. In practice, what one may find when attempting this is that all drinks end up on the UBP...
3kidsncats Posted August 14, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 14, 2015 I think either idea could work -- but I think logistically, the UDP is probably easier to divvy up. It's only a few meals, and more likely to be comparable cost and quantity wise. I do think if they don't drink much, it would be more cost effective to go with the UBP. I guess it kind of comes down to what is more important, and how good is the friendship? If budgets are very tight, and the friendship is solid, go with the UBP. If the budget is less of an issue, or you just prefer to keep the hassle from causing problems with the friendship, do the UDP since it will just be easier to split the dining tab four ways than trying to keep track of who drinks what, when and is it comparable. sunbird21 Posted August 14, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted August 14, 2015 LOL 3kids.... You bring up a good point. I'm starting to remember why I usually go solo!!! Anyway I think we have a plan that will work, so here's hoping:) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
3kidsncats Posted August 14, 2015 #13 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Best of luck Sunbird. I have recent-ish experience with a friendship almost going awry because of split on an event with swag. It sounds easy and no problem at first, but the reality can be a whole different animal.
Demonyte Posted August 14, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Can you choose which two people get the package at time of booking? Yes, by putting those people as passengers 1 and 2 on the reservation.
yoolykeme Posted August 15, 2015 #15 Share Posted August 15, 2015 (edited) Like you're the first one.... Was on Getaway last week. My business partner and his wife bought UBP and all week got drinks for my date and me. I got UDP. UBP card gets you 2 drinks at a time, so 2 of them get you 4 drinks. Sometimes, he would give me his card, and he and his wife would just take her card. Even better. I also had free casino drinks, so that was cool, too. The bartenders and servers know what's up, so just carry around a bunch of singles and be generous with them. Enjoy! Rare conandrob240 Posted August 16, 2015 #16 Share Posted August 16, 2015 (edited) There will be zero issue with you getting a beer or a drink and giving it to your friend now and again. Just don't overdo it and don't do it right in front of the bartender or while seated at a meal. Edited August 16, 2015 by conandrob240
