Two staterooms, I'm platinum she's gold but my kids are in her cabin. Help!

Hi everyone! I've tried searching and even called Carnival but still don't have a straight answer so I was hoping someone here had been in a similar situation and could help. Six of us are sailing on Sensation this coming Thursday. It will be myself and two of my four children in one cabin and another adult with my other two kids in the other cabin. I'm platinum status and she is gold. I'm trying to figure out how to manage the check in process at Port Canaveral as she isnt eligible for the priority embarkation line yet is cruising with children who are mine and not hers in her cabin. I assume I need to be present to check them in as she is not related to them. Our reservations are linked and we all share a sail and sign account. The Carnival rep I spoke to about this said their official policy only covers this situation if the other cabin has only my minor children in it, in which case they could check in priority with me. She stated we will have to try to explain the situation at the port to see how we will have to proceed with checking us all in and she agreed I will likely need to be present to check in all 4 children.

My question is, has anyone ever done this before with any success at the port? Any advice? Thanks!

Jaimie

They can ONLY do priority embarkation with you if they are listed in your cabin. SO you options are to board ahead of them and meet up once onboard, get faster to the fun for the gold room and go on together right after priority or just board all together with no priority

Thanks everyone! I figured out most viable option would be skipping priority and checking in together but my only concern was if it would be an issue as I know the sail and sign cards are usually kept in a separate area for priority check in. Would it just be a matter of the agent going to get my cards from the other location or would there be any more hassle involved for the agent we check in with? Trying to make it as seemless as possible for not only is but also the people we encounter at the port check in site.

It is a huge hassle for them to get your cards from the other areas. They not only have to close their computer for safety, find a supervisor to explain why they are leaving, explain to the other check in people why they are in the wrong area and listen to the next people harp at then for the delay.

well, then they should have some other process available to cover these types of incidents. The poster clearly cannot do it both ways or be in two places at once.

We had something similar happen to us. Part checked in Priority then went in line for the second.

If arriving at the same time I'd go to the Priority and have the others go to the regular line at the same time. When you're done join them in the regular line. They'll either still be in line or they'll wait for you (just explain the situation to the front line attendant.

I have never experienced this at the terminal. The agents have to leave to get the room keys even if it wasn't a priority boarding. Last cruise I was at window #24 and they had to walk to an area near window #6 to pick up cards. Other times, they have a runner that gathers the cards.

I check in platinum, but sometimes I book casino rate. I have had my card in the wrong place numerous times, and it has never been a hassle for the agent to go get it.

Thanks for all of the advice! Honestly my concern was just mostly about making it a smooth process for the agents at the port as well as our group of 6. My youngest child is 7 and gets pretty shy and anxious in large crowds and I know she would do better with me than she would with anyone else even though it's a very close family member she would be checking in with.

Luckily, on a friend's advice I was able to call Carnival today and get an excellent solution. We simply swapped out my oldest child with the other adult so that the other cabin has only my oldest (yet still minor) children, thus allowing them all to check in with me. The Carnival rep I spoke with didn't think the cards being in a different location would be an issue so I hope it doesn't cause too much hassle for the agents or any other guests waiting behind me. Thanks again!

With all due respect, if I was in OP's situation, I wouldn't care about what the check-in agent needed to do to make this work. It's a unique situation and they're trying to make it as easy as possible for the entire family. I'd hope the agent could understand and appreciate this.

Either way, glad they've found a solution! Have a great time!

I'm the only one in my family that is platinum. When we sail together and it's time to check in, we ask if we can all check in together in the priority area. Sometimes it is a yes and the desk agent will gather our boarding materials, sometimes it is a no. But we always board all together with the priority group first on the ship.

It used to be that anyone who's sign and sail card was linked to the Platinum member's credit card would check in with them, regardless of their VIFP status. Has that changed?

DH and I (Platinum) are sailing with my grandsons (Gold and Red) in a connecting cabin. My credit card will secure all of the sign and sail cards. It was my understanding (based on past experience) that they would sign in with us since my CC is paying for everything.

I have read where that is no longer the case because too many people put others on their credit cards to get priority boarding, then wasted the time of guest services to change to their own credit cards. As usual, the scammers ruined things for others.

The credit card loophole has been closed.
