My husband and I love to meet people. We enjoy all types of entertainment and comedy. We hear that Kevin Donahugh is a very good cruise director. Is the Splendor a good ship for us?By the way we are celebrating our 60th wedding anniversary, Thanks for any input you can give us.

We were on the splendor with my parents last January (2014). My dad was 79 and my mom was 73 at the time. They loved it. It was my dad's first cruise and he has his third scheduled for next October. I think that is one of the best parts of cruising... there is always something for everyone to do.

If I had my choice and budget wasn't an option I wouldn't be doing the Splendor or any Carnival ship at 80 unless I was traveling with younger family members. I'd be looking at a much smaller cruise line with more sedentary activities and ones where the cruise line really caters to a full package. Carnival is much more family oriented, more activity oriented, more laid back and not so much about ambiance and old-fashioned service. Azamara Club Cruises would be my personal pick even though I love traveling on Carnival with the younger element of our family.

It also depends on how much money you'd like to spend.

Azamara is much more expensive than Carnival as are the other small ship lines!

We are seniors(although not 80 yet) and we don't sail with younger family members. Actually this year we are sailing with my sister and brother in law who is 80!

We are all on Carnival and plan to have a wonderful time!

We've sailed Carnival before(not the Splendor) and have enjoyed it very much!

It is not about age at all! It is about enjoying whatevery activities the ship has to offer and enjoying visiting the ports too.

Each ship /port has something good to offer!

If you are seasoned cruisers, my vote is no.

Carnival's evening entertainment is horrible.

They do have comedy shows but they are really hit or miss. I have seen 6 of the comedy shows, I prefer to watch youtube. The room they use is tiny. Get there really early or you likely will not find a seat or you will be sitting behind a pole.

The only reason I still cruise carnival is there are several ships year round in my home port and they offer anytime dining. Otherwise, in my opinion, they have gone too far downhill for me to recommend them.

I usually go back to my room and watch tv in the evenings.

I will say, I have no problem with the food. I think it is just fine. Including the buffet, but I try not to eat at the buffet if I can help it. Just don't care for any buffet.

First of all let me congratulate you on your 60th wedding anniversary! There are people of all ages and interests on every cruise, including the Splendor. You sound like you are looking for "fun", enjoy meeting people and with that attitude, I am sure you will enjoy yourself! Have a great cruise!

Carnival provides great value to cruisers of all ages with amazing staff who genuinely care about passengers. What are your priorities? If you prefer more personalized attention and are willing to pay for it, there are other lines that may be a better match for you and your DH as you celebrate your milestone anniversary, such as Holland America, another Carnival Corporation brand. But if great value is a priority for you, you cannot go wrong with Carnival Cruise Line. Their 7+ day cruises are certainly more laid back than their shorter cruises.

Congratulations on your 60th anniversary! I wish you many more years of wedded bliss and hope you have a fantastic cruise.

My folks just celebrated their 60th this year and part of the celibration was on the Dream in June....they had a ball and we are going again in Sept. Back on. The Dream.

They enjoyed the shows, the friendly staff, the casino and the casual atmosphere. Although we haven't been on the Splendor, I would bet it is very similar.

Also, I'm guessing that if they are still ambitious enough to travel they will have a great time no matter where they are.

Enjoy your travels with them.

Well, OP is on the CCL board. I think its safe to say she has no interest in spending Azamara/Seabourn type money :)

My Mom is 74 and loves Carnival, she is a big fan of the Alchemy Bar and the Comedy Club. Age is just a number.

Our kids just gifted us with a 7 day cruise on the splendor for our 50th Anniversary. We will be doing a New England/ Canada trip. We cruised the Splendor last October to San Juan and didn't notice any difference from any of their other ships. Happy people all over. The one thing I did love was that they could close the roof over the pool if weather was iffy. Enjoy, you'll be cruising.

It leads me to believe that you are 2 very cool cats and you will enjoy your Carnival cruise. I'm sure you've tucked many a child away at night over the course of your 80+ years. Go on the Splendor and remember to say goodnight to all the "kids" when they are leaving the disco and you two are still dancing and having a great time!!!

First, CONGRATULATIONS ..

My parents celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary last February on the Conquest and had a great time... I would suggest that you go off season so that there are not too many kids around..

This was the first time my parents went just the 2 of them and I was a bit nervous.. They are 81 and 86. Not only did they have a GREAT TIME my Mom tells me that the entire Staff looked after them, made sure they were ok, said hello every time they saw them etc..

In addition, at that time, at the Welcome Aboard Show, and finding out they were celebrating their 60th on board, the CD all week long upon seeing them would say "Hey, there goes Naomi & Marty who are celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary with us, Everyone say hi to them"...

My parents said it was one of their best cruises ever... You go, have fun and enjoy...

MAZEL TOV....

There are many "young at heart" cruisers on Carnival.

There are many activities throughout the day. In the morning/afternoon you can try Bingo, trivia, art auction, shopping, the Library, gym, afternoon tea and relaxing outside on the Lido deck. Most ships have what Carnival calls the "Serenity Deck" which is a quiet outside adult only area that has more comfortable loungers.

At night you have music/dancing at various locations around the ship, Martini Tasting, Taste Bar, steakhouse, Piano Bar, Lounge Shows, Comedy Shows and the Casino.

A schedule of the next day's activities is left in your cabin each evening so you can plan your next day.

I have been on Splendor 3 times. It is a clean ship, not too big, the food is good and it has a great crew.

Give it a try. I am sure you will have a great time.

ALSO when you book

Cruises when schools are are sessions.......seem to have an older demographic to me. Even on Carnival.

Summer. Holidays. many children. Though to be honest, either we are not easily bothered or deaf........none of them have ever been an issue with us

SOMETIMES. the little ones running..........when they collide with an older person.......that is worrisome. But just keep an eye out and dodge the exuberant little darlings.

LOOK into HAL. for real.
